Nearly 90% of the public believe the law on assisted dying needs to change. Do you?

We invite you to come to the Lecture Hall at Mere on Saturday 12 March at 11 am to support our campaign to legalise assisted dying similar to Canada.

There is an increasing number of people supporting legalised assisted dying, but this is not reflected in the actions and motivation for change by our elected representatives“politics, scared of shadows, that has dragged its feet”. Presently, a spouse can be prosecuted for helping their loved one to end their pain and suffering by using the services provided in Switzerland. Is this right? Are you willing to help change?

You will be welcome, and hopefully you can tell me you will attend. david.mdmdwessex@gmail.com

Salisbury Hospice

Frankie Gavin will be performing at a fundraiser for Salisbury Hospice on Friday, March 4 at 29 Brown Street, Salisbury. He is generally regarded as the finest traditional Irish fiddle player of his generation. Frankie has played fiddle and flute since his teenage years. Originally influenced by the great Irish and American-Irish fiddle players such as James Morrison, he later found himself playing with stars The Rolling Stones, Stephane Grappelli and Yehudi Menuhin and for celebrity audiences including four American presidents: John Kennedy on his 1962 visit to Ireland, then Presidents Clinton, Bush and Obama. Perhaps most significantly, the name Frankie Gavin is synonymous with De Dannan, the globally renowned band he founded with Alec Finn in the mid1970s. After a short break, in the early 2000s, Frankie started a new version of the band with a young line-up. Frankie will be joined by Catherine McHugh, one of the most outstanding young accompanists and fiddle players Tickets are available from: https:// www.wegottickets.com/ event/536010 £2.50 from each ticket will be going to Salisbury Hospice.

The Gillingham Singers is a friendly, non-auditioning amateur choir that has been in existence for over 60 years. We sing choral music of many genres, rehearsing on Monday evenings and performing two or three concerts a year. For our Christmas concert in 2021 we sang the Ralph Vaughan Williams ‘Fantasia on Christmas Carols’ and a variety of local and South West based carols and part songs. The concert was very well received by our audience. Our next outing will be in Gillingham Methodist Church on April 9 at 7.30pm. We will be singing settings of Psalm 42 (Like as the Hart) by Palestrina, Herbert Howells and Mendelssohn and ‘Eternal Light’ by Howard Goodall, (the composer of the ‘Blackadder’ and ‘Vicar of Dibley’ theme tunes.) This programme encompasses music from the 16th, 18th and 20th centuries. We are actively seeking new members of all voices to swell our numbers. If you would like a chance to make new friends, sing interesting music and gain a new perspective on life after the trying times of the last couple of years then do contact us. We rehearse on Monday evenings at 7.15pm at Wyke Primary School, Deane Ave, Gillingham SP8 4SH Not all our members read music so we provide rehearsal material online for practice at home whenever possible.
