During these courses you’ll be able to build a firm foundation of knowledge and skills from modules such as biochemistry and the molecular aspects of drug action. As your studies progress, you’ll be able to choose from modules such as epidemiology and public health, immunology and infection or genomics.

During lab sessions you’ll also have the chance to gain practical experience using industry standard equipment. In your third year, you can try out your skills for real during a placement in industry or, if you choose Medical Biochemistry with Research Placement BSc(Hons), a supervised research placement. It’s all designed to help get you ready for a successful career beyond graduation.

Example modules • Biochemistry • Research Skills • Physiology • Mechanisms and Pathology of Cancer and other Chronic Diseases

Your future

Graduates from our Biological Sciences courses can consider a wide range of career options in areas such as medical research, the NHS, molecular sciences, medical genetics and counselling, pharmaceuticals, developing scientific patents, medical sales or marketing, medical writing and teaching.

Previous graduates from our courses in this subject area of Biological Sciences have gone on to work in roles such as Microbiologist at CREH Analytical Ltd, Biomedical Scientist at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, Research Assistant at Leeds Institute of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Medicine, Laboratory Analyst at ALS Environmental Ltd and Healthcare Scientist at Public Health England. ***
