BIOGRAPHIES

Ho-Yin Kwok is a James Sample Fellow studying with Mark Russell Smith. He is the winner of 2017-2018 Vincent C. LaGuardia, Jr. Conducting Competition and is artistic director and conductor of the Mississippi Valley Orchestra, assistant conductor of Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra (DSSO), and director of DSSO Youth Symphony. Kwok has previously served as cover conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra and conducted at Eastern Music Festival and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.

Hisham Bravo Groover is a James Sample Fellow at the University of Minnesota studying under Mark Russell Smith. Concurrently, he serves as music director/conductor of the Buffalo Community Orchestra. Previously, Hisham lived in Denver, CO, and served as associate conductor of the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra, assistant conductor of the Arapahoe Philharmonic, and assistant conductor of the Lamont Symphony Orchestra.Â

Qinqing Q. Hilkert is a James Sample Fellow and a DMA graduate assistant in orchestral conducting, studying with Mark Russell Smith. As the co-director to the U of M Campus Orchestras, she also is the contract score reader to the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Hilkert also serves as the music director of the Minhua Chorus. She previously served as the adjunct faculty to the Conducting Department and the coach to the opera productions at Shanghai Conservatory of Music and was the assistant conductor at Shanghai Opera House. Originally from Shanghai, Hilkert has studied conducting at Boston University, and holds two MMs and BAs from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and Shanghai Conservatory of Music, majors in conducting, piano performance, and sound engineering.
