The University of Kentucky exists to advance Kentucky — its health, its wealth and its education. It’s our mission. It’s our calling. Fundamental to that goal is ensuring the success of students. It’s the idea of putting students first in everything that we do. The Preliminary Enrollment Report is a testament to sustained progress in educating, retaining and graduating more students than ever before.

For the first time, UK’s enrollment, according to these preliminary numbers, exceeds 36,000 students. More than a quarter of our first-year students are first-generation, and they reflect an institution committed to educating students from all walks of life and many, varied backgrounds. At the same time, based on the latest available information, six-year graduation rates are more than 71 percent,

placing the University among the top 100 public, fouryear institutions in the country. We are preparing students in ways that align with Kentucky’s needs — ready for the workforce, with the capacity for careers in a growing and complex economy and prepared for lives of meaning and purpose. This is who we are. This is what we do. We are the University of, for and with Kentucky.
