Introduction

Welcome to the University of Surrey, a world-class university dedicated to lifechanging education and research.

We deliver impactful research which changes society, locally and internationally. We put our students at the heart of all we do – always striving to exceed the expectations of every individual and community that we engage with.

Here, as part of a global community of ideas and people, you’ll achieve more than a masters; you’ll be empowered for personal and professional success.

Our graduates are exceptional and highly soughtafter: they have ‘The Surrey Advantage’ - a combination of attributes including global and cultural intelligence; digital capabilities; knowledge and skills; sustainability; employability, resilience and resourcefulness.

Through our postgraduate taught programmes, you will have the chance to learn from leading researchers and tutors and work in professional quality facilities, engaging in projects with real clients and outcomes that matter.

We are proud that the most recent (2021) Research Excellence Framework found that 89% of our research outputs rated as world-leading or internationally excellent, putting us in the top 20 in the UK for the quality of research outputs.

Surrey is now on a great new forward momentum as our students and staff continue to excel in their work and studies.

Most recently this is exemplified by our rise to 244th in QS World University Rankings 2024, the top 50 of Times Higher Education’s (THE) Impact Rankings and ranking of 13th in the Complete University Guide.

Our postgraduates benefit from a wealth of academic and personal support to help develop skills and resilience.

This involves more than labs, libraries and theory. Our focus is on developing your skills, discovering world-leading research and building your personal and professional networks. It’s both a route to career success and an enriching experience in itself.

The success of our graduates is inspiring – 95% of our masters students are employed or in further study within 15 months of graduating because with us they have built the skills they need to succeed.

Surrey’s programmes are accredited by industry bodies and taught by practitioners and academics. They are enhanced by our active links with more than 2,300 companies, plus public sector organisations and peer universities, worldwide.

All the time you’ll receive the nurturing support of a dedicated and committed team, who celebrate your success as warmly as their own.

All this takes place on our beautiful campus, set in the cosmopolitan and historical town of Guildford, 35 minutes southwest of London.

It is more than a place to study. It is a haven of opportunity, inclusivity and openness –intellectually and individually – where we create global change.

Bhavyasree Sasindra

I was immediately drawn to Surrey for lots of reasons: the fact that I could do a masters with a placement year, the University’s cutting-edge research in big data and data science, and the stunning campus that immediately felt like a second home. Being from a region in India with abundant greenery, I found Surrey the ideal blend, offering a peaceful and serene setting but close to London – one of my dream cities.

Get to Know Guildford

Guildford is a picturesque market town on the River Wey. You can walk from our Stag Hill campus to the town centre in 15 minutes to find pubs, restaurants, bars, shops, theatres and entertainment venues – there’s even a Norman castle. Outside the town you will find idyllic countryside, including the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the south.

Surrey is a global community. Over a third of our students are international, from 140 countries. We celebrate this with an exciting range of festivals, music, societies and food that reflect the different cultures on our campus.

Interacting with different cultures provides valuable enrichment and will help you prepare for the modern, globalised workforce.

If you are an international student, we are here to support your move to the UK.

Our International team will help you with everything from applying to Surrey, visa applications, living in the UK, and orientation events to help you meet other international students during your first few days on campus.

You’ll need a good standard of English to study at Surrey. If English isn’t your first language then you may need to provide evidence of your ability before studying with us.
