HEALTH & SAFETY UPDATES

VACCINE DISTRIBUTION APRIL 5, 2021 ANNOUNCEMENT The University of Nebraska at Omaha Office of Health Security strongly encourages all students, faculty, and staff to take advantage of COVID-19 vaccination opportunities by signing up for an appointment as soon as possible.

QUICK REMINDERS Health Measures Remain in Place Campus health measures, including wearing a mask, avoiding crowds, and physical distancing remain in place on campus regardless of any individual’s vaccination status.

Precautions for Vaccinated Individuals Vaccinated individuals should continue to wear a mask and take other precautions when gathering with unvaccinated people who are at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19.

UNO COVID Testing Center All UNO students, faculty, and staff, including those who are in quarantine or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, may be tested at the UNO COVID Testing Center.

COVID Research

PREVENT COVID U RESEARCH STUDY CAN INDIVIDUALS WHO RECEIVE A COVID-19 VACCINE STILL TRANSMIT COVID-19 TO OTHER PEOPLE? It is a question that the “Prevent COVID U” research study aims to find an answer to. UNO has been selected as one of 20 sites across the country to conduct the “Prevent COVID U” research study in collaboration with Children’s Hospital & Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC).

UNO Office of Health Security Interim Executive Director Jane Meza, Ph.D., and UNO Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D., discussed the study during a recent Maverick Minute.

VACC IN AT ION LO C AT IONS Individuals between the ages of 16-18, will need parental consent and a guardian present in order to get the vaccine. Students are encouraged to regularly monitor the Douglas County Health Department website, UNO’s Maverick COVID Response Testing Services & Vaccine Distribution web page, the Bullseye newsletter, and official UNO social media channels for the latest COVID-19 vaccination information.

Participants aged 19 through 26 years of age are needed and will be compensated for their time. UNO students are invited to participate.

CONGRATS, CLASS OF 2021!

CELEBRATING ACHIEVEMENTS

UNO is excited to celebrate May 2021 graduates with in-person commencement ceremonies held over two days May 7 and May 10. In order to prioritize the health and safety of the community, Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. will confer the degrees to candidates from all colleges during a series of de-densified in-person ceremonies. Each graduate will receive four tickets with pre-assigned seating, but all ceremonies will be streamed online so those unable to attend can watch from home. M AY C OMMENC EMEN T INF O

Students are not required to participate in the ceremony. UNO will commemorate all graduates with slides that will appear on the college graduation celebration websites.

STUDENT HONORS CONVOCATION Student Honors Convocation is an annual celebration where undergraduate and graduate students are recognized for their distinguished academic achievements and as a means to further encourage scholarship. V IE W 2021 HONOREE S

PREPARING FOR COMMENCEMENT

LAVENDER GRADUATION AND LGBTQIA2S+ HONORS Lavender Graduation and LGBTQIA2S+ Honors were held virtually on April 24. The event celebrated the achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and ally students and acknowledged their contributions to the university. READ ABOUT THE EVENT

COVID RESPONSE UNO has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation both locally and nationally. If at any point between now and the scheduled ceremonies COVID-19 trends present an increased risk for safety, we will modify our planning and update our graduates and campus community.
