ummertime in Sugar Land is “hot soup” weather thanks to frequent summer showers. In the past, Southern belles wore lightweight fabrics to get through the humid days. Today’s women prefer to simply wear shorts, a great alternative with one exception. Visible varicose veins. These veins lie under the skin and have become widened, twisted, and bulging. he Houston area has sure been through some sloshy conditions lately...setting floodwater records that the state is not likely to see again for quite a while. In the heroic style that is typical of most Texans, we witnessed daring water rescues, barbecue parties on rooftops, heartwarming stories of recovered pets, and of course neighbors doing damage control for other neighbors. hen Steve and Melissa May decided to re-do their two upstairs bathrooms, life issues got in the way. He wanted geologically interesting stone, she preferred glass, art and keepsakes. already decided that the murals were to be ‘framed’ with travertine chair rails and had colors picked. These pre-decisions greatly informed the subsequent shopping sprees with Teri. She helped us pick and coordinate everything else and assisted in making money-saving decisions. When the precut marble we had selected was unavailable, we purchased an entire slab that was on sale due to minor damage...and then used some of the leftover to frame the mirrors. Oil rubbed bronze shower hardware was purchased from Amazon.com at a fraction of local cost. The original mirrors were trimmed in lieu of purchasing new. Whenever we weren’t sure of our decisions, Teri insured us that it would all be okay. If we didn’t like it, they would take care of it.” “From start to finish, it became a bit like having extended family trooping in and out, sharing their laughter and wisdom over bottles of water, coffee, kolaches, crawfish or sugar-free popsicles,” says Melissa. “And we are very happy with the results. T
hat’s what Geraldine Doerr, a local patient of Dr. Steve Harris, told us about the chiropractic treatment she receives at Sugar Land Health Center. “I had chronic back pain for a long time,” says Geraldine, “and at times I was even bedridden. My MD did an MRI and he was not alarmed at the results. He said a lot of people have back pain, so I thought it was just something I would have to live with for the rest of my life.” But a friend of Geraldine’s thought otherwise. A longtime patient of Dr. Harris, this friend convinced Geraldine to accompany her to a “Patients and Friends” party at Sugar Land Health Center this past February. “The place looked like a spa and had beautiful, relaxing music in the background. I wanted to see him for my back that night!” When Geraldine did go to her first appointment, Dr. Harris put together a treatment plan to help her. “He told me there were no guarantees,” says Geraldine, “as he discovered my debilitating pain was caused by pressure on my sciatic nerve from multiple disc protrusions coupled with back pain. I didn’t want surgery...so I took a chance. I thought if Dr. Harris could relieve the pressure off the nerve, I could probably live with the back pain.” Today, Geraldine is at the end of her custom treatment plan. “I have no recurring nerve pain,” says Geraldine, “and there are days I don’t even think about my back! I was always an active woman...moving heavy items without a second thought. I can no longer do that. I still have to take it easy, but with prayer and Dr. Harris’ help I’m so much better and I’ve avoided surgery. Each time I leave his office I always check my pain level as zero. The machines are just wonderful, not painful at all. I wish I could take them home! I’m now moving into a maintenance plan—twelve sessions between now and the end of the year. I really can’t think of a downside to what Dr. Harris has done for me! It’s truly wonderful!” Dr. Harris says, “Back pain is the number one symptom I see in my patients.
