why the University of Memphis? We’ve been around since 1912, meaning we have lots of tradition. Our campus reflects this. From the hallowed halls of Scates and the tall shadow of Wilder Tower to our brand new University Center and our impressive Living Learning Residence Complex, our history is evident everywhere you look.
Our faculty is amazing. They are Emmy, Grammy and Peabody award winners. They are acclaimed researchers, entrepreneurs, novelists, musicians and performers. Twenty-six of them hold distinguished Chairs of Excellence. We have several nationally ranked programs and five Centers of Excellence. We offer more than 250 areas of study, 17 undergraduate degrees, 55 master’s degrees and 23 doctoral degrees. Our honors program is the largest in the state.
where is the University of Memphis?
Located in the southwest corner of Tennessee, Memphis sits on the Mississippi River and borders Mississippi and Arkansas. The University’s main campus is in suburban east Memphis among sprawling neighborhoods and shopping centers. Our tree-lined campus is pedestrian friendly with all campus buildings being within easy walking distance. We are 2 hours from Little Rock, 3 hours from Nashville, 4 hours from St. Louis and Birmingham, 6 hours from Atlanta, 7 hours from Dallas and 8 hours from Chicago. In short, we are centrally located.

We accept students with strong academic preparation who have the potential for success. HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT REQUIREMENTS Like most colleges and universities, the University of Memphis requires that you take a set number of classes in certain topics in high school. You must complete these courses before you can enroll:
ENGLISH 4 units
HISTORY 2 units United States History and/or World History European History, Ancient History or Modern History
MATH 3 units Algebra I Algebra II Geometry (or an advanced course with Geometry) SCIENCE 2 units Natural or Physical Science Biology, Chemistry or Physics, with a laboratory
FOREIGN 2 units LANGUAGE (in the same language) ART 1 unit (Visual or Performing)
TOTAL 14 units
