BURSARIES
With the approval of the Office for Students (OfS), the bursaries we currently offer for students entering University in 2023/24 are:
Foundation Year Bursary
Up to £500 (cash payment)
Available to Home students on our degree courses that include a Level 3 Foundation Year, who have a means-tested household income of less than £25,000. This cash award is given in the first, Foundation Year of study. When Foundation Year students progress to Level 4, they may become eligible for the Chester Bursary.
Care Experienced Bursary
Up to £6,000 or up to £8,000 if awarded at Level 3 (pro-rata subject to level awarded at). Mixture of cash benefits, fee waiver and support towards accommodation costs (where relevant).
Available to full-time undergraduate students under the age of 25, paying a tuition fee of over £6,000, who have evidence of their care experienced status. Please email us to discuss: studentexperience@chester.ac.uk
Chester Bursary
Up to £1,500 (cash payment)
Available to eligible new full-time Level 4 Home undergraduate students (paying a tuition fee of over £6,000) and to continuing students at Level 4 whose course has included a Foundation Year, who have a means-tested household income of less than £25,000.
Chester Bursary for Part-Time Students
Up to £1,500 (cash payment)
Available to new part-time undergraduate Home students (paying a tuition fee of at least £7,000 full time equivalent), enrolled for a minimum of 40 credits at the start of Level 4, and with a means-tested household income of £25,000 or less. For part-time students, payments are made on a pro-rata basis depending on the number of credits studied each academic year.
Estranged Student Bursary
Limited numbers available. Up to £3,000 (up to £4,000 for those starting at Level 3, pro-rata if awarded at Level 5 or 6), plus support towards accommodation costs (where relevant).
Available to undergraduate students under the age of 25, paying a tuition fee of over £6,000, identified and verified by the Student Loans Company as ‘Estranged’. Contact studentexperience@chester.ac.uk for more information.
Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, Showman, Boater Bursary
Limited numbers available. Up to £4,500 (cash payment) or up to £6,000 if awarded at Level 3 (pro-rata to level awarded at).
Available to UK undergraduate students paying tuition fees of at least £6,000, who have identified as Gypsy, Roma, Traveller, Showman, Boater on their UCAS / enrolment application. Please email studentexperience@chester.ac.uk to discuss.
Carer Support Package
Limited numbers available. Up to £4,500 (cash payment) or up to £6,000 if awarded at Level 3 (pro-rata to level awarded at).
Available to UK undergraduate students paying tuition fees of at least £6,000, who have a means-tested household income of £40,000 or less and have caring responsibilities. Please email studentexperience@chester.ac.uk to discuss.
