SpaceCraft Training Course:
A Hands-On Introduction to Space Engineering
The aim of this short course is to introduce the basics of space engineering and mission design, and to show the range of applications that spacecraft undertake.
Each day starts with classroom teaching on areas including powering spacecraft, rockets and orbits, the space environment, and controlling satellites.
There is then hands-on practical work with a focus on two projects:
Using the EyasSat, a fully functional nanosatellite designed for teaching spacecraft systems engineering
Designing and building a microcontroller-based system to measure the temperature and pressure on Mars and return images, using an Arduino kit and robot car
Students also tour Surrey Space Centre, including its ground station which communicates with satellites, and hear from early-career space professionals.
