Southeast San Diego Tutoring

Southeast San Diego Tutoring offers all USD undergraduates the opportunity to earn up to six units tutoring kids at partnering K-8 and middle schools. Students register within the first 2-3 weeks of the semester (after they have set the rest of their academic/work schedules) and earn one unit for every three hours they tutor each week over the course of ten weeks, while giving back to the community, gaining internship experience to put on their resumes, and garnering professional references. Tutors set their own schedules, 3-9 hours per week, within their assigned school's daily operating hours, Monday through Friday (a very limited number of Saturday hours are available).

University of San Diego is a chapter of Global Medical Brigades, an international movement of students and medical professionals working alongside local communities and staff to implement sustainable health systems. We work in remote, rural, and under-resourced communities in Honduras, Panama, Nicaragua, and Ghana that would otherwise have limited to no access to health care. The Student Success Coaching program provides a unique opportunity for students interested in gaining practical experience in a paraprofessional counseling role. Peer coaches, also known as Student Success Coaches, hold private academic coaching appointments in the Center for Student Success each week, and work with up to 10 clients on an ongoing basis during peak academic times. Additionally, coaches are required to participate in one hour of small group supervision and one hour of large group supervision each week. Supervision is led by a licensed clinical psychologist and a practicum intern from the Center for Health and Wellness Promotion. Overall, the time commitment amounts to around six hours per week.
