National Consultation on Youth Employment and Volunteerism in Cambodia On 9 June 2016 in Phnom Penh, UNV Asia Pacific Regional Office with the support of United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Cambodia and in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) organized the National Consultation on Youth Employment and Volunteerism in Cambodia for the upcoming project ‘Poverty reduction among youth in Cambodia: Development of youth volunteers’ skill sets for increased employability’.
The aim of the consultation was to (1) engage main partners and stakeholders to shape and inform the development of the project document; (2) identify and engage main stakeholders for future implementation of planned activities; (3) define the main priorities of relevance to youth and (4) create an enabling platform for youth-led engagement in programme implementation. 34 participants attended the 1-day workshop, representing UNV, MoEYS, relevant line ministries, VolCam members, UNDP, ILO and other UN agency partners, private sector, academia, youth-led organizations and UNYAP members.
The workshop concentrated on three main areas: opportunities for volunteering in Cambodia; access based on gender, disability, rural youth, lower social-economic status and recognition for skills acquired through volunteerism. The workshop was opened by H.E. Tauch Choeun, MoEYS and presentation of Ms. Seija Anttonen, UNV Programme Officer in Cambodia. Participants worked in a small groups and took part in four sessions where they used SWOT analysis, Mapping exercise and World Café methodologies to address the main issues of the ‘Volunteerism and Youth Employment’ in Cambodia.
