What to expect Once you have registered at campus reception, you will be given a tour of our amazing facilities, campus and halls of residence. Our student ambassadors will show you around, so be sure to ask any questions you have about the university and what it’s really like to live in Gloucestershire. You’ll then be introduced to our lecturers who will give you a brief overview of the course and you may have a group activity to complete – don’t panic, this is very relaxed and is an opportunity for us to get to know you and how you think. Your interview will be around 20-30 minutes, with a panel of three people. You will normally be asked eight questions and don’t forget – this is an opportunity for you to ask us questions too! You will be sent an email with important details and information about your interview. Please read this through carefully as it will include specific details of what you can expect and need to prepare for your day. If you have any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us: Tel 03330 141414 Email enquiries@glos.ac.uk Web www.glos.ac.uk

Good luck from Head of School, Lorraine Dixon At the University of Gloucestershire, we are committed to creating a ‘Culture of Care’ and helping you to achieve your leadership potential. Our ethos is to support you to ensure that, on entering your chosen profession, you know how to care for yourself, service users and fellow colleagues. Our interviews are designed to support applicants in understanding more about the requirements and demands of the course and ensure that each individual who is successful on the course has the best opportunity to achieve their potential. Interviews are a two-way process, so please ask any questions that you may have about the university or degree. Remember: • Do your research – about the industry and the university. • Reread your personal statement in your UCAS application form. On behalf of myself and my team, I’d like to wish you every success at your interview. Lorrain Dixon, Head of School, Health and Social Care

Explore our amazing facilities
Based across two stunning campuses, our students have access to the latest equipment, facilities and placements to bring learning to life and make confident practising professionals. While you’re here explore our amazing facilities and see where you could call home.
Nursing
Oxstalls campus, Gloucester Our brand new nursing facilities give you the chance to learn new skills and put them into practice, before gaining real experience on placements. Within your very own versatile clinical room you’ll learn the techniques and fundamental knowledge required to be a successful nurse in the 21st century.
Paramedic Science
Oxstalls campus, Gloucester Developed for modern paramedic practice, you’ll have access to cutting-edge technology. You’ll use ultra-realistic Lifecast body simulation manikins, to prepare you for both the emotional and physical challenges in treating patients of all ages. You’ll also have access to our simulation ambulance and we are one of only a few UK courses, to use the state-of-the-art iSimulate Realiti defibrillator and ECG simulation systems.
6 | Explore our facilities
Social Work
Francis Close Hall campus, Cheltenham Simulation centres offer students a safe space to practice their approach to challenges they will face, in a variety of mock environments with professional actors. Scenarios are set up in imitation prison cells, courtrooms and houses, where you will work as a group to debate and determine the best approach to the situation.
We are the first UK paramedic programme with a SynDaver anatomy model, allowing you to familiarise yourself with the look and feel of live human tissue and organs as you work with the most accurate and lifelike synthetic replication of the human anatomy available. Explore our facilities | 7
Current students

When I had my interview at the university, I knew that’s where I wanted to go. Seeing the passion of our lecturers and tutors, they’re there to push us and encourage us to get the best out of the course.”
8 | Culture of care
Culture of care Our team of experienced lecturers and staff will support you to care for yourself while caring for others. Make sure you chat to both staff and current students during your visit, hear first-hand about our supportive community, trips, placement opportunities and find out what it’s really like to study and live here.
Lecturers
David Hambling, Academic Course leader, Social Work Qualified social worker and producer of specialist assessments for child and family-focused social work teams.
It’s challenging supporting individuals and families in need. My students will go on to help change people’s lives for the better – how many people can say that?”
Culture of care | 9
I came to uni to get pushed out of my comfort zone and the placements have done that. The lecturers use their real experience to give us confidence out there. Charlotte Cutler, Graduate
10 | Be inspired
Be inspired Learn from industry professionals and gain invaluable experience on placements to help you succeed in your career upon graduating. Industry links and placements Every year our students complete over 3,000 work placements and internships. Our health and social care students put their practice to the test, in a range of challenging work environments throughout their degrees. You’ll develop your skills and resilience on placements in hospitals, mental health organisations, care homes and homeless charities so you can build both your medical knowledge and patient care experience. Our students have undertaken work placements with Gloucestershire Asylum Seeker and Refugee Advocacy Service (GARAS), Caring for Communities and People (CCP) and there is also an opportunity on nursing elective modules to study internationally in Sri Lanka, Thailand or Cambodia. We regularly host guest lecturers, such as experienced paramedics and leading practitioners, who draw on their professional expertise to give you an insight into what it’s really like to be on the frontline of care. You can also gain experience working with recovering addicts and ex-offenders in local prisons.
