Toy stores in recent years haven’t been as popular as they used to be, with competitors like Amazon, Target, and Walmart who offer toys at lower prices and online, toy stores have struggled to keep up. Many toy stores have found it difficult to keep up with their corporate giant competitors and as a result, most toy stores have gone out of business.
These competitors offer convenience but what they don’t offer is the experience of visiting a toy store that kids used to love in decades past. I want to create a toy store that is more than just a store but an experience for kids to interact and play in a fun and friendly environment reminiscent of vintage toy stores.
Toy Box is a one of a kind toy store that wants to bring families together to create a fun and memorable experience.
Making a brand that is easy for kids to interact with is the most important part of the design. Using organic shapes and bright colors throughout the design is something that will make the brand easily digestible for kids. Competitors often use one staple color throughout their brand but since Toy Box wants a fun atmosphere for their customers, using multiple colors would be the best to achieve that. The bright colors can also help Toy Box distinguish itself from competitors. Having a symbol that kids can easily spot and recognize will also be beneficial to the overall brand. A lot of kids at an early age cannot read as well as others and by recognizing a mascot or symbol it eases confusion for the kids.
Overall Toy Box wants to make the experience of visiting the store as memorable and easy as possible so people are inclined to come back and choose Toy Box over going to their large corporate competitors. Making the experience memorable through fun and bright design and unique experience can set Toy Box apart from the rest of the toy retailers across the country.
Toy Box uses 6 colors throughout its design. The 4 staple colors, red, yellow, green, and blue, were chosen based on their great contrast amongst eachother and the familiarity these colors would be to children interacting with the brand. The colors are used in the overall design and as individual section markers throughout the stores. The blue and the pink symbolize the kids and this is personified through the symbol of smiley faces used both in the logo and thoughout the design.

The main symbol used throughout the Toy Box branding is the two smiley faces that are also utilized in the logo as alternatives to the letter O. The smiley faces use a light pink and light blue as a way to include our audience in our brand. The faces are meant to symbolize the kids that visit the store. The faces also serve as a symbol that is easy for kids to recognize as Toy Box since most young kids have difficulty reading at this age.
