With over one billion international trips taken every year and generating 1 in 10 jobs* , tourism is one of the biggest industries in the world and plays a key strategic role in the development of many destinations. This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive knowledge of business subjects and related skills in preparation for a career in management in a wide range of business organisations across the world.
You will gain insight into the international tourism sector where you’ll have the chance to learn the fundamentals of successful business through the lens of travel and tourism. We ‘ll look at the issues affecting tour operators, travel agencies, online retailers, accommodation providers, visitor attractions and tourist boards. During our course, you’ll discover a whole host of business activities that support the travel and tourism industries from understanding how consumers think and experience to exploring the strategic directions of the travel sectors, and investigating the environmental consequences and evolutions being tackled.
You’ll be taught by lecturers who have experience in the industry covering essential business areas such as human resources, marketing and operations. Furthermore, during your course, you’ll specialise in Events, Marketing and Human Resource Management as your interests and career aspirations develop.
Placements
You’ll have the chance to apply the principles you have learnt if you choose to go on a placement in your third year. Previous students have taken placements with Greenwich Country Club (Connecticut), Sandals (Antigua), Ovolo Group (Hong Kong), PMG Asia (Singapore), Leger Holidays, Golf Breaks, Country Club of Darien (USA), White Lodgings (USA) and Intercontinental Hotel (Bangkok).
Your future
Previous graduates from this subject area have gone on to roles such as Passenger Service Agent, Business Travel Consultant, Project Executive, Travel Advisor and Travel Agent in organisations including Swissport, Clarity Travel, PMG Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, Travel by Inspire or the Graduate Development Programme with Principal Hotels.**
