MANIFESTO

1. MANIFESTO

When one thing (one person) intervenes in another thing (another person), a relationship is established.

Artists connect their lives with social phenomena and create their own works. His projects are a kind of relationship between his life and social phenomenon.

SITE RESPONSE The proposal is to create a permanent space for the Liverpool Biennale foundation. Moreover, try to build a wonderful relationship between architecture, human and natural environment. The building site is located in the grand four streets area, just to the north of Prince's park with a long history and culture. Staff of the Liverpool Biennale foundation, visitors and residents will be the main users of the building. In order to coordinate with the original urban texture, the building will make full use of the site resources. In the interior of the building, the use of fragmented green space breaks the masonry concrete building space, and forms a new place where nature and architecture coexist.

SITE IMAGES

The ducie street, destroyed and abandoned, is but a piece of poison that shows the continual degradation.People in this area have been suffering from some of the social problems caused by degradation. The New Art Foundation aims to provide an active space for the people around it, where everyone can experience artworks in a variety of ways and express their creativity.

Street Culture

SITE ANALYSIS Direction of passenger flow (PRINCES AVE AND GRANBY ST)

Public Transport links There are three bus stops immediately around the site allowing for easy access to to and from the city centre and Beyond the. But there is still a need to build a bus stop specifically for the Liverpool Biennial to serve visitors. Also, a bicycle store is needed to serve local city visitors.

Direction of passenger flow (GRANBY ST and kingsley rd)

Vehicle Access The primary road in proximity of Ducie Street is Princes Avenue which is a key road connecting the site to major roads to the city centre. Granby Street is currently the only accessible route by car to site. However Kingsley Road provides potential for connecting to Ducie road via vehicle, but currenlty blocked by bollards.

SITE ANALYSIS

The remaining residents in the four streets area were furious about this, as they felt that as residents they were not respected, and their houses could be demolished at any moment. As a result, they decided to try to improve their local area so that it would look prettier and therefore less likely to be destroyed so easily. 1993 saw the establishment of the Granby Residents Association for the purpose of protesting against the demolition and to improve their streets.

Urban regeneration has become a necessary issue. Liferpool biennial foundation can use funds to build a new foundation building, including some space for community activities. This can not only attract tourists, but also inject vitality into the old streets. Therefore, it is urgent to demolish the old buildings on duice street.

ARCHITECTURAL SPACE

In the massing stage, architecture integrated with the original block. The building will improve the integrity of the block facade and create an introverted space for people to enter the Ducie street.

1. simply form the boundary by site.

2. Form the basic volume.

3. Identify the location of public and private circulation and identify public space and private space‘s location. Public area is on the top. Create courtyard with skylights in center of public area,

4. Create a green roof on the top.

5. Provide spaces with different functions.

LANDSCAPE

THREE MAIN ELEMENTS FOR STREET LANSCAPE

Initial Idea of a Street Landscape on the Ducie Street

COURTYARD

The general strategy is to build the street landscape through path. But this method can make circulation boring. So I think that using pool to change the direction of path in the place where people gather will enrich the circulation of urban landscape. Pool also builds a good public space where people gather. Curtyard is evenly distributed in the building, breaking the image of solid building. Therefore, courtyard greatly enriches the feeling of indoor space, which is different from the outdoor yard. People will shuttle through the buildings and experience the function of courtyard at random. Green space is distributed on the roof of the building and most of the square, which is also an important part of the street landscape.

MARKET Initial Idea of a Street Market on the Ducie Street

STREET MARKET ON DUCIE STREET These stalls occupy the edge of the market's usual Street position, lined up in two lines, close to the roadside, and crowded into the drainage ditch, while the sidewalks on both sides allow pedestrians to continue to pass, and the road (at least in theory) is still open. The whole area is surrounded by permanent buildings on the shopping street, which is where the market is. " "Together, these stalls create a sense of fixed location and defined space, redrawing streets in some ways, from external circulation routes to places with a strong sense of interior." I don't think street markets are traditional interior design. However, they do have closed and internal characteristics, and exist in permeability, openness and heterogeneity, which are usually associated with the street landscape. "

Plan arrangement rule Groups

The size of the building's interior space and the combination of various functions have an absolute impact on the use of the building. This table analyzes the relationship between the circulation and primary and secondary dependency of each space in detail. The whole space can be divided into two parts, working space and living space. The work space will be private and serve the foundation. Living space is not only for artists, but also an important space for community activities.

The ground floor of the building is a coherent space, and each part has an independent exit facing the middle park. Courtyard is evenly distributed in the interior space of the building, which enables people to see the green space as soon as they raise their heads, so that people can quickly extricate themselves from the visual fatigue of the building space. Curtyard is a space enclosed by glass bricks, with certain permeability, which can ensure the life of vegetation. It can also give people a unique visual experience.

The first floor of the building is mainly distributed with office space, gallery and artist residence. The two parts of the building are bridged together to build the integrity of the building. There is some office space in the bridge, which can be used when necessary. As part of the span of the bridge is more than 8m, it needs to rely on concrete structure as support.

The second floor of the building is some roof space. Green roof design is used on the roof. So, people can come to this area. This location has a good view and overlooks the whole foundation building.

Architectural space will be closely dependent on natural space to create a fully interactive space between human, architecture and nature. Brick will be used as the main material of the building facade. The space layout of double skin can reduce the distance between the natural environment and the indoor space. The office area will be closely combined with the workshop. Café on the way to collection lecture room and gallery. It can improve café Space efficiency where will become an important indoor public area. Gallery will be a relatively independent part for foundation building.

PRECEDENT STUDY1: MATERIALS AND STRUCTURE

GLASS SCREEN WALL AND COURTYARD

The facade of the building uses optical screen walls to create a bright and quiet garden in the front of the indoor space. It can effectively improve the indoor air quality and reduce the dependence of indoor space on artificial light source. The main indoor space of the whole building is behind the glass screen wall and garden, which can make people in a bright and quiet environment. The courtyard can improve the air quality inside the building and reduce the use of air conditioning. In this way, introducing the natural environment into the interior of the building can greatly reduce the carbon emissions of the building.

PRECEDENT STUDY2-URBAN PART

For the landscape, I wanted the building space to be interrupted by some resting spaces surrounded by green plants. This works well with my manifesto.
