HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Town’s busy schedule Choral society on song by Lorraine Gibson Wimborne is in full celebratory mode with a long weekend planned to mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The Minster will be garlanded in flowers, art and music and shop windows festooned with bunting and majestic paraphernalia. Parking will be free throughout much of the town where the streets will be filled with folk tunes and dancing as picnic tables are lined-up on the High Street ready for a communal lunch party. Proceedings begin with a grand proclamation by the town crier on the Minster Green at 2pm on the Thursday, informing the good burghers of the weekend-long jubilations ahead. That evening, at 8.30-

8.45pm, a procession will leave the square and travel through the streets bound for the lighting of the Wimborne Beacon and a 21-gun salute from the militia about an hour later. Saturday festivities include the Wimborne Community Theatre performing live in the streets from 2pm to 3pm and the icing on the celebratory cake is on Sunday with The BIG Jubilee Lunch. Staged on the High Street (with extra picnic areas on Minster Green and Willow Walk). All are invited - so pack your cucumber sarnies and thermos, or your bruschetta and bubbly and join in the historic toasting of Her Majesty. A full programme of events will also run at the Allendale Centre throughout the weekend. Visit allendale.org for more info..

Wimborne Choral Society will celebrate with a full programme that also features music composed for royal occasions. Parry’s I Was Glad (Psalm122) and Sir William Walton’s Crown Imperial will be just some of the highlights of a concert packed with well-loved works. The concert will be held in Wimborne’s Minster on Saturday, June 25, from 7.30pm. The choir will be led by musical director Christopher

Dowie and accompanied by organist Sam Hanson. Tickets are now on sale at Square Records, High St, Wimborne, or by contacting Sophie Milhofer at milhofer @talktalk.net or 01202 603569. They are £15.00 and £12.00 U-18s £6.00 and are also available on the door. The choir raised in the region of £750 for its Ukraine Appeal and the DEF, Disasters Emergency Fund, at its last concert, in the Minster in April.
