Yeovil Golf Club annual awards
By Kye Harman
Trevor MacDonald Trophy Eighty-four-year-old Brian MacDonald nr was a guest at this year’s Yeovil Golf Club’s Senior Chrtistmas Lunch. His attendance was to present the Claret Jug in memory of his son’s contribution in organising the Monday competitions alongside another Yeovil stalwart, George Scott. Trevor sadly passed away in 2018 at the age of 57 following a long illness but his support for the Monday competitions remains so warmly remembered by the club’s Senior Members that it was decided to name a new trophy in his honour. The honour of being the first winner of this new trophy fell to Andy Sinclair who said, “I was so touched to receive the trophy from Brian, and I think that naming the claret jug after his son Trevor is a marvellous way of ensuring that the latter’s work for us seniors lives on in the annals of Yeovil Golf Club.” Andy was also presented with the Steve Upton Senior Golfer of the Year Bill Moulding Statuette. The climax of the presentation ceremony was the announcement of the 2021 Senior Golfer of the Year, which this year went to Steve Upton for his ongoing support for the senior friendly team matches. It was an award that caught him completely by surprise as he was busy taking photos of all the other prize winners when his name was announced. Jim Paterson received the accolade of winning the Order of Merit for the most consistent performances in senior competitions during 2021. Sadly, Colin Leach the winner of the Senior Championship was unable to attend to receive the gross championship salver.
Richard Polson winner of the nett championship salver
Richard Polson, the winner of the corresponding nett championship salver, was however there to receive his trophy and join the numerous other trophy recipients as they reflected on and celebrated their 2021 achievements.

Terrific effort from Trevis for North Dorset RFC
Bridport versus North Dorset Men
North Dorset travelled to Bridport for Saturday’s match, which began in torrential rain. Dorset attacked from the kickoff and were awarded a scrum five metres from the Bridport line, which resulted in a pushover try scored by Charlie Jobling and converted by Sam Jones 0-7. The rest of the first half flowed back and forth, the ball like a bar of soap and the ground like a skid patch, with both sides unable to score. The coach’s half-time chat must have been inspiring, coupled with a break in the rain, and Dorset scored three tries in quick succession (one from Adam Trevis and two from Robbie Sampson), all converted by Sam Jones 0-28. This rallied Bridport, and they put pressure on Dorset’s line but were held out by good defence. As the rain made an unwelcome return, Dorset finally broke out of their half, allowing Tom Ashfield to score in the corner, but Sam Jones could not convert. The final score was 0-33. An excellent result in atrocious conditions. The home crowd were in good humour, hospitable and joined in the applause for the Dorset Coaches`display of mud sliding.

East Dorset Dockers are lambs to the slaughter
North Dorset 48 – 10 East Dorset Dockers
On Saturday, January 15 North Dorset welcomed East Dorset Dockers to Slaughtergate. Both sides were probing for the first 10 minutes of the game, trying to find weak spots in their opposition until North Dorset were awarded a penalty on the halfway line. From the kick, North Dorset were fast up, claimed the ball. Following an excellent passing movement, Charlie Jobling put Jake Cannings away with a beautiful, after several side steps and a change of direction Cannings ran in under the posts. Sam Jones duly converted 7-0. Soon after North Dorset forwards drove over the Dockers line with Adam Trevis claiming the try and Sam Jones the conversion, 14-0. East Dorset rallied to score a try from a quickly taken penalty but couldn’t convert. However, the Dockers’ pressure on the Dorset line persisted, and a grubber kick through was hotly contested, won by North Dorset, who managed to touch down. This galvanised North Dorset into action, and with another forward attack on East Dorset`s line Henry Barron claimed the try, which wasn’t converted. Next, North Dorset stole a lineout, and Adam Trevis scored in the corner - again unconverted 24-5. Following this, North Dorset put together an excellent inter-passing movement leading to a try from Charlie Jobling and conversion by Sam Jones, bringing the halftime score to 31-5. The second half began with Dockers scoring an unconverted try in the corner 31-10. North Dorset immediately responded by Tom Green scoring from a quick penalty. The match at this stage became a little disjointed with several stoppages for injuries and both teams having to make changes. However, North Dorset piled on the pressure on a tiring East Dorset pack, and Sean Perry made a searing break to score a beautiful try converted by Sam Jones 43-10. The final move of the match saw Tom Ashfield score in the corner, unconverted, which brought the final score to 48-10. U14s starting the year on a high
Bridport U14s 15 - 51 North Dorset U14s
It was a game of two halves at the under 14s first match of 2022. It took the boys a little while to wake up, but they showed their proper form once they got going. The game started with an early try from Bridport, but Will Hoskins scored North Dorset's first try from their first competitive line out shortly after. By the end of the first half, the score was even, with both teams having scored three tries. Kit Dixon scored the team's second try and, after an excellent tackle from Rares Nicoara, Sam Barnes scored North Dorset's third. By the second half and playing the U14 rules for the first time, the boys were wide awake and showed Bridport what they were made of. Ben Mitchell scored the first try of the half, and to make things even better, a brilliant conversion from Sam Barnes added the two points. After a brilliant run, Sid scored the team's fifth try, and Alex Hodges supported his team by doing some intelligent runs and pushing through the Bridport defence. As Sam Barnes and Kit Dixon scored two more tries, the boys were on fire. Thanks to a superb catch from Cass Tatman, Flynn Webber scored the penultimate try. Rares sealed the victory with a brilliant run and scored the final try. Overall, the result was 15-51 to North Dorset.
