Space is a very vast and strange place that spans on forever for all we know, and takes a whole lot of innovation, science and technology just to take a person to the moon. A question that’s been lingering in humanity’s imagination for many decades is whether we will ever be able to reach out and explore into the farthest worlds of our solar system, glide along past our neighbouring alien star systems and beyond- into a giant cosmic soup of space dust and galaxies. It’s been in all types of science fiction stories over the years from movies to books and games, but does our united curiosity of exploring the universe stand a chance against the harsh, void environments and humanity’s limitations?
it to the star within 19,000 years. of course, that is far too long to be practical for a mission, so what are the options?
We already are exploring a large amount of the visible universe through powerful telescopes on both Earth and in orbit. The Hubble telescope, providing us with stunning pictures of a wide range of deep space objects such as far away galaxies and nebulae and Mars Rovers have been sampling the planet’s surface for years, but, if we’re going to venture out further, technology will have to advance further as well.
There are many theoretical propulsion engines or ideas include the use of nuclear power, wormholes or warping space around the craft. But finding a way of travelling faster than the speed of light shows biological implications of how much force the human body can take- if we could travel at such speeds, we would need to slowly work up to top speed so that it would be suitable for living comfortably. But travelling faster would cause more problems, as according to the theory of relativity, time would slow down onboard the ship, meaning travelling a few years at light speed and returning back home to see that many more years would have passed for those on Earth. There are also ideas of how to preserve the human body to live past an expected lifetime, and this is seen in fiction as ‘hyper sleep’ but this idea has largely remained untouched and it stays in the world of fiction. All of these problems are telling that there is a lot of work to be done before we see other stars, but that doesn’t mean we cant visit other planets!
The nearest star from ours is Alpha Centauri A at 4.24 light years away from Earth and would take 81,000 years to travel to at a speed of 56,000km/h, which is achievable with current propulsion technologyso it’s safe to say that we will not be travelling interstellar any time soon. As demonstrated by Helios, using the suns gravity to slingshot the craft at a speed of 240,000, we could make
Getting people to the moon was a big step in human history, but if you weren’t around to see the lunar landing, don’t be disappointed, because NASA has released a plan to get humanity to Mars by 2033! Back in March 21st , the U.S President gave NASA a mandate of only sixteen years to complete the mission and a week later the space agency released the plans to do it within five phases.
Sense | Ecstasy Issue Page 8
Phase 0: This is the phase they are in now and it includes research and testing to learn more about the challenges they might face along the way. These tests will utilise the International Space Station and the mission will move on to phase 1 when all research, testing and demos are completed. Phase 1: From 2018-2025, NASA will launch six rockets that will carry components for the new Deep Space Gateway that will be built near the moon and serve as a stop for astronauts travelling between Earth and Mars. Phase 2: The Deep Space Transport tube will be launched to the Deep Space Gateway in 2027 and then later, astronauts will live in the tube for over four-hundred days before it is restocked with supplies and the Mars crew are send to the station.
With this big plan in place, it’s not hard to imagine this as the first step to creating permanent bases of human settlements on the surface of Mars and other places in our solar system.
Phase 4: This will see the Mars crew travelling and landing on mars within the expected time of 2033. And of course, the Space Race is on again as both SpaceX and Boeing have stepped up their competition to beat NASA to it.

A n oasis of indulgence dazzling ın the desert, Vegas’ seduction is unrivaled. The Strip shimmers hypnotically,
promising excitement, entertainment, fortune and fame. Seeing is believing. Dining The volume and concentration of the Strip’s celebrity chefs, hatted fine-dining restaurants and America’s favorite food franchises is hard to fathom: it’s impossible to sample them all, in terms of time taken to savor the spectrum of flavors and the depth of the average visitor’s wallet. If you’re a foodie on a pilgrimage, we suggest you do your research and narrow your selection before you arrive, lest you be overwhelmed by the scope of what’s on offer, or unable to secure a reservation in the short duration of your stay. Make sure to save room for dessert! Entertainment There are few places outside London, Tokyo and New York where you’re this spoiled for choice when it comes to A-list entertainers and big-budget stage shows. Seasonal casino residencies by the megastars of the music world range from the likes of Celine Dion (still going strong), stage shows. Nature Almighty In this 24/7 city where it’s possible to spend your entire visit within labyrinthine indoor worlds where artificial lighting mimics day’s passing into night, many visitors won’t wander far from their expensive accommodations, lavish pool bar, mesmerizing casino floor, or even come off the dance floor for air. The wise and well-informed, however, (that’s you!) will venture off the Strip to experience the spectacular scenic beauty surrounding Las Vegas (‘The Meadows’). Forged by tectonics, carved by the wind and sun baked, vast canyons and playa, epic mountains and alpine forests beckon you trade humanity’s distractions for nature’s warm embrace. The Fremont Street Experience The Fremont Street Experience (FSE) is a pedestrian mall and attraction in Downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. The FSE occupies the westernmost five blocks of Fremont Street, including the area known for years as “Glitter Gulch,” and portions of some other adjacent streets. While Las Vegas is known for never turning the outside casino lights off, each show begins by turning off the lights on all of the buildings, including the casinos, under the canopy. Before each show, one bidirectional street that crosses the Experience is blocked off for safety reasons. Concerts, usually free, are also held on three stages. The venue has become a major tourist attraction for downtown Las Vegas, and is also the location of the SlotZilla zip line attraction and the city’s annual New Year’s Eve party, complete with fireworks on the display screen.

The Ecstasy Of Alone
Humans come pre-loaded with an instict that tells us to stick together. From day one we know that to survive and get through life, we need to have others around us. Whether it be for help, guidance or safety; we need others. But for some reason, a few of us come into this world with the drive for solidarity. I am one of those weird people who every now and then need to be alone to reset. Some people may feel the need to go on a holiday once a year, or every second year, or maybe even five years. I would probably have gone insane by now if that was my only option. 4 weeks. after 4 weeks I start to snap. I get mad, short tempered, stressed and anxious.
Sense | Ecstasy Issue Page 16
To reset myself I need to get away from everyone and everything. There’s something about the forest that makes me feel at home. The sound of the wind in the trees, the feeling of dust and dirt on my skin, the lack of human sounds. No cars, helicopters or planes. No talking, no phone alerts, no emails. Nothing to distract me. Being able to stop and not think abnout anything really clears my mind. I am able to process things that may be troubling me far easier than if I were to be cooped up in my loft. The sound and feel of running water has to be the best anxiety medication i have come across.
Even using my time out for something a bit more full on such as a camping trip really helps me relax. Having both something and somwhere to really let my mind stop for a moment is my ecstasy. Not having others around is a big help for me. I know, I probably come across as a bit of a dick for saying that, but its the truth. Not having to listen to someone else’s complaints or even their orders is perfect. Having my downtime from human interaction resets
my brain. More often than not it is others that really get me all worked up in the first place. Theres also something about the colours of nature that help calm me down. There is no vibrancy or bright colour. There’s no companies trying to catch my attention and sell me their products. The soft tones of greens and browns let me wind down. The feeling of aloness really helps me keep my mind off things. it sounds crazy but
that feeling of being watched is always there. By having that running through my mind whilst out in the middle of nowhere on my own keeps everything else out of my head. It keeps my thoughts clear and precise. Sound is a big help for me too. Not having to worry about the constant road noise from cars and trucks is amazing. Completely zoning out

The ecstasy surrounding film media
Sense | Ecstasy Issue Page 22
Once apon a time, it was all but standard to take memorable photos with a physical film format. The baby’s first steps, the daughters graduation, the brothers wedding, all entrusted in film. This worked near flawlessly. Cameras almost always got the right shot. The right lighting, the right focus and the right shutter speed. Everything seemed to just work.
Coming into the new millenium, people were pushing the boundaries of electronics and digital media. With all the rapid advancements, the technology that was once sci-fi had trickled down to a consumer level. We suddenly had access to digital cameras at home. Take a high quality shot, take out a little card, import into your computer, print it off. Incredible. Far cheaper and faster than film media with better quality. Withing just a few years, film was on a rapid decilne. The way in which people took to the digital form was like no other. Everyone loved it because it was simple and easy to use. Everyone had the ability to not only own a digital camera, but had the knowldge to make it work. Move forward to 2014 and something strange started to happen. After well over a decade of digital domitatinng the photography market, film had taken quite the comback. Not in the sense that it was a niche practice for the hobbyist or professional, it was major league. People wanted the feeling of that truely physical photograph, from beginning to end. It had the texture, it had the look, it would last forever.
Sense | Ecstasy Issue Page 23
“
Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still
“
The digital wave of photography was definitely a huge step forward. It brought millions of people into the hobby. It allowed so many memorable photos to be taken and distributed with ease. But it had one major flaw. It was just as easy to delete a photo as it was to take it. In todays age with smartphones, this is more prevelant than ever. People take thousands of photos every year. Eventually ones phone fills up and they delete all their photos. These could be anything from photos of their pets to their childs first steps. This is exactly why film has made such a big comeback. The leading format being instant photos. People are able to take a photo and have it developed within minutes. This cuts out the developing process from a studio, thus less effort. But with these photos, you cant accidentally delete them. They will be around forever.
Sense | Ecstasy Issue Page 24
So what is it exactly that makes the film format so desirable apart from its immortality? Shoot from a smartphone and a DSLR, put the photos next to one another. Best of luck picking which photo came from which camera. Shoot from a Holga 120, then shoot from a Minolta. The difference is huge. Both can produce an incrdbile photograph, but each photo holds a different personality. This varience in photographs is what makes film such an interesting format. Sure, for some areas this varience is completely inacceptable, such as portraits. But for a more artistic approach to the craft, it can be very helpful. The granular look to these photos makes them near timeless. Because this format has been around for over a century, it can be hard to even tell when some images were taken. For example, with the right subject and right camera, you take take a photo today that looks as if its straight out of 1910! This is one of the ecstasys of film photography. Being able to achieve this aged and almost timeless look without any digital editing.
Why do I find the whole concept of film to estatic? It’s the whole analogue process. The light comes int through the glass camera lense. The metal and material shutter opens up rapidly. The Film is exposed for only a tiny slice of time. The light hits the film and leaves its mark. Then you need the right chemicals to have the film processed. This all takes time. Everyting is physical and hands on. This is what makes it special. Having that anxiety and thought into making every shot count really brings out the best of my abilities. I only have one, maybe two goes at a shot. Film is pretty pricey nowadays, its not something you want to stuff up. having this in the back of my mind makes every session out with a film camera such a journey. Each photo really does tell a true story.

Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse and Seal Rocks Follow the main road (Kinka Road) beside the beach and up the hill to a car park with boards explaining the geology of the area and the history of the lighthouse. From the car park it is a short walk to the lighthouse and lookout. Just before the lighthouse, to the north of the path, there is a spectacular sea cavern where the ocean surges through a tunnel it has carved at the base of a rock wall. The lighthouse, constructed of rendered brick, was built in 1875 at a cost of £8,500.

It is elevated 79 metres above sea level, stands 15 metres high, and can be seen 25 nautical miles out to sea. It was originally planned as a lighthouse on the rocks but the difficulty led to it being placed on the mainland. It was automated and de-manned in 1987 and today all three lighthouse keeper’s cottages - the Headkeeper’s Cottage, the Assistant Keeper’s Cottage (South) and the Assistant Keeper’s Cottage (North) are available for holiday let. Slightly cloudy at first sight. Honey Comb in colour and a full burst honey comb taste, full flavour, very strong on the first sip but your taste buds will adjust quickly to enjoy a beer not seen or enjoyed anywhere else but Belgium. This beer is decepitively strong.
Brewed by Van Eecke Group
Wit Beer 5%
Wit meaning white, often mistaken as wheat because this type of beer is brewed 50% wheat grain. A lovely citrus back taste, corriander is added to the process, and a slice of lemon or orange won’t hurt on a hot summers day. The brewery in Watou is meters away from the border with France. Cloudy as should be. This is a refreshing beer.

The other base a Red Beer.Put the two togther and dark clour beer pours from the bootle, expectations are aheavy hppy beer, but lighty fruity and sour hits the pallet, then followed by a sweet almost fuit taste. Even the most ardent beer hater’s will be turned by this beer.

Tradition was that your left shoes taken as secuirty, put into a basket attched to a pully and lifted to the roof. Return the glass and your shoe is also returned. Historically glasses like this were developed to pass up to drivers of coaches, like the yard glass. The driver would take refreshment while staying in control of the horses.A darkish beer, sweetish ansd strong to taste. Glasses can be bought in your local tourist shop very cheaply, so no need to ‘glass lift’.

Brugge tripel, triple because of the brewing process. In Belgium, its not about just adding more sugar to increase the alcohol in the beer. To the Beligian’s taste and quality is upmost. This beer goes through three brewing processes to gain alcohol and retain the quality expected by locals. This beer is smooth, full body taste, esay to drink and very dangerous if not kept tabs on. Highly recommended.

Cherry !! What real fruit?? Beer is not made with fruit! This one is, Belgians love fruit beer. Tart, not bitter or sour, but very refreshing. Q People see you as a monarchist on your stand to the Australian Republic, How do you see yourself ? N Normally in the mirror. hahha ‌ Why do they think I am a supporter of the Monarchy just because at this point of time I do not support a Republic move.
Sense | Ecstasy Issue Page 33
S
Well if you’re not in favour of the Republic Movement and support the present system, does that not mean you are supporting the Monarchy ?
N
I don’t believe it’s that simple. It’s not the Queen, its
about supporting what is a very safe and fair system this country has in governing , for me, it has nothing to do with Queen Elizabeth.
S
QE2 is the head of our government, do you not feel to have a foreigner in charge is not in our favour
N
Hmmm… interesting point, firstly in Her position of
Head of State, Queen Elizabeth is Queen of Australia, not the United Kingdom, in this case.
S
But… She’s the same person!
N Yes, but her role is very different as Australia’s head of government, she will be dealing with only
issues with
an Australian constitutional problem.
S
I don’t see the difference??
N
Queen Elizabeth’s role is to protect the integrity of
the Australian constitution. As Queen of Australia, it is Her duty not to allow foreign governments to meddle in our domestic affairs. Her role is not to meddle in domestic affairs. The role is to be a final check and balance of the introduction of new or amended law or legislation. Queen Elizabeth takes advice from an Australian Governor General and an Australian Executive committee.
S
Ok, not sure about that but…
N
Give me an example of a political system that is as
simple - yet effective as our current system...
S
Well I don’t really know much about any other system, the American seems to be in terrible decline...
N
Yes corruption is rife in the most democratic coun-
try…here you have a nation supposedly by the people for the people being held to ransom by an
organisation
such as the NRA. What about the French... Italian... any idea how that works... they have a Prime Minster as well as President... do you know much about their systems ?
S
No, it all seems somewhat confusing and long winded, especially in the last French election…
N
And lets not bring up Trump’s election.
S
Okay, so how do explain the Whitlam scenario…

affection and respect for the man he wasn’t wrong in his vision. How much time do we have ? I could talk quite a bit because it’s not that simple. However, what happened to
The Whitlam Government is the system working as it
should. The Whitlam Government was in crisis by its near end in power. When Gough first took office, he was redescent about
forming a cabinet. Gough was willing to lead
with himself and Lance Barnard as deputy. That is riding the line of dictatorship if he was permitted to carry on. His cabinet, later ran riot, Lionel Murphy raiding Asio’s office with midnight raids, Jim Cairns having affairs on the lawns of Government House in Sydney as well as his participation in activist protest. Inflation was starting to run out of hand and in Goughs second term his leadership was being conducted from overseas, as he spent more time outside the country than in.
S
Gough Whitlam’was sacked by the Govenor general after he was basically blackmailed by malcolm Fraser and holding back on the budget. That is why the Labor Government had to go out andtry and borrow money.
N
You can’t corner stone your argument on The Whitlam
Government sacking. The Labor Government sort funds for overseas because they wanted to buy petrochemical and mining comapnies and put them in public hands. Gough belived the people of Australia should have control of the natural resources. Thats the loans affair and it was a big

mess of inapprpriate actions by the ministers involved.
S
But Malcolm Fraser held back the budget, the public workers werer on the verge of not being paid.
N
There is truth in that, however Malcolm Fraser was in
constant talks with the Labor Government requesting they slow down the amount of legislation being put forward, to slow spending, to look at the members of the Labor Government actions and start to attend to the ecconomy that was going out of control. Now its not that simple and I believe there was alot of ploticing going on, as happens now, but overall Listen, let me ask you a question…what makes you think we are not independent and free now…if that’s what you feel a republic offers?
S
We have a foreign monarchy as our head of government. We have a foreign government who can meddle in our affairs?
N
Look, The Queen is representative of Australia, not
England. It’s like your mum is separated and lives overseas. Her Majesty does not wake up in the morning and say, “what can we do to mess things up”..

The Uk had to administer a colony back then, but it could’nt rule, that had to be done locally. There is a history of conventions and parliamentary acts transferring self-determination to the colonies. I’m not just talking about Australia but colonies such as Canada, Sth Africa and New Zealand. Look, see it as a family, our brother and sister colonies took the changes as they came, they moved out of home early. We didn’t, we hung onto the apron strings as its been called. Our changes have been in slower motion, different, which is why we have a different outlook. We are morphing to that pinnacle, there is no doubt about it. I’m not against a republic, it’s just I see it that we are pretty much, already there. This is not as simple as voting yes. Do you understand our make up as a contsitution, The States have more power and they have their own constitutions and Governor Generals. You can’t have a Federal Government as a republic style government and state system still working with the Westminster System. The whole structure of governing the nation has changes to be made. Don’t take that lightly !!! Just a trivia note, do you realise the NSW Government is the second longest existing democratic government in the world. Its worked pretty well so far. S Thank you – you have me thinking. N No thank you, look I’m glad I got you thinking, I’m not trying to change your mind but get you thinking before you allow emotions are allowed to direct your vote before you actually look as to what will happen with your decision. Have a look at the Republic internet site... not a lot there to give you a chance to give you balance. They have - join or donate, not a lot else. It was an experinece working at the airport ,Sydney Kingsford Smith. Living and travelling from the Central Coast meant a wait at Central Station at four AM for a connection. A cafe opened just minutes before my arrivial and a line of desperado’s was already in place. OMG Life saving both in summer and winter, THAT coffee made it all worthwhile and I just wanted to have another. So what do you know about coffee ? Its not a bean but a seed; dried, then roatsed, grounded and put under pressure to squeeze a dark liquid. Some think it best to keep in the fridge, some in the freezer. Most experts say to keep the coffee at the back of the cupboard and out of direct sunlight to keep it’s freshness and taste. Did you know coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world; crude oil number 1. Its the second most popular drink in the world; water is number 1. Acording to Yaron Asher, keeping coffee at its peak ; nothing will work. He serached the world for the ultimate coffee. In a TED talk I viewed last night, its not about whether it’s Italian or Brazilian or how the coffee is kept in airtight containers out of sight of the sun. Yaron says that fresh roasted coffee is a living and vitality packed food and no matter the packaging will die within 7 days of roasting. Apparently it dosen’t matter whether is vacuum pack or deep frozen with nitrogen, it will die. The figures given is that 95% of the coffee we drink is 100% dead coffee. Passionate and devoted to spreading the word of FRESH coffee, Yaron now lives in Bali and has a rainforest farm. He travels the world giving lectures on the benefits of fresh roasted coffee, which include higher amounts of anti oxiants. Some studies, Yaron points out, that people who consume coffee live longer. Its an interesting talk, but surprise surprise there is a catch, he produce’s coffee roasters and uses this talk to help sell theproduct. Is he selling out ?,, no not my belief, a person has a right to make a living and he is selling them far lower in price than the commercial products. Yearon does point out an interesting point, that if coffee has its best benfits within a 24 hours period and dies after 7 days, why are all the lab test using coffee that has been ‘dead’ for ages. There is a problem, where do you buy raw coffee beans???
