Join us on 15 January 2021 Business resilience, renewal and strategy for return to growth

Dear guest, On behalf of our summit partners the Federation of Small Businesses, the Institute of Directors and Locate in Kent, Kent Business School looks forward to welcoming you to the fourth Kent and Medway Business Summit. The Summit was born from a round table discussion in 2017 with business leaders about the implications of Brexit. Those around the table called for a place where businesses, politicians, local government and academics could come together and build a roadmap for sustainable economic growth. The need for a strong direction and focus for our region has arguably never been greater which is why this summit will be one like no other. We want you to use this day to discuss, inform, influence and, above all, collaborate. We want to hear about all the good work and exciting projects that keep Kent and Medway a dynamic, innovative, diverse, forward-thinking and outward-looking place where people want to live, work, learn and visit. All event partners would like to thank headline sponsor Kreston Reeves, and sponsors British Business Bank, Southeastern Railway, Canterbury AI and Kayo Digital without whose financial support the Summit would not have been possible. Thanks also go to our official media partner KM Media Group and KMTV. Please share the day on social media, using the hashtag #KandMBusinessSummit. If you wish to receive regular updates about next year’s summit, please join the Kent and Medway Business Summit group on LinkedIn. We wish you a very constructive and enjoyable day. Prof Marian Garcia Dean, Kent Business School

British Business Bank The British Business Bank is a government-owned economic development bank. Its core mission is to make finance markets for smaller businesses work more effectively, allowing those businesses to prosper, grow and build UK economic activity. The Bank enables businesses to prosper, grow and build economic activity by providing finance at every stage of their development: • Start-ups, through the Start Up Loans Company • Scale-ups, for businesses with ambitious growth plans, usually through using equity capital • Staying ahead, for those with more modest expansion plans, usually through using debt finance We do this not by lending or investing directly with smaller businesses, but by deploying our funding and support through a range of over 100 delivery partners on a wholesale basis. These partners range from the largest banks through to small venture capital providers and innovative new players in the market, such as peer-to-peer lenders. As the Government’s centre of expertise on SME finance, we design our programmes and allocate our resources based on those insights into SME finance markets.

Southeastern Southeastern has been running the train service between London and Kent and parts of East Sussex since 2006. We operate one of the busiest networks in the country including the UK’s first and only domestic high-speed train service. At Southeastern, our teams are working hard to make sure that if you need to travel by train at the moment, you can travel with confidence. We’re cleaning trains and stations more regularly, providing hand sanitiser points at our busiest stations, and carrying out regular COVID-19 swab testing of handrails, doors and grab rails – all of which have come back negative. We’re also proud to support the local communities in our network through partnerships, sponsorships and community outreach. We collaborate with businesses, local authorities and Community Rail Partnerships across our network to find new ways to improve our service and transform lives beyond our stations.
