Make His Gym Your Gym by Amy Sharp

“A

fter years of working in (and working out at) other gyms, we created the first Dynamic Fitness as a place where everyone could enjoy accessible, state-of-theart equipment, superior customer service and cleanliness, and straight-forward, affordable pricing,” says Jared Williams, owner of Dynamic Fitness. “And thanks to an extremely hardworking and dedicated team driving our vision...we have grown! They are the true leaders of our success.” Dynamic Fitness opened in Pearland in 2009. Today, Jared has additional locations in Sugar Land, Post Oak/Galleria and our very own Katy location at I-10/Barker Cypress. “Gyms should be like restaurants,” continues Jared. “You impress the client on their first visit, and they expect the same service on future visits. Your gym is not different—you should expect stellar service and respect every time you walk in the door. The last thing a gym should do is hook you into a contract and forget about you...after all, it should be YOUR facility. And it’s my facility. I regularly work out at all of my locations. It’s important for me to be in your shoes...see what you see.” And with Jared “walking the walk,” the state-of-the-art equipment at each Dynamic Fitness is in pristine condition and the facility is immaculate. Jared says, “We inspect everything quarterly and anything that is torn or cracking is

reupholstered or replaced. Vendors use our gyms to highlight their equipment because we always keep it in top condition. ‘Out of Order’ signs are rare here...and if we need one, we include a timeline on fixing the machine. We want to exceed your expectations!” Equipped with everything you’d find at a big chain gym—pinselect machines, cable pulley machines, plate-load equipment, dumbbells, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna, cycling studio, and a large assortment of group fitness classes—Dynamic Fitness also has dynamic pricing…$19.99/month. Jared says, “We have different bundles that include add-ons like childcare, personal training and tanning, but our base price is simple. For that low price you can access all of our classes, equipment and pools...at all of our locally-owned and operated locations!” Jared and his wife Mariela are the proud new parents of baby Carmen. “I can’t wait for the upcoming holidays,” says Jared. “It will be a special one for our family...Carmen’s first Christmas. But I also want to remind everyone that amid the feasting and festivities, you can stay fit. We have fabulous personal trainers to guide you through it, and as a gift of Holiday Health from us, we are offering three FREE personal training sessions. Happy Holidays!”

A Community of Compassion by Amy Sharp

“T

ransforming hurting people into healthy families through the hope of God.” That’s the mission of Family Hope, the place of compassion and transformation serving the communities of Fulshear and Simonton. Dr. Dale Olson, Executive Director of Family Hope, says, “We all go through hurting seasons...at all income levels. Family Hope is here to help you through those seasons, making an individual or family independent again. We serve as the connecting rod for the community...offering food, seminars, counseling, tutoring and future planning. Family Hope is a place where we grow together and serve each other.” One of Family Hope’s biggest endeavors is the monthly food fair. In partnership with Second Mile and the Houston Food Bank, Family Hope serves free fresh fruit and vegetables to anyone in need in Fort Bend County. “We live in a very generous community, and the food fair is a great opportunity to give back,” says Dr. Olson. “Here, kids work alongside adults, and people from all walks of life work together. If your organization would like to ‘sponsor’ a Saturday and bring a wealth of volunteers, just give me call. For individuals and families, there’s no need to sign up...just show up!” The tutoring program supported by Family Hope is targeting our impoverished kids, making sure they learn to read at an early age. Dr. Olson says, “I’ve done a lot of prison ministry, and a common thread among those incarcerated is an inability to read. We need to catch these kids early, because in today’s educational world, you need the ability to ‘read to learn’ by 3rd grade. Studies show if you can’t read by then, your challenges will only become more difficult. By helping these children, we are hoping to lift them out of their circumstances as they move into adulthood.” Family Hope operates under the umbrella of Fulshear Outreach & Development, a registered 501(c)3 with the IRS. Food Fairs are the second Saturday of each month at Riverbend Church in Fulshear. Volunteers are needed 9am-11am. Fulshear’s Upscale Dining Experience

F

rom the Four Seasons to the MGM Grand to Vic and Anthony’s, Dave Marquez knows the five-star experience. That’s why under his helm, Dekker’s Mesquite Grill in Fulshear has become the upscale hotspot to meet for dinner, meet for drinks, or meet and watch the big game. Dave’s restaurant career began when he worked as a server and bartender at TGI Fridays, and then the Four Seasons, while in college. After graduating from UT and several career moves, Dave became the general manager of Fado’s Irish Pub in Austin, and then the Executive GM over Fado’s in Chicago. When Dave’s parents moved to Las Vegas, he decided to follow them. Dave was hired by the MGM Grand to manage the butler staff in the swanky $1,000 to $10,000/night sky lofts. “I had a staff of around 40.” says Dave. “And it was our job to take care of the highest-end guests.” When Landry’s called, Dave moved to the Golden Nugget Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse. Amid awards and acclamations as general manager, Dave was asked to oversee additional restaurants at the Golden Nugget. That’s where Dave met Mike Knobelock, owner of Dekker’s and CEO of Dekker’s parent company, MSK Enterprises. “Mike was setting up a dinner for about 60 executives,” says Dave, “and I helped him pull it together. We became friends and chatted each time he came in to eat. Mike was looking for someone to oversee his full service operation, and he thought I was his guy.” Today, Dave is the Director of Operations for MSK Enterprise’s full service concepts, which includes our upscale yet charmingly Texas, Dekker’s. Voted “Best Patio in Katy” and “Freshest Seafood in Katy,” Dekker’s serves up great food prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients possible. “Our giant king crab legs--brought in fresh from Alaska-look straight out of an episode of Deadliest Catch,” says Dave. “And we know sometimes the weather just isn’t cooperative for outdoor dining, that’s why we’ve remodeled and extended the back room. The room has three TVs and an additional full service bar...it’s a great place to watch the game, and it can also be reserved for private parties.” Dave, his girlfriend Kelly, and their Yorkie Ruby are enjoying our grass, lakes and water...amenities just not found in Las Vegas. “We’ve done a lot of exploring, especially in the hill country. And I enjoy golf. Many Weston Lakes Country Club members stop in at Dekker’s after playing a round... and I love that from time to time I can join them on the green. It’s been a fun move for us and we love the MSK family. I’m really looking forward to our new Italian concept opening next year. Located near Briscoe Manor, it promises to be another fabulous location for upscale dining in this rapidly growing area!” Ready to treat yourself and your family to the five star experience? Make your reservations at Dekker’s today for any day of the week!

What Will YOU Find at Red Potato Market Days?

his month, more than 2,000 are expected at Red Potato’s biggest and best Market Days to date. Red Potato Market celebrates it’s second anniversary and 5th event in the Big Red Barn. “We have something for everyone,” says Laurie Cuthbertson, co-owner of Red Potato Market. “We’ve selected over 70 vendors from our area and areas as far away as Louisiana and Virginia. You’ll find antiques, vintage home furnishings, art, photography, crafts, lighting, glass, pottery, iron, lawn and garden items, vintage linens and clothing, fresh produce, beef, cheese, eggs and more!” And the theme of this October’s Market Days? Repurpose...because that’s what the ladies of Red Potato Market have done with the Event Center. Owner Debra Sabrsula says, “I grew with this barn—the Jim Reno barn. The late Jim Reno was a noted sculptor of western subjects and a legend in the cutting horse industry. This barn was his arena. The barn has amazing memories, and instead of tearing it down, we painted it red and repurposed it. Not just for Market Days, but as a charming and distinctive special events facility the entire community can enjoy. We’ve added a cement floor, restrooms and kitchen to the 15,000 sq ft barn,

making it the perfect location for all sorts of events, including weddings, family reunions, corporate and private parties. Stop by Market Days and check it out!” Have your own repurposing idea? Enter the Market Days Repurposing contest! Laurie says, “We are challenging our vendors and customers to create surprising new life for old things. Judging will be by local celebrities, we’ll have cool prizes, and we’ll display all entries during Market Days...we can even sell your item if you wish. Check our website for complete details.” So what will you find at The Big Red Barn? Red Potato Market Days runs October 23-24 from 9am till 5pm. id you know that The City of Sugar Land has strict guidelines for all of our fabulous food establishments? Among the long list of requirements to pass inspection, all restaurants must provide proof of monthly pest control/extermination. John Onofrey, owner of BUGCO Pest Control and Top 2 Bottom Inspections, loves a good steak. He and his family are frequent diners at Fernando’s Steakhouse—Sugar Land’s upscale locale for steaks and seafood prepared with Latin flair. One day Fernando—owner and namesake of Fernando’s Restaurant—was flipping through UpClose magazine. “There was a picture of John!” says Fernando. “He was the pest guy for Classic Chevy. I’d had no idea that’s what he did for a living. The next time he came into the restaurant, I pulled him aside and asked if we could talk. I had known him for quite sometime as a customer and he is just the kind of guy I like to do business with. I wasted no time in signing BUGCO as the pest control company for my restaurant.” John says, “We are so honored to be the company of choice for Fernando’s, one of my favorites! Where else can you enjoy exquisite food and service, plus candlelight, soft music, linen tablecloths and napkins? It’s a great place to relax or dance a few rounds on the dance floor with your sweetie. And I can tell you that I’ve seen that kitchen with my own eyes. The kitchen at Fernando’s is one of the cleanest around and as far as I’m concerned it’s going to stay that way.” “I have been very pleased with the service that BUGCO provides,” continues Fernando. “Everyone that works for John is extremely polite. They show up on schedule driving a company vehicle and wearing a uniform...very professional. They get their job done quickly and are out of our way so that we can do ours. I’ve absolutely recommended them

to other restaurants and businesses. I’d bet money you get the same great service and integrity with John’s other business, Top 2 Bottom Inspections. I haven’t had a need to use them yet...but the next time I need a building or home inspected...I’m calling John!” BUGCO Pest Control has an outstanding reputation for attention to detail in the Greater Houston Area. “We realize that business owners want this required and necessary service performed discreetly,” says Chris Millward, the Operations Manager at BUGCO, “especially when it’s during business hours. We also gladly accommodate our commercial customers by coming in after closing if they wish. I know good commercial pest control providers are hard to come by...but here at BUGCO we vow to do whatever it takes to satisfy your needs. It’s the reason so many of our business clients and residential clients have relied on us for years!”

Making a Difference in the Community

DR.

Shilpa Chandiwal, DDS at Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry believes in doing her share to make a difference in Katy. This school year she’s sponsoring Silver Knight Science Club at Shafer Elementary School and volunteering to speak at the Goddard and other local schools. “As a Cinco Ranch resident myself,” says Dr. Shilpa, “I think it’s important to be involved with the children and families in our community.” Silver Knight Science Club is a new program at Shafer Elementary School for the 2015-16 school year. Science labs will be offered to all students and will support classroom learning in a hands-on way. Dr. Shilpa says, “Healthy Teeth Pediatric Dentistry is sponsoring this club because it’s educational and it’s fun for the children. They will get more exposure to science...a field that’s near and dear to me. My son will start school at Shafer Elementary next year and I love that he too will benefit from this great program!” October is Community Helpers Month and Dr. Shilpa will be talking to the the little ones at the Goddard School about oral hygiene and healthy snacks. She says, “We’ll talk about brushing their teeth, healthy eating habits, oral health, and disease prevention. It is so much fun to interact with them at this age—and I want to ease their fears—so they are comfortable asking me questions about brushing, taking care of their teeth and seeing the dentist. And not to leave out the older kids...I will also give a short presentation to the after school program at Goddard about choosing healthy snacks and the importance of oral hygiene at their age. A little education can go a long way in promoting healthy teeth.” When she’s not working and volunteering, Dr. Shilpa enjoys spending time with her husband, Dr. Amito Chandiwal, her five year old son and eight month old daughter. Both Dr. Shilpa and her husband—an internist at Memorial Hermann and Methodist Hospital, Katy—take pride in serving our community and helping in anyway they can. “I know first hand it’s not always easy to teach your children how to take care of their teeth, that’s why I’m here to help!!”

A House

Built for a

T

hirteen year veteran, SSG Charles R. Landry, Jr. experienced 39 months of active combat. Among other things, his tour of duty included numerous firefights, vehicle borne IEDs, friendly and enemy casualities, and rocket attacks. The trauma Landry endured through his deployments had a significant impact on his behavior. After seeking out help, Landry was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, and traumatic brain disorder. But Landry is a fighter and a hero...and he is determined to live a normal life, being the best husband to his wife Kathleen, and father to his beautiful daughter Aylani, son Tyree, and his third child expected in January. On September 4th during the Skeeters baseball game, together with Tilson Homes and Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land, Operation FINALLY HOME took a big step in helping make the Landry family dreams come true. As part of a surprise announcement, the Landry family learned they would be receiving a brand-new mortgage-free home built right here in Fort Bend County. It all started on Veterans Day nearly a year ago, when Classic Chevrolet Sugar Land launched their “Buy a Truck,

Hero

House a Hero” campaign at the dealership. For every new Silverado truck purchased, $250 of the purchase price went toward a house for a Fort Bend County-area wounded veteran. Classic Chevy owner Don Kerstetter says, “Each new truck buyer signed their name to our Wall of Honor. Together with our customers, we reached our goal of $75,000. I come from a military family and have done quite a bit of support for veterans and their families locally. We are proud to help the Landry family take the weight of a mortgage off their shoulders.” Operation FINALLY HOME provides custom-built, mortgage-free homes to America’s Heroes and the widows of the fallen who have sacrificed so much defending our freedom. By uniting corporate sponsors like Classic Chevy and Tilson Homes, plus contributions from individuals and volunteers like all of us, Operation FINALLY HOME helps these heroes and their families transition to the home front by addressing one of their most pressing needs – a home to call their own. Construction of the Landry’s new home will be lead by Tilson Homes. This will be the fifth home Tilson has supported with Operation FINALLY HOME. “ Back pain never takes a time out”

by Sarah Warburton

oes pain keep you from reaching for a saucepan in the kitchen, picking up your daughter for a hug, hitting the golf course on the weekend, or concentrating on the computer at work? Can you remember the last time you felt completely healthy? It’s not natural to be in pain - but for millions of Americans it’s a fact of their daily lives. Dr. Sebastian Villarreal, MD at Katy Pain Specialists offers a conservative, minimally invasive treatment for back pain that’s effective…without the use of strong narcotics or invasive surgery! Wherever your back pain starts, we can treat it at the source! Since he’s board certified and a Diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and specializes in pain medicine, he understands the ins-and-outs of treating and managing pain. He says, “Not all back pain comes from the same source. For UPCLOSE Katy ~ Nov-Dec 2015 12 ~

example, sciatica starts as irritation of the sciatic nerve which gives you pain that radiates from your lower back into your hip and leg. Muscles spasms, Lumbar Spinal Stenosis, Sacroiliac Joint Pain, and Facet Joint Disease can all cause back pain and make it harder for you to live and enjoy your life!”

Take the Non-Surgical Non-Narcotics path to Pain Free Living! Ready to break free of the cycle of pain that’s ruining your life? With years of experience treating back pain, Dr. Villarreal has seen it all. He says, “Many patients suffer from back pain that stems from spinal disc issues like a herniated (ruptured or bulging) disc pressuring and irritating the nerves around your spine. Another common disc problem is a degenerated disc which has dete-

riorated or shrunk and can’t cushion your vertebrae properly. I often use targeted, controlled epidural steroid injections (ESIs) to reduce inflammation…right where you have an inflamed disc or pinched nerve!” Dr. Villarreal’s experience in anesthesia means he’s got a crystal-clear understanding of your spine and nerve roots…and his training in pain management means he can treat your back pain right where it starts. He says, “Instead of relying on medication to dull your back pain, I prefer to identify the source and intervene to correct the problem. That’s the core philosophy of Interventional Pain Management.” Katy Pain Specialists Executive Manager Stephen Hayes invites you to discover how we can help you Spring Back to Life! Bright Smile for a

R

Super Active Teen by Susan Profilet

icky Rico is one super busy teenager with a good looking smile! He spends his summers as an actor in Los Angeles, and when he’s home in Texas, he plays every sport imaginable...football, basketball, track, tennis, soccer, and baseball. Most recently he’s been featured in TV ads for Academy Sports and Outdoors, as well as posters on display in the Academy stores. “Dr. David Bright put Ricky in braces about two years ago,” says Ricky’s mom. “Ricky’s a freshman at East Bernard High School, and is in almost every activity and club. He is very active, plays rough, and gets elbowed in the mouth a lot. Since he’s an actor, Dr. Bright recommended clear braces. Seeing as ceramic brackets are more fragile than metal they require delicate treatment, but with Ricky’s dedication to sports, Dr. Bright has taken extra care to make them extra strong. To further protect his smile, Dr. Bright also recommended a mouth guard for football...which Ricky definitely uses.” “We actually met Dr. Bright about four years ago when he supported Ricky’s sister during a Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show by buying her steer in the auction. He is just an amazing man. Even though Ricky’s very rough on his braces, Dr. Bright and his staff are very understanding. They are like a part of our family. Like their other patients, they always try diligently to accommodate Ricky’s busy acting and sports schedules, and they still ask how Ricky’s sister is doing...even though she’s 20 years old now. I never hesitate to recommend Bright Orthodontics to friends and family.”

Dr. Bright says, “Growing up, I was never the kid with the perfect smile, which definitely contributed to my interest in orthodontics as a young adult. Becoming an orthodontist has opened up a world of opportunities for me, allowing me to create a loving, family environment for my patients while giving them what I did not have…A BRIGHT, healthy, beautiful smile. I met Ricky’s family by chance, and I love that they allowed me the opportunity to work on Ricky’s smile. He’s quite the budding young man with a bright future ahead of him!” With offices located in Katy and Fulshear and a full range of advanced orthodontic services for children and adults, it is convenient for anyone who needs orthodontic care to visit Dr. Bright. “We offer all the latest options,” says Dr. Bright. “Invisalign for teens and adults, ceramic and metal braces, the Damon Technique, custom mouthguards for athletes, laser treatment, and AcceleDent...designed to speed up your orthodontic treatment. Like we’ve done for Ricky, we take your circumstances and lifestyle into consideration and choose the best treatment possible. Set up a complimentary consultation and let us see what we can do for you!” Bright Orthodontics 810 S. Mason Rd., Ste 290 Katy, TX 77450

Outdoor Living Spaces Built Just for You! by Amy Sharp

magine a place outdoors where you can spend an entire day swimming, entertaining friends and family, serving drinks and meals and watching the big game. Kryshon Bratton, co-owner of Bratton Pools with her husband Mike, says, “We started building and renovating pools years ago. What we learned from our clients is that many times just a pool is not enough. To really enjoy their backyard...people want an outdoor living space.” Outdoor living space designs can include anything and everything you like. Pergolas, pavilions, a pool, waterfalls and fountains, rock formations, custom lighting and audio visual amenities...the possibilities are endless! Kryshon says, “If you are looking to spend your nights and weekends entertaining while enjoying the beautiful outdoors, we can construct a custom outdoor kitchen just for you. With concrete and granite countertops, industrial ice makers and refrigerators, warm drawers, ovens and stoves--anything your indoor kitchen has, we can make it a part of your outdoor kitchen. To extend the life of the outdoor space into fall and winter, an outdoor fire pit is a popular choice. Imagine nights gathered around the fire...in your own backyard. And to truly make the space yours, we can add custom waterfalls, spillovers, lighting, mounted televisions and speakers...whatever fills the needs of your family and makes it a space that everyone can truly enjoy.”

“Our outdoor living spaces undergo the same design process as our pools,” continues Kryshon. “We go out to your home, take a look at your space, and get a feel for what you are wanting. Then we come up with 3D plans where you can really see your ideas come to life. Every yard is different, so have no set designs. What I love is that through the designs, we really see the personality of our clients come out. The space really becomes your space!” And design is only the beginning of the fabulous service Bratton Pools provides. Kryshon says, “We never manage construction remotely. We are very hands-on and supervise the process directly every step of the way. Mike and I are committed to making sure you never feel in the dark...we are with you until your outdoor living space is finished to your satisfaction.” A family-owned and operated business, Bratton Pools maintains an A+ rating with the BBB. Check out Bratton Pools on FaceBook and see the endless possibilities for your outdoor living space. As one satisfied Bratton customer says, “It’s like we added a giant room...right in our backyard!” Bratton Pools ~ 281-988-7700 www.brattonpools.com

ndrew Sharp, Financial Consultant with Charles Schwab, has worked as a broker, financial planner, research analyst and product specialist...and when an opportunity at Charles Schwab presented itself, he jumped on it. “The company where I was working was acquired by Schwab,” says Andy. “I could have left and gone anywhere, but as I learned about Schwab’s philosophy—to really look at an individual’s current situation and financial goals, and then come up with a comprehensive, concrete plan to meet them—I realized it was the place for me. My experiences have taught me that the only way to manage another person’s money is to really get to know them, see the world through their eyes and encourage them to ask questions and get engaged.” “When you choose to invest with Schwab, it’s on your terms, and you’ll always understand what’s going on with your money and why,” continues Andy. “We are not a transaction-based business and not into get-rich-quick schemes and ideas. We simply protect and grow your hard-earned wealth... and manage your risk, protecting you and your family. I’m not just talking about mar-

ket swings. For example, there’s a misconception that estate planning is for the ultra-wealthy. Not true. Should something happen to you, your assets could be frozen for months until probated. That’s a huge risk if your family needs those assets, but it’s avoidable with the correct planning. We call it taking ownership of your future.” Born and raised in the Midwest, Andy met his wife when they were both undergraduates at the University of Notre Dame. “Amy is a native Texan,” says Andy. “My dream was to live in Chicago...but she changed my plans. I couldn’t be happier. Houston is a great place to work and Texas is a great place to play. I look out my office window, and there’s cranes on the horizon in every direction. That’s progress, growth and opportunity. My kids attend outstanding public schools, and with the cost of living so low...it’s easy to do a lot of playing. I love South Padre and the Hill Country...and I really love that I can golf year round!” Andy received his MBA from Houston Baptist University and is affiliated with the Houston Society of Financial Analysts and the Fulshear Area Chamber of Commerce. magine taking a fitness class from a dancer or an athlete, a mom or a weight-loss success story? That’s the kind of instructors you’ll find at Cinthia’s Fitness Zone—Katy’s only studio dedicated to Zumba. We had a chance to talk with each of Cinthia’s instructors about why they love Zumba. Diana Huayamave, Jacquie Salinas, and Alina Da Silva all have dance backgrounds. Alina was trained in classical ballet and all genres of dance in Brazil as a child. Diana has taught South American dance —salsa and merengue—since 2004, and Jacquie spent six years teaching Latin dance. Diana says, “Zumba is dancing fitness, and it’s a great way to kick off your day. It’s a mood changer! We are all just so grateful to share our talent and keep people moving!” Angelica Palmer has two children. She has been doing Zumba since Zumba was brand new and she’s obsessed with it. “I did Zumba through my pregnancies,” says Angelica. “And I had healthy babies and easy deliveries. I want to inspire other moms to try this fun workout.” Shellah Ley was staying home with her babies when she discovered Zumba at her local Y. Shellah says, “A class is a one hour escape for you—a party with good vibes and dancing—all while burning calories.” Sounds great for mom...and for the kids! Elvira Crispin started Zumba in 2007, and became an instructor in 2011...and children are her specialty. “I’m certified in Zumba Kids,” says Elvira. “And I love working with kids...always a fun time!”

Former tennis player from Kansas and “matadora” in the Zumba world, Giancarla Di Laura says, “Zumba is a great activity. It builds muscle, it builds friendships, it’s cardio and it’s life changing.” Life changing indeed...instructor Claudia Padilla has lost 120 lbs since starting Zumba. Claudia says. “I love it. I reached my goal and I’m sure you can as well!” Ligia Henriquez, Maria Esther Rocha and owner Cinthia Valencia complete this dynamic team. Ligia, a veteran of the Venezuelan Air Force, is the Z-COM—the elected Zumba Community representative—for the State of Texas. She’s honored to teach some classes at Cinthia’s. “Cinthia and I just have a connection,” says Ligia, “and we both love to help people.” Cinthia and Maria learned Zumba together in Mexico back in 2005. They both fell in love with it immediately and became teachers. Cinthia has taught Zumba in different countries around the world. Cinthia says. “I’m so excited about delivering Zumba classes here in Katy with this amazing team. We have a wealth of knowledge and experience. I’m personally committed to making sure the vibe of each class is charged with fun and fitness. I encourage you to give Zumba a try!” For more information on Cinthia’s Fitness Zone or to see the different types of Zumba available for all ages, visit: www.cinthiasfitnesszone.com.

ast May, newlyweds Brett and Brittany Bammert decided to move out of their Energy Corridor apartment and find a place to call their own. Brittany says, “We really liked the Katy area, and it’s close to our work. On a recommendation from a friend, we reached out to Paula Rucky to help us find our first home. She got back to us very quickly and we were looking at houses three days later!” “My husband and I had looked at houses on the internet prior to contacting Paula,” continues Brittany. “We had picked out a few, and we showed Paula these listings. We also discussed our price range, which neighborhoods we liked, and that we really wanted a ranch-style house. Paula provided us additional information on these listings, and others

available that fit our criteria. School zoning was important to us, and Paula (who’s a Katy mom) is extremely knowledgeable in this area. We ended up looking at three homes and we put an offer on one of them, We got a great price and it was just what we wanted. We were truly impressed with Paula’s expertise in all aspects of the home buying process. It was all smooth sailing!” In real estate since 1984, Paula has been in the Katy area for more than 25 years. She’s been a Top Producer for over 15 years, and for the last five she has been awarded the Five Star Real Estate Agent Award by Five Star Professional Research. When you work with Paula, you also get access to “Paula’s List”—the list of top-notch area businesses that have earned Paula’s trust. Brittany says, “We used her list to find an appraiser, a handyman, and a company for homeowner’s insurance. So simple!” Paula says, “Whether you’re buying your first house or selling an existing house and upgrading, my job is to make that process easy for you. I love helping families like Brett and Brittany find homes to love. If you are considering making a move, contact me anytime! I’m always available to answer any of your questions...and would love to help your family ‘smooth sail’ into the home of your dreams!” Paula Rucky, REALTOR® ABR, CHMS, CNE, CRS ~ RE/MAX Grand Rucky Properties ~ 281-793-5779 paula@ruckyproperties.com www.ruckyproperties.com

arketing a product or a service is no longer about hype—it’s about information. Instant access to information changed the way we make decisions... from the neighborhoods we live in to the lawn services we hire. First and foremost, it’s important to keep your family safe. Lawn care professionals are around your house when you’re away or even when your teenager is home alone. “Always ask your neighbors for recommendations,” says Bruce Granger of NaturaLawn of America. “And be sure to check out those recommendations on consumer websites like Angie’s List. Also, confirm that your lawn care company is licensed and insured to do business in your state.” Are you ready to choose the company that can provide a greener, healthy lawn? “There are no quick fixes or miracles!” says Bruce. “We are dealing with nature and weather patterns.

So much of it is out of our control, it’s truly an educational process. No one’s lawn is going to look great when it’s 100 degrees outside for days on end, but your lawn service should work with you and get you through it. Your lawn can look better than most. If it doesn’t, you should have the option to cancel your service anytime. Never choose a service that ties you to a binding contract.” When you choose NaturaLawn of America as your lawn care service, you can expect a nice healthy lawn and a personal touch. “We always knock on your door and say hello before beginning your lawn treatment,” says Bruce. “Expect to have your sidewalk, driveway and patio blown off and clear when we are finished. We will even leave you a handwritten note saying the job has been completed. We’ll work with you on watering schedules and weed control. We take pride in personal service and earning your trust, and we take pride in our products. NaturaLawn of America is organic-based natural lawn care that’s nontoxic for your family and pets...and that’s important too! Give us a call today and we’ll give you a yard worth coming home to!”

Cousins Lexie Barton FNP and Lindsey Crow are more like sisters. Both moved here from New Mexico back in 2005, they have kids the same age, and now they own a business together. “I was working at a medspa in Conroe,” says Lexie, “and it was something I was really passionate about. I bounced the idea of opening one here in Katy off Lindsey, and it just took fire from there.” Lindsey has business experience working at a plastic surgeon’s office and as a service coordinator in oil and gas. “Once we decided ‘Let’s do it!’” says Lindsey, “BeYoutiful Spa quickly became a reality!” At BeYoutiful Spa, you’ll find a comprehensive suite of services for both men and women that enhance their well-being, including medically managed weight-loss, facial injections, laser hair removal and all areas of aesthetics. It’s the first medspa in Katy to offer bioTE--bioidentical all-natural hormones in tiny pellets inserted just under the skin that release a steady supply of hormones into your bloodstream, adjusting with your activity levels. “Gone is the roller coaster of energy and focus you may have experienced with pills, patches or creams,” says Lexie. “And these hormones are not synthetic. Topical hormones can rub off in places you don’t want them...like on your kids or pets. I once had a lady come in because she consistently felt terrible and thought her hormones might be out of balance. I tested her levels and she had extremely high testosterone. Turns out she slept every night under her husband’s arm, and his topical hormone deodorant was rubbing off on her. With bioTE, this isn’t even a possibility!” Do you struggle with acne, wrinkles, capillaries, rosacea, hyperpigmentation or even skin tags? Check out Rezenerate Facials™. “These medicated facials are amazing,” says Lexie. “They leave your face refreshed, restored and renewed. The secret? The Rezenerate Wand™. It’s an array of pyramid-like structures (less than 1/3 the size of a single strand of human hair) that allow for precise and pain-free conditioning of the skin. Cell repair and regeneration is stimulated, creating never before seen results!” One excited BeYoutiful client says, “I felt like I was just having a talk with a girlfriend about wellness...very personable and just fun to be around!” That’s exactly the kind of attention Lexie and Lindsey aim to provide. “If you call us and inquire about a service,” says Lindsey, “we don’t just tell you how much it costs and put you on the schedule. Lexie explains everything to you, either over the phone or in a personal consultation. And all services are administered by Lexie, a Family Nurse Practitioner.” “Our mission is health, harmony, and happiness,” says Lexie. “We want to help you feel more like you. And when you feel better, you look better and you’re happier...and that’s a beautiful thing.”
