Network specialists ensure constant connectivity within an organization. They set up, support, and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs) and other networking systems. They also install routers, switches, firewalls and network-related software programs. Network specialists work for a variety of employers, including information technology firms, education companies, health care organizations and more. Many entry-level network specialists start in help desk or support positions but can grow into management roles. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, job openings for network specialists are expected to increase by 20% by the year 2022, which means many new positions will be available in the near future.

University of St. Francis students are encouraged to combine practical experience with their college curriculum. Employers say they often look for students who have an internship on their resume, therefore, internships are a significant part of the USF experience. As you study, your professors will teach you about web design and to support the infrastructure it needs, but you’ll learn C++, Java, Visual Basic, and more. You’ll also get hands-on experience by attending seminars on topics from bioinformatics to human computer interaction to game programming. The University of St. Francis will be sure you are prepared for ultimate success in the working world after graduation.
