Trips*

You’ll get to present your final-year project at our COMX exhibition on campus. It’s sponsored by the Institute of Engineering (IES) and is your chance to showcase your skills to visiting industry professionals who will be talent-scouting for graduate jobs. Visit comx.glos.ac.uk for more information. Throughout the year you can also get involved in events and challenges we host on campus such as the 48-hour Webathon (where students piece together innovative web solutions from code scraps), Games Jam (where students create a game in 24 hours), various hack-a-thons and even defending against cyber security risks in real business cases.

Previous placement students have worked at companies such as GSK (GlaxoSmithKlein), Intel, BT, Rancon, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Fujitsu, GE Capital, the Ministry of Defence, Serious Fraud Office, and BAE Systems, to name a few. Recent graduates now work for Dyson, Sky, Illuma Studios, Serious Games Institute, Team17, Sumo Digital, Unity National Crime Agency and government security departments.

Previous field trips have included Gamescom in Cologne, EGX London, Comic Con London, Digital Bristol, Cyber Security expos, Raytheon’s training courses and the VR World Congress conference, where students meet and network with professionals in the industry. Students have also explored technologies’ influence and reach by testing their own inventions for assisting skiers in Bulgaria. Next year we plan to take students to Expo 2020 in Dubai – a world fair focused on opportunity, mobility and sustainability with the motto, ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.

“I developed contacts with Neon Play through my lecturer. They attended our COMX event which gave me the opportunity to showcase my work which led to going on placement and being offered a permanent job.” Tom Toye, Computer Games Programming graduate and Games Developer at Neon Play
