Your course

Our course has an emphasis on the practical side of computing. You’ll have the chance to gain real-world experience while you’re here with the opportunity to spend your third year working on placement in industry. The computing industry offers a variety of interesting careers, and other industries are also keen to employ qualified and skilled computing graduates. In the first year you’ll be studying alongside students doing our computer science and software engineering courses. If you find in your first year one particular area interests you more than others, and you achieve the right marks, you have the chance to transfer between courses. By keeping things flexible, we make sure you have the chance to follow your interests. You have a range of option modules to choose from, so you can tailor your studies to gain skills and expertise in the areas you want a career in.

Top-up Option

We’ll expect you to have completed at least two years of university or higher education study in a related subject. If you’re looking to boost your chances of employment or promotion by developing your knowledge and skills in computing, this course gives you the opportunity to work on your problemsolving techniques and build up some transferable skills you can take into the world of work.

We know everyone will have reached a different stage of their studies and proficiency, so we give you the chance to tailor your learning, with an option module system.

Course length:

3 years full-time 4 years inc. placement year

Entry requirements:

BBB/DMM/Merit at T Level/120. Plus GCSE Maths and English Language or Literature at grade 4/C or above

Computing MComp

Course length:

4 years full-time 5 years inc. placement year

Entry requirements:

AAB/DDD/Distinction at T Level/ 136. Plus GCSE Maths at grade 5/B or above and English Language or Literature at grade 4/C or above

Applied Computing BSc(Hons)Top-up

Course length:

1 year full-time

Entry requirements:

HND at Merit, Foundation Degree or equivalent in Computing which must include substantial programming in an object oriented programming language

Accreditation

The Computing BSc(Hons) and MComp are accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS), the Chartered Institute for the IT industry. They are also accredited for Chartered IT Professional (CITP) status, BCS’s own Chartered qualification. These courses are accredited to also partially meet the requirements for CEng status. This accreditation is reviewed on a regular basis.
