BIOGRAPHIES
Seongkyeong Kim was born in Incheon, South Korea. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from Chung-Ang University; earned her Master of Music degree from the University of Minnesota, and continues as a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree, under the guidance of Professor Paul Shaw. Ms. Kim’s numerous accolades include top prizes in the Incheon Young Artist Piano Competition, JEI Piano Competition and National Music Association Piano Competition in Korea; the Thursday Musical Young Artist Competition and Kenwood Symphony Orchestra 21st Annual Masters Concerto and Aria Competition in Minnesota; and the 48th Annual William C. Byrd International Young Artist Competition in Michigan. As winner of the Concerto Competition at Chung-Ang University, Seongkyeong Kim has appeared with the Chung-Ang Symphony Orchestra at the prestigious Seoul Arts Center Concert Hall.

Mark Russell Smith is a graduate in cello performance from the Juilliard School, and of the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied conducting with Max Rudolf and Otto-Werner Mueller. He has served as director of U of M orchestral studies since 2007. In 2012, Smith spearheaded the U of M School of Music’s Britten Peace Project, with performances of Britten’s War Requiem in Europe and the U.S. Recent U of M projects include Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring (with the Joffrey Ballet), and St. Matthew Passio n with the Detmold Hochschule für Musik (Germany). He serves as music director/conductor of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, and has guest conducted the Minnesota Orchestra, Houston Symphony, and St. Louis Symphony, and others. He was named artistic director of the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies in 2012, and was director of new music projects with the SPCO. He has been music director of the Cheyenne Symphony, Springfield (MA) Symphony, and Richmond Symphony.

Ho-Yin Kwok is a James Sample Fellow studying with Mark Russell Smith. He is the winner of 2017-2018 Vincent C. LaGuardia, Jr. Conducting Competition and is artistic director and conductor of the Mississippi Valley Orchestra, assistantÂ
conductor of Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra (DSSO), and director of DSSO Youth Symphony. Kwok has previously served as cover conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra and conducted at Eastern Music Festival and the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.
