Care for Your Entire

by Amy Sharp

N

o one understands the importance of convenient care that’s top-notch as much as a mom. Imagine a dentist office that takes care of everything for your entire family? That’s just what Jasmine Naderi, D.D.S. has created at Best Dental. Dr. Naderi’s story starts in nearby Cypress, where she grew up wanting to be a medical doctor. She says, “I was at the University of Houston doing my undergrad, and I was volunteering at a hospital. I just didn’t like it. When I visited my longtime dentist, I explained all of this to him. I wondered what I could do with all the sciences I had already taken. My dentist was like an uncle to me, and he took me to visit the dental school where he taught. I started volunteering there, and realized it was exactly what I wanted to do.” Dr. Naderi finished her undergrad as a dental major and when on to graduate from the University of Texas Dental Branch in 2002. For more than 16 years, Dr. Naderi has practiced dentistry in Sugar Land. This year, on her birthday, Dr. Naderi opened her own practice on the Grand Parkway at Bellaire in Richmond. General dentistry, braces and aesthetics are all in the realm of what Dr. Naderi takes care of at Best Dental. Her brother, Sanjar Naderi D.D.S, completes the practice with surgical care—including wisdom teeth, implants and root canals. Dr. Naderi says, “I wanted to create a practice that takes care of everything for a family. I know how difficult it can be to run multiple places for dental treatment. Here at Best Dental, I can see and treat the entire family—all ages. For surgical needs, we have a surgical room in the office. We take 2 ~ UPCLOSE Katy ~ May-June 2019

care of as much as we can, only referring out when a specialist is required.” When she’s not helping clients with their smiles, Dr. Naderi stays busy keeping up with her two boys. Both Kameron and Joseph play basketball for Austin High School. She is also very involved with Hope City Church, and a member of a local Women for Women networking community where independent business women support each other. Dr. Naderi plans to stay in this area for a long time. “I moved here when there were a lot of corn fields around! I love how this area has grown, and everything is close by. Before living here, I did not know that neighbors could be friends. I love the people, the sense of community, and the schools. My kids are very happy here!” To schedule an appointment with Dr. Naderi, visit www.bestdentistinhouston.com or call 281-343-3011. ommunities thrive when its members work together. A perfect example? Classic Chevy Sugar Land and Fort Bend Women’s Center. Fort Bend Women’s Center is the only dedicated domestic violence and sexual assault emergency shelter and crisis hotline in Fort Bend County. In addition to crisis intervention services, it’s also the largest regional provider of non-residential services such as counseling, case management, advocacy and other support services for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. For many years, Classic Chevy Sugar Land has been a key player in supporting Fort Bend Women’s Center. “We are thrilled to have Classic Chevy Sugar Land as our friend,” says CEO Vita Goodell. “They support Fort Bend Women’s Center in so many ways! For the past several years, we have been honored to have Classic Chevy Sugar Land as the Presenting Sponsor for our largest fundraiser: Boogie. And this year, Classic Chevy Sugar Land owners Jeff and Tiffany Sebastian also served as honorary chairs for Boogie.” Fort Bend Women’s Center has also turned to Classic Chevy Sugar Land for vehicles. “We have a need for vans and trucks,” says Vita. “These trucks are box trucks. We use them to pick up donations of furniture and larger items.

On Thursdays you can purchase a thrifting bag for $3 and take home everything you can fit into the bag for 50% off! These trucks are not necessarily in the scope of what Classic Chevy Sugar Land typically carries. But each time we have gone to them in search of a new vehicle, they have found it for us and given Fort Bend Women’s Center a fantastic deal.” Items donated go directly to clients of Fort Bend Women’s Center or are sold in their Pennywise Resale Shops. Pennywise Chief Retail Operations Officer Joy Dowell says, “We are thrifting and resale at its best. I encourage you to check out our stores. On Thursdays you can purchase a thrifting bag for $3 and take home everything you can fit into the bag for 50% off!” Classic Chevy Sugar Land owner Tiffany Sebastian says, “We are very proud to be friends of Fort Bend Women’s Center. I encourage each of you to learn more about them and see how you can help members of our community in great need.” “A huge ‘Thank you’ to Tiffany, Jeff and Classic Chevy Sugar Land for their continued support in bringing ‘Healing & Hope’ to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault,” adds Vita. “We really couldn’t do it without you. It’s so nice to know we have businesses of such great integrity right here in Fort Bend County.”

DENTAL Health: Pro Tips for Parents

Does Your Child Need a Mouthguard For Sports? by Olivia Cane

A

mouthguard is a removable device used to protect your child’s mouth in the event of impact. Like a lot of parents, you may think that only kids who play contact sports like football or basketball need one. But even for non-contact sports, such as gymnastics, mountain biking or skateboarding, a mouthguard is considered an essential piece of safety equipment. “The younger the child is when he or she starts wearing a mouthguard, the easier it is to get them in the habit,” says Dr. Faisal M. Khan at Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental. “Not only will a mouthguard limit the risk of mouth-related injuries to the teeth, lips, and tongue, it can greatly reduce the severity of a concussion. There is growing concern about the long-term effects of concussions on young athletes, so getting out ahead of the risk now is a good thing.” One of the most commonly asked questions Dr. Khan receives from parents is whether their child can wear a mouthguard if he or she already has braces. “Absolutely,” says Dr. Khan. “The best way to protect orthodontic brackets is a professionally fitted mouthguard. The only thing I would caution against is wearing a retainer with one. But braces are no problem.” Fortunately, Dr. Khan and his staff love to make mouthguards for young athletes! “First, we take an impression of your teeth. Then, a mouthguard is created that fits perfectly over that mold, which is important from both a safety and comfort standpoint. Most of the time mouthguards cover only the upper teeth, but we can make one for the lower teeth too, which is a good idea if your child wears braces. A

custom-made mouthguard won’t restrict breathing or make speaking difficult, and they’re easy to clean.” “I highly recommend getting a professionally made mouthguard for your child. That saying about ‘an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure’ goes twice when it comes to protecting kids. Plus, we go out of our way to make every visit to our office something fun to look forward to. Making your child smile is the best part of our day!” Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental Faisal M. A Champion for Busy, Stressed-Out Moms by Marie Page

A

s a working professional with five kids, primary care physician and owner of Balanced Body Functional Medicine, Dr. Julia Ward knows what it feels like to be overwhelmed with fatigue, stress and other changes that happen with age. She says, “I’ve been practicing medicine for over 25 years. As my life became busier and more demanding, I recognized that stress, chronic fatigue and hormone imbalances are all interconnected. That’s when I turned to functional medicine, a more holistic approach to health that looks for the root causes of symptoms instead of just treating them with a prescription.” Today, Dr. Ward has brought balance to her own health as well as those of hundreds of her patients. “We often work with busy moms whose kids are either leaving the home or who have left the home. They’re accustomed to sacrificing their own needs for their children and family. Now they can invest in themselves...but they don’t look or feel the way they used to.” Many of Dr. Ward’s patients have experienced an increase in weight. It’s crept on over the years, and they just can’t lose it the way they could 10 years ago. Dr. Ward says, “The increased weight is a huge problem in and of itself because it can affect self esteem. You don’t feel good about yourself, and possibly have no interest in sex. Maybe it even hurts to have sex.” Other patients are experiencing depression, anxiety, brain fog, mood swings, hot flashes or night sweats. “Women often tell me, ‘I can’t even get a good night’s sleep because I wake up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat.’” The cost of not addressing and fixing these issues can be high, including deteriorating relationships, difficulty thinking, lower self esteem, and generally feeling “not normal.” But it doesn’t have to be this way. “You’re not stuck with the body that you are in right now!” says Dr. Ward. “I’m a testament to this. Here at Balanced Body Functional Medicine, restoring health is what we do. Empowering women to feel and look their best is who we are. We would love to help you too!”

Peace of Mind Before You Buy

G

by Amy Sharp ina Cornelius has always loved real estate. “Architecture, the building process...all of it,” says

Gina. “I was on-site nearly every day when I built my three homes in Katy and Fulshear. There was even a time I considered opening my own construction company.” But instead of a construction company, today Gina uses her knowledge to make sure the home you fall in love with is a home where you can enjoy peace of mind. Now in her fifth year of business, GNA Inspections is Gina’s fully-licensed, professional and exceptional home inspection company. A professional home inspection is an unbiased report on the visible and accessible components of a house. Why choose GNA Inspections? Gina and her team take the time to care. “We get to know you, and we inspect the house as if it were our own home or our mom’s. Every house is inspected the exact same way. If there’s an issue we write it, if not we don’t. Most of the time we even walk the roof...which many companies have stopped doing. If the home has a pool, we inspect it as well. The end result is an in depth report with color pictures that we email to you as both .pdf and .html. The small cost of an inspection can save you hundreds or even thousands of dollars in repair costs by alerting you to potential maintenance and repair issues before you buy a home.” Nearly all of Gina’s business is repeat business and referrals from satisfied customers. You might even know Gina! She raised her kids, Andrew and Rebekah, right here. Today, Andrew works at GNA Inspections with Gina, and Rebekah shares her mom’s love for real estate...she just got her real estate license and is an agent with CitiQuest Properties. Buy your next home with confidence. New programs at GNA Inspections include an appliance “Recall Chek,” a limited 90-day warranty on mold, sewer line, structural and mechanical, and a five-year repair warranty for roof leaks. This team is sure to exceed your expectations! For more information, visit www.gnainspections.com and follow “GNA Inspections, PLLC” on Facebook.

Vetted by The House Manager by Amy Sharp

The House Manager, owned by Cat Theriot, is a home and life management company.

“We are here when you don’t know who to call,” says Cat. “We have a team of construction experts at our fingertips that we have vetted for you. I can tell you, many contractors did not make The House Manager list after working in my own home!” Cat met ProRoofs Restoration owner Henry Viesca through a local BNI (Business Networking International) chapter. “I like to test out new vendors,” says Cat. “And a friend had just texted that she had a roof leak. I asked Henry if he could take a look. I was very impressed by his approach, demeanor and professionalism. He gave me a wealth of information about the issue and why it occurred; what went wrong and why. He is very knowledgeable about his profession, and he shares that knowledge. I like to learn why, so that when I go out to houses I can put clients in touch with the correct vendor and not waste anyone’s time. Henry is also thorough, he may know exactly what’s wrong from the ground, but he always gets out the ladder and gets on the roof to double check. Not only does Henry know roofs, he is able to educate people on the ins and outs of their insurance. I’m a big proponent of home maintenance...not waiting until it’s broken to fix it. I learned from Henry that roofs work much the same way. No insurance company wants to cover a roof that hasn’t been maintained.” How long has it been since your roof was maintained? Home inspections and roofing estimates are free of charge at ProRoofs Restoration. Cat’s first roof leak “test” (that is now fixed!) was back in October. Since then, The House Manager and ProRoofs Restoration have worked on multiple projects together. “Whenever it’s gutters or the roof, I call Henry!” says Cat. I did have regular maintenance done on the AC, but one Friday it had a problem and we were slammed! My sister-in-law lives in Katy, on the same street as Gerald and Kim Svetlik, the owners of True Fix A/C & Heating. I was in a jam, and she recommended I call True Fix.” “OMG,” continues Barbie, “they came out right away. Gerald and his crew really understood the urgency of the business. They took care of

everything. The experience was so fantastic, I now have True Fix on a maintenance contract for both my home and my restaurant. At the restaurant, they’ve actually caught problems before they became bigger problems and corrected them. We recently added a bar, and True Fix took care of the installation. We have had zero problems with that new system.” In business for more than 45 years, True Fix A/C & Heating is Katy’s oldest independent Trane Comfort Specialist. This family-owned and operated business specializes in residential and light commercial air conditioning and heating services. Gerald says, “Kim and I have lived in Katy for a long time. We raised our kids here. Our customers are our neighbors, and that’s how we treat you. We never hire subcontractors and we never settle. We demand each and every job be ‘picture perfect.’” True Fix has received many awards for outstanding customer service. They’re a BBB Gold Star Award recipient, a member of the Katy Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America, and EPA and NATE certified. And for the fourth year in a row, Trane has been voted ‘‘America’s Most Trusted” heating, ventilation and air conditioning manufacturer in Lifestory Research surveys. Barbie says, “True Fix is a local business that’s great at what they do. But it’s actually more than that. They feel like family when they come out to my home or restaurant. I feel safe. onie Reincke, M.D. spent the summer after her junior year of high school as a phlebotomist at her local rural hospital. She says, “No one in my family had ever gone to college. At my counselor’s suggestion, I sought out the internship at the hospital drawing blood.” Little did she know, working with veins would become Dr. Reincke’s life’s work. “At the time, becoming a doctor really felt out of reach, so I went to nursing school.” Encouraged by the residents while working in a surgical ICU, Dr. Reincke completed her medical studies. “I have chosen to focus on veins and venous procedures,” says board-certified Interventional Radiologist Dr. Reincke. “New technology has made it much less complicated with immediate results. Back when I worked in the surgical ICU, I often saw patients in the long and painful recovery after vein stripping. Today, we have come full circle. We can do minimally invasive outpatient procedures that produce great results. Patients quickly go back to normal activities, and I feel I’m doing some good.” “What we do here is not about how your legs look,” continues Dr. Reincke. “We are treating the underlying problem: venous insufficiency. Symptoms include tired, heavy, achy legs, restless legs, bulging veins, itching, darkening skin, and wounds that won’t heal. Venous insufficiency is not a normal part of aging. While it is not curable, it is treatable. If left untreated, the condition will continue to worsen.” Metro Vein Centers is a national leader in the treatment of venous conditions using the latest minimally invasive technologies. To date, Dr. Reincke has performed thousands of venous procedures and trained several physicians in the vein field. At Metro Vein Center Sugar Land, she personally sees each patient and performs all procedures. “I’m super passionate about patient care,” says. Dr. Reincke. “I want each of my patients to feel well taken care of.” And her patients are feeling it. Dr. Reincke was voted Living Magazine’s “Best Vein Doctor in Fort Bend” in 2017, and named “Top Doctor in Fort Bend” in both 2017 and 2018. A Clean and Pristine Garage Floor

that Lasts for Decades

I

s your garage floor spotted with oil stains? Have you tried a DIY epoxy and become frustrated by the cracking and peeling? What if there was a solution covered by a warranty for more than 20 years? Meet Glenn Taylor and Matt Williams, owners of local Garage Kings. “What we do,” says Glenn, “is apply a polyaspartic flooring in your garage. It’s breathable, bendable, flexible and durable. It won’t stain, crack, peel, become discolored or show tire marks. Polyaspartic flooring is about the thickness of a credit card once applied. It’s easy to clean and has superior anti-slip traction. You might say it’s overkill for a garage. But with a 21-year adhesion warranty, your garage floor (or maybe man cave!) will look clean and pristine for a very long time.” When you choose to finish your garage floor with Garage Kings, your consultation is free and your quoted price is all-inclusive. Matt says, “With a 21-year warranty, everything has to be done perfectly. At your consultation, we do a moisture test to ensure polyaspartic is right for your floor. We also

do a concrete scratch test to make sure we bring the right tools to do your job. We measure and quote a price that includes leveling of any uneven areas, stain removal and crack repair. Most jobs only take a day to complete, and by the end of that day you can walk on it. Seventy-two hours later, you can drive on it.” Glenn and Matt are both long time residents of Fort Bend County. Friends for more than 20 years, Matt works with Fort Bend County EMS as a paramedic and Glenn is a firefighter/paramedic with Missouri City Fire Department. Matt says, “We offer opportunities for other first responders and encourage hiring veterans here at Garage Kings. These are trustworthy individuals that have been vetted and background checked.” Glenn’s son Garrett will be joining the Garage Kings ranks later this year after he completes his service with the United States Navy. In addition to garage floors, polyaspartic flooring is perfect for around the pool, patios, commercial kitchens, airplane hangars and fire departments. “The sky’s the limit,” says Glenn. “Give us a call to schedule your free consultation and we’ll go from there!”
