Current Students Matt Needham, Primary Education student

My confidence has grown so much in the classroom, just from having gained so much valuable experience – although there are 30 pairs of eyes staring at me, I don’t feel intimidated because I’m well prepared.”

8 | Meet the team

Meet the team You’ll be on placement in a range of settings during your education degree, but you’ll always have our active community of experienced teachers and practitioners to support you. You’ll have access to personal tutors and mentors while on the course. The Initial Teacher Education Team comprises of staff specialising in fourteen different subjects working alongside professional services and school-based colleagues. Find out more about our close-knit community when you visit us.

Lecturers Colin Forster, Senior Lecturer in Primary Sciences

For us, it’s all about supporting students to become fantastic teachers. They arrive in September and they’re not teachers, ten months later they are.”

10 | Be inspired

Be inspired Every year our students complete over 3,000 work placements and internships. While you’re visiting us, chat to current students and find out what it’s like putting learning into practice. Our partnerships with over 400 placement schools in urban and rural settings mean you’ll have plenty of opportunities to discover which setting suits you best. A large proportion of our partner schools are graded Ofsted Good or Outstanding. Supported by working with a wide range of people, you’ll develop your skills to a high standard.

You will be making a difference to young people, supporting children with individual and diverse needs. Our aim is for you to graduate as a well-rounded primary teacher, with lots of varied experience, ready to inspire young minds.

Alongside work placements and lectures, you will develop skills through off-campus activities, exploring creative lesson planning and developing a greater understanding of the education sector. A range of additional experiences are available to you during your studies, for example, volunteering at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and with Waterstones bookshop providing storytime sessions for children.
