PROLOGUE
Architecture is a way of thinking.
In my perspective, architecture in structural and material science combined with sociological and humanistic content, with strong potential and enigmatic power, remains to be an engine to assist architects in realizing the objective of erecting various constructions and living experiences on the surface of the earth that does not violate the law of physics. The University of Westminster , committed to the spirit of innovation and self-in-dependency with excellent faculty resource, wellequipped teaching facilities and the study and research about urbanization of mixed dense architectures and interdisciplinary knowledge, is the optimum selection. Therefore, with great passion and ambition for further research in architecture, expect your prestigious institute of higher education could grand the cherished opportunity for my later study on this field. Thanks!

A THREE-DIMENSIONAL YARD SPACE GENERATED BY TWO-DIMENSINAL PAINTING.
Individual work Year 3: 2020.7-2020.10
This project is an experiment in traditional Chinese painting and architecture. Two classic Chinese paintings were chosen for the project, one as a building site and the other as a figure and activity. Finally, the characters and architecture fully interact with each other, and try to use western architectural techniques to express the implication of eastern architecture.

PROBLEMS FACING CHINESE CITIES TODAY
Chinese landscape spirit and Naturalism
Currentstate ofthe city
People's imagination of the city is constantly changing with the development of society. Early cities worshipped modernity and wanted tall buildings. However, as a result, the city became overflowing and the living environment deteriorated. I would like to start from the ancient Chinese philosophy of nature and learn from Western naturalism and environmentalism, and hope that people will return to nature to think and progress.
The picture on the left is the taiyi view lake map drawn by the artist Zhang Daqian. I took this picture as an architectural site to analyze its landscape, and tried to make these environmental elements relate to the building when designing the building. Under the guidance of naturalism, it strives to create an environment suitable for users to think in nature.

The various parts of the site have different views and the form of the building responds to the site to some extent. The different heights of the buildings correspond to the different views of the site, and this spatial manipulation helps to establish a relationship between the buildings and the site. I also introduced the activities of the people in the painting into the picture so that I could also see the interaction between the activities of the people and the building.

To enrich the characters' activities, I used the lake at the venue. A boat trip is an interesting activity where guests and hosts can take a boat to the middle of the lake to communicate and eat. So I designed a boat dock in this corner of the building, which enriches the whole house and makes the whole building look like a boat on the lake. The quiet building has a tendency to move.

Nova Apartment 2025 with modular design and integration of storage Spaces
Team work Year1: 2018.6-2018.08
Team member: Yucheng Deng Kai tang
With the exploitable land resources decreasing in first-tier cities, people’s living space keeps narrowing down. However, urban residents’ overload material needs seem to crowd their living space with all kinds of items.
This project depicts a scenario where people live in the NOVA community in 2025. As a community of high-density yet high-efficiency, NOVA places all the items stored by residents in the public storage space in the building. Through interaction techniques, residents can simply complete the operation of storage or pick-up by inputting item information on the mobile terminal. Also, NOVA accepts “data” from different sources as an input terminal.
By creating a brand new architectural space and lifestyle, NOVA brings substantial changes and possibilities to people’s lives. Changes in different dimensions allow people to break the limitation of fixed space. Houses are no longer containers, they are the carriers of human behaviors.

INTER ACTION
In traditional residence, most of the net area is occupied by storage area. As people’s needs for storage space grow, their living space gets more and more crowded. There are 3 aspects to consider in order to solve this problem: (1) plentiful storage space; (2) supportive interaction techniques; (3) effective delivery techniques.
three aspects TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM:
STORE DELIVERY INTERACTION
This project combines the above three aspects: (1) at the end of the apartment corridor, there are multiple storage room and public space for users (one unit is 12m story height); (2) by applying internet interaction techniques, residents can complete the operation of storage and pick-up by simply using the mobile terminal; (3) massive mechanical arms and driving chain make the delivery from storage space to users more effective and efficient.

DESIGN CONCEPT
NET WORK
The system consists of: the bottom floor and the top floor work as the input terminal, accepting packages/items from stores, post office, express, etc. Packages/Items will reach their destination (apartments or the storage room on this floor) by vertical transit route or lateral transit route. The system can receive various items from different sources effectively and efficiently. The public space, designed with 12m story height , not only provides residents with massive storage space, but also creates shared space on every four floors to meet all kinds of needs, like library, gym, meeting room and café. A single apartment, as a terminal, can be flexibly reassigned to any positions under the same system (building) and different system (building). Like personal belongings, your residence can be carried to anywhere you move without redecorating.

Musicians make music, and the most important thing is to listen to them. So I don't want the creative space of music to be very separated from others. The rehearsal space on the top of the building sounded, and the whole room was like an activated drum, with sound and light running through it from top to bottom. The simple connection of floors by stairs cannot make the relationship between floors closer. As long as light and sound are the most efficient and fastest. When sound and light pass through each floor, each floor acts as an effector, so that the sound is changed, or attenuated, or enhanced. This makes the whole space full of rhythm, as mentioned by Kengo Kuma's architectural voice.

Remind Site
The mirror surface will generate reflection and refraction, reflecting the environment of the site, and refracting the indoor environment. The building can establish a connection with the history of the site through mirrors, and it can also reduce the distance between the environment and people. This feeling of surrealism has a total sense of religion, which coincides with the meaning of music.

CV19 caused the Liverpool Biennial to bedelayed. In response we propose a temporary, socially distanced, festival of art to be assembled in Prince’s Park, made up of bespoke pavilions for contemporary cultural creators. A temporary building will serve as an artist's pavilion. Through my study of artists' works, I have raised a sharp environmental question -- how should we treat nature ?

ZHAOZHAO
INSTALLATION
CIVILISATION PROCESSES SOCIAL STRUCTURE
In a small village near his hometown, zhaozhao collected ethnically distinctive pocket knives and made a documentary about their owners, a metaphor for the truth behind civilisation, violence and bloodshed.
Zhaozhao is from Xinjiang, a culturally uninhabited inland province. He compares himself to a refrigerator in the desert, connected to the modern world by a 100km cable.
THE IMPACT OF MODERNISATION ON VALUES
A luxury suit provokes a family discussion about materialism. zhaozhao's father writes a 10,000word essay criticising this moneyworshipping, while zhoazhao's mother makes an identical suit for very little money. It is a reflection of how fast society has developed and the sharp contrast in values between the two generations.
Social issues are discussed through the project, which itself is less about aesthetics and more about the irony of social phenomena.
So I wanted my design itself to be able to respond to a social issue.
We wanted to create more green space to improve the space quality, so we moved the trees from the vegetated birthplace to the park, which was built with a barrier layer beneath the soil at a certain depth to protect the groundwater. But in doing so, the roots of the vegetation have no way to grow further and the trees cannot grow larger. Vegetation accompanies us like a tame human pet. We expect the natural environment to be unnatural, but of course we probably don't care. Sometimes green space becomes more of a buying point to raise the price of a building. The builder doesn't really care about nature and improving the space quality, but makes nature part of the consumption. So I wanted to respond to this with my design.

There are many trees in the site, and the orientation of these trees divides the site. The trees are like boundaries.
The site, divided by vegetation, has three walkways in the same direction that people can cross freely.
Cross each tree and human movable area together to form a network of leaf-shaped areas that are available for building use.
My site is not a flat surface, it has a north-east to south-west slope, so my design may try some structural ways to protect the original terrain.

SPACE EXPERIENCE: OVERVIEW
PLAN DRAWING
On my 1st floor I wanted to create a fake natural environment, using fake vegetation and using paint to whitewash the fake natural environment and contrast it with the green of the ground. The visitor crosses the green space at ground level, goes up to the first floor and is surrounded by the white fake natural environment. This will give them a different feeling, just like zhaozhao's project.

Project: Reaserch for Structure and materiality (Team work)
2019.01-2019.07
Tutor: Richard Hay
Site: Head of the Nangou Valley, Shuiguan Great Wall of China
Team members: Yucheng Deng, Zixuan Zhang, Shiran Luo, Zhixuan Song
In this report, our group looked deep into the project by Gary Chang in Beijing. We studied the structure, material, construction process and its usability. The study was developed in the activities like online research, tutorial learning, sketch drawing, 3D model making and physical model making.
The structure is mainly made of steel and reinforced concrete to resist the weather condition of the site. These two materials make the extremely long house rigid under strong wind. The timber finish gives the house an integral and simple appearance, from inside to outside. Wooden appearance also creates a warm and harmonious look since the winter near the Great Wall could be very cold. The mass application of teak makes the house high-grade but also costs much. Finally, by focusing on one part of the whole project, we obtained a clear understanding of the house. The fundamental knowledge like steel structure and insulation for wooden house will also be very useful in our future learning.
