DENTAL Health: Pro Tips for Parents

hen patients walk into the aquatic wonderland that is Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental’s waiting area, they are mesmerized by the arcade games, the movie nook, and the enormous, silly sea animals on the walls (the shark has braces!). But it’s not just the fun setting that makes kids feel comfortable. The team works tirelessly to ensure each and every patient has a relaxed dental experience and leaves happy. Dr. Faisal Khan attributes the practice’s success to the four dentists and team of 20 employees backing them up.
“I have three amazing dentists on staff, who all believe the kids come first, and they practice that every day,” he says. Dr Priyanshi Ritwik, Dr. Annie Zheng, and Dr. Khadija Khan are all well-loved by the kids that come in. “Our team is trained on advanced dental procedures and techniques so that patients can benefit from the latest in dental care.”
“We understand the importance of listening to patients and helping them to feel comfortable and relaxed. This personal approach is evident in everything we do,” says Dr. Zheng.
“This is a very child-centered practice,” adds Dr. Ritwik. “If something is appropriate and right for children, we make it happen. We have access to the equipment, materials, and other specialized items that we need. This allows us to take care of each child as if they were one of our own. I go to bed happy knowing we are providing the best pediatric dental care possible.”
From making an appointment, filling out paperwork, conducting an examination, and providing dental treatments, the staff at Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental takes the time to connect with patients and give them the thoughtful attention they deserve.
One of the practice’s newer employees, dental hygienist Kenshae Nevis, says, “I love the office’s energy and its fact-paced environment, where everyone works together to make sure the kids are at ease.”
Office Manager Mary Zurita has been with the practice for 11 years. “Our team gets to know our patients, and our patients get to know our staff. We enjoy watching the children grow with us through the years. Seeing familiar and friendly faces when they walk in the door puts patients and their families at ease,” Mary says. “We have several other team members who have been here for more than a decade! Our team is a big family.”
Today, with a dozen years in business, Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental is one of the largest pediatric dental offices in all of Fort Bend, Houston, and the surrounding areas. They specialize in providing care for infants, children, and teens, as well as other individuals. “Our team is sincerely dedicated to providing a welcoming and imaginative experience for all children,” he concludes. “Sometimes we even express ourselves through costumes and fun t-shirts to make the kids smile and relax. It’s all just for grins.”

ART AMBASSADORS
By Alisha McMillen
Cathy Stubbs is as passionate about art as she is about the homes she sells. “Art brings everything to life. It brings people together in a very unique way,” she says.
An unofficial arts ambassador, Cathy leads her community to artistic growth and sustainability and creates a communication bridge between parties. “Art is an important facet to a community – a portal into the shared visions of so many people,” she explains. “I’ve embraced the kaleidoscope of our community through art pieces. Art is one powerful thing we all share. It’s an efficient and beautiful way to open communication lines.”
People may not expect a metropolitan suburb to have its own art museum, led by a group of board members who are dedicated to presenting the region’s contemporary art to the public. Sugar Land Town Square’s Art Museum TX is the ‘small art museum with a big sense of community.’ Its board members are our county art ambassadors who are making Fort Bend County an artistic haven for art lovers and artists alike.
“Linda Howell approached me with her passion about how an art museum would catapult the community forward,” Cathy says. “She was able to articulate this message and got everyone excited about the museum. She really is its backbone.”
She continues, “A community that embraces art offers its residents an exciting and multi-faceted place to call home. Not all communities
have art at their fingertips like our community does. And we’re lucky to have the museum’s curator, Ana Villaronga-Roman, as the brains behind how we keep it going every day. She has the expertise to attract quality artists ... our artists are the real deal.”
Town Square itself is managed by Rebees, a Dallas-based real estate company dedicated to turning it into an art hub – a shared place for the community to come together and enjoy art. “They’ve even applied to the state to have Sugar Land Town Square designated as a cultural district,” Cathy says. The Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation also holds a very successful arts festival in the community each April. “I sponsored its inaugural year,” Cathy says. “Events like this pave the way for supporters of the arts to launch new opportunities.”
Town Square is full of various art displays, including sculptures, paintings, and murals. “We have our own vibrant art community for residents to enjoy,” says Cathy, who commissioned a beautiful Longhorn mural in the square. “As we become a cultural arts district, there will be rotating art exhibits of sculpture and other art forms throughout the area. The Longhorn mural was just one of the first. I wanted to recognize the history and contribution of George Ranch.”
Cathy concludes, “Art can change how you feel and communicate. And it can change the way you view a community… the way you view YOUR community.”

You want a Custom CAR, Custom BOAT, Custom HOUSE Why not Customized MEDICINE?
In today’s world of branded and generic medications, most of us are accustomed to taking pre-fabricated pharmaceuticals in standard dosages and delivery systems. But sometimes, the one-size-fits-all approach to medication simply doesn’t work. If you happen to need a rare or hard-to-find medication, have very finely-tuned needs in terms of dosages, have allergies, or require an alternate delivery system, these pre-fabricated pharmaceuticals may not be the right medicine for you.
Founder of Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy, Dr. Lance Campbell, Pharm.D., R.Ph., says, “Many people are allergic to inert ingredients such as lactose, sugar, and gluten, as well as the dyes and preservatives used in the
manufacturing of many standardized medications. At Campbell’s Compounding, we can create the exact pharmaceutical compound that you need, while eliminating the inactive ingredients that may cause allergies or trigger sensitivities. For many allergy sufferers, this provides much-needed relief from their allergy-related symptoms!”
Compounded pharmaceuticals can be designed around a variety of delivery systems, depending on your needs and preferences. Dr. Campbell says, “Many oral medications have an unpleasant flavor. We can improve the palatability of your medication without compromising its efficacy. It’s great for kids! In other cases, patients with difficulty swallowing might prefer to absorb their medications in a liquid form rather than swallow a pill or capsule. In some cases, topical applications are also available.”
Campbell’s Compounding Pharmacy prides itself on customer service by providing a family feel. In addition to custom compounded medications, they stock all commercially available medications and will accept and bill your insurance company. Dr. Campbell says, “We work hard to help your family feel their best!”
“If our staff can’t make it… then you probably don’t need it!”

“We offer lots of off-site catering options and can serve it buffet style or provide full-service, seated meals,” says Pier 36 owner Jimmy Cantu.
Some of their customer favorites include their oyster bar, with fresh gulf oysters on the half-shell. And people love their fresh gulf shrimp. “We have a lot of grilled and healthy items to choose from, including blackened redfish with grilled veggies, our seasonal boiled crawfish, fresh whole flounder, and red snapper,” Jimmy explains. “We’ll prepare your favorites and bring them to you for your holiday party guests. We offer full service or buffet, for office lunches, sit down events, even weddings.”
location, along with his long-time employees “Our customers know and love our staff. And those employees know our regulars,” Jimmy says. “Many of my employees have been with me the full 18 years I’ve been in business. While numerous other employees have been with me for 10+ years. They’re my family.”
Born and raised in Richmond/Rosenberg, neighbors are used to seeing Jimmy in the Pier 36 Richmond
Now living in nearby Fulshear, Jimmy opened his second Pier 36 location there. “Our Fulshear location has a private room that seats up to 46 people, if you don’t want us to cater to you,” Jimmy adds. “We’ll come to you for your parties, or you can come to us.”
“Everything on the menu at Pier 36 is made from scratch,” says Jimmy. “I’ve been shucking fresh oysters and cooking our family’s seafood recipes since I was young, spending afternoons at my parents’ seafood restaurant.”
Call this Fort Bend favorite and stay out of the kitchen before your big party. You’ll be glad you did!
TWO EATERIES, STEPS APART, OFFER DATE-NIGHT DESTINATION
by Alisha McMillen
Lomonte’s Italian Restaurant & Bar has been serving the Richmond area in the same location for 18 years. Monte’s Tastes + Taps, located just a few doors down, has been open for two years. Both restaurants are owned by Braden Lomonte.
“I’ve lived in this community for 17+ years. We strive to maintain the small-town feel of our area and treat our customers like family.” Braden says. “Our little shopping center is a one-stop shop for a full night of fun. Monte’s Tastes + Taps is your neighborhood, family friendly sports bar serving upscale bar food, elevated entrees and nightly specials. With 17 TV’s, two bars, and a large patio area, it’s perfect to catch your favorite sports team with the family. Lomonte’s Italian Restaurant & Bar is your neighborhood Italian eatery, with traditional Italian favorites, plus fresh seafood, steaks, pizza, nightly specials, and a full bar
with an impressive wine list.”
“Many of our guests start at Monte’s for a drink and appetizer, then head down to Lomonte’s for a nice, upscale dinner, and close the night out with drinks and live music back at Monte’s,” he continues. “It’s a fun date-night destination.”
Successful for almost two decades, Lomonte’s recipes are inspired by Braden’s Sicilian grandmother, Mama Lomonte, and her recipes from her home in Licata, Sicily. “When we opened Monte’s, we gathered the team from Lomonte’s to come up with the more casual menu,” Braden says. “I wanted to ensure the quality of food was comparable and that we served more than traditional fried bar food. I wanted the food to be more upscale than that.”
While Lomonte’s is known for its Chicken Parmigiana, rich and creamy Fettuccine
Alfredo, bone-in pork chops, fresh seafood, and steaks, Monte’s is known for its wings, burgers, salads, specials like fresh flounder, steak night, and a big list of shareables, including Argentinian empanadas, toasted ravioli, and shrimp brochettes.
Both restaurants offer spaces for private parties and off-site catering, especially around the holidays. “People are already booking parties,” Braden says. “Lomonte’s has a private room that seats up to 50 people comfortably for a more classy, private, and upscale party. Monte’s has a popular outdoor bar and turf area that is perfect for a casual party on the patio. And we can cater virtually any size of event off-property. Just give us a call to discuss your specific needs.”
Italian families know how to share their love for each other through the language of food. Braden concludes, “Visit Lomonte’s Italian Restaurant & Bar and Monte’s Tastes + Taps – two restaurants, just steps apart. We have something for everyone!”

Under the Oak Trees Southern Charm
White gravy or brown gravy? In the South, the answer is always white gravy. Drench your chicken-fried steak in it. Pour it generously over your mashed potatoes. Dip your chicken strips and french fries in it. It’s a southern thing.
“We’re a southern comfort restaurant. With a tin roof adorned by a huge Texas flag and a farmhouse feel, our restaurant has its own personality,” says the owner of local Live Oak Grill, Roque Baecker. “We started as a burger joint. Today, guests are pleasantly surprised with our extensive menu.”
The menu boasts more than a dozen juicy burgers and seven southern-fried options, including customer favorites chicken-fried steak and chicken. You can choose from 10 unique salads (try the pecan-crusted chicken) and almost 20 specialty sandwiches, including the Texas Cheesesteak with spicy jalapenos. “We like to add our special twist to traditional recipes,” Roque says.
He continues, “At Live Oak, we’re proud to be a big part of our great southern community.” Roque’s adult kids both live and work nearby in Fort Bend County, and his son works side-by-side with him at the restaurant. “We’re very hands-on… people know me, they know my son, and they know our long-time employees. We don’t have a lot of turnover. We would not be successful without our loyal team,” Roque says. “It’s amazing how many repeat customers we have. They come back again
by Alisha McMillen
and again for their favorites and our employees are so in tune with them, they’ve already entered regular orders into the computer when they see the customer walk through the door.”
There’s a playground for the kids and dogs are welcome on all patios, including the enclosed, airconditioned back dining space. “We sponsor youth teams, like school and community basketball and swim teams, and even host those organizations’ banquets and celebrations on our back porch – it’s just a great, comfortable place for a group to relax,” Roque says. “We have school spirit nights, bake sales, and have hosted pet adoption and pet rescue events.”
For on-site parties, the restaurant charges a small room fee to reserve the back porch/ patio or the front ‘license plate’ room. “It just depends on how many people you expect and the atmosphere you’re looking for,” Roque explains. “We do our catering differently here. We tell people we can do most anything you want to cater to the specific occasion. We have a casual chat to build the menu you’re comfortable with, based on your budget requirements.”
At Live Oak Grill, they’re all about comfort and relaxed dining. “We want it to feel Texan – very laid-back and old-school,” Roque concludes. “We’re hidden in the middle of office parks… not where you would expect to find a little country restaurant. Stop by for a little taste of Texas. And dig into our white OR brown gravy –they’re both equally delicious.” Live Oak Grill 12935 Dairy Ashford Rd Sugar Land, TX 77478 281-491-5253

Walk into Johnny Tamales TexMex Cantina on FM 1092 in Missouri City and you’re instantly transported to a Mexican Fiesta. It’s a neighborhood eatery where the employees welcome guests and make them feel like family … where the vibrant flavors of Mexico and the hearty tastes of Texas collide in a fiesta for your taste buds. You’ll see the big bar surrounded by cozy booths. You’ll smell the aromatic flavors of fresh fajitas. You’ll hear their sizzle on the iron skillets. And you’ll be welcomed by one of the restaurant’s smiling staff members.
Old Mexico Meets Texas
The bar that anchors the restaurant’s main dining room is surrounded by cozy half-circle booths on one side, regular booths on the other, which are perched under a mural wall displaying a scene of a traditional Mexican town. The bar has comfortable red and green barstools,
with eight big TVs overhead. It is centered by a rack of colorful margarita glasses, surrounded by their vast offering of tequila and Mexican beer on tap.
As you head into the back room, the festive colors of Mexico continue with walls of white and green subway tiles and red, green, and white decorative balloons overhead. More cozy half-circle booths and chairs along one wall are enhanced Mexican ceramic plates and plant-filled Mexican clay pots. Curtains are traditional red velvet with colorful fringe, balanced by black and white photos on the walls with scenes from Mexico.
Halal Preparation Available
Open since early 2023, Johnny Tamales uniquely features two separate kitchens – one regular and one Halal. The Halal kitchen boasts its own grill, cooking, and prep areas, along with green equipment to ensure there’s no cross-contamination. Delicious vegetarian options are also available.
Flavors that Satisfy
The menu showcases classic Tex-Mex dishes with a creative twist. Beef and chicken fajitas come out sizzling and can be served flaming. The restaurant is always trying new menu items, like chargrilled shrimp skewers, served with grilled fajitas drenched in a rich seafood sauce. Popular handcrafted drinks include: the JT Rita, premium Camarena Reposado tequila and orange liquor; the Banderita, layered strawberry and classic margarita, with melon liquor; and the off-themenu Watermelon Margarita, made with fresh watermelon puree.
Tex-Mex for the Holidays?
Johnny Tamales has a private dining room that comfortably seats 50-60 guests. They offer a whole restaurant buyout for even bigger parties. Dinner can be served buffet- or family-style. Off-site catering is available, including servers who set-up, serve, and clean up. Simple delivery and customer pick-up are also available. And margaritas are served by the half- or full-gallon.
Bring your family and friends in for good TexMex and a sense of belonging and community at Johnny Tamales.

A
hallmark of authentic Italian cuisine is its simplicity.” Papa Corelli
Ciao! I’m Papa Corelli. As Guiseppe Verdi famously said, “You may have the universe if I may have Italy!”
My neighborhood Italian eatery takes me back to those Italian roots … come to Corelli’s Italian Cafe for traditional, made-from-scratch specialties served on redcheckered tablecloths and piled high with fresh-grated parmesan cheese.
In Italy, food is more than just a way to supply our bodies with essential nutrients to stay healthy and grow. My restaurant’s amazingly fresh Italian food is something to be proud of. A hallmark of authentic Italian cuisine is its simplicity. And food is prominent in the ‘celebrazione’ of every occasion in Italy, especially the holidays! Lucky for Fort Bend, you don’t need a passport to partake in authentic Italian food this holiday season.
I love seeing our local friends and their families gather at my Corelli’s table for the fabulous entrees, including our mouth-watering lasagna. The spaghetti is my own special blend: spaghetti tossed with fresh homemade sugo rosa sauce that can be joined by Corelli’s famous meatballs. Just the right touch of pasta and protein!
We’ve been cooking up the best, madefrom-scratch Italian right here in Sugar Land for nearly three decades. For the carb-conscious, the Salmon Florentine hits the spot – it’s grilled salmon served on a bed of spinach with artichokes and sun-dried tomatoes with a white wine lemon butter sauce. Our pizza also has a
faithful following. Try the Corelli’s Special. It comes loaded with everything but the kitchen sink … Canadian bacon, pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, onion, bell pepper, mushroom and olives! Or you can build your own. When you’re ready for dessert, Corelli’s New York Style Cheesecake is a show stopper! Made in-house with Corelli’s very own recipe, it’s a lengthy labor of love.
Now that temperatures have cooled off, dining al fresco is perfect on the Corelli’s charming covered patio. Here, soft lighting and music meet Old World decor, complete with wisteria vines running up along the quaint archways. Very fit for a relaxed evening out.
Planning a holiday festa? Our quaint Corelli’s wine room is the perfect setting for your celebrazione! It can accommodate up to 28 people. Corelli’s will work with your budget to create an incredible experience for your private party guests. At Corelli’s, we love the holidays. It’s the best time of year!
Take it from me, Papa Corelli: Make your festa a full Italian dining experience at Corelli’s, right in the heart of Sugar Land.
Brewing Up a Great Time for a Great
by Alisha McMillen
“Awesome band. Exciting new location. Great food and fireworks.
All to honor the brave men and women who keep us safe every day,” say KK and S. Scott West of The West Law Firm, the presenting sponsor of second annual Red & Blue United – A Sugar Land First Responders Tribute. “Join us Friday, Oct. 25, at Talyard Brewing Co. for an evening filled with gratitude, community spirit, and celebration.”
“We are honored to once again chair this special event, where you can meet our local heroes, hear their stories, and discover how the Finest and Bravest Foundation makes a difference in how our police, fire, and EMS respond to our emergency needs,” the Wests continue.
This year’s entertainment is by nationallyrecognized supergroup SIXWIRE. They’ll perform at the new and inviting event destination, the Talyard Brewing Co., next to Constellation Field in Sugar Land. SIXWIRE
have performed on tour with Tim McGraw, Martina McBride, and Kenny Chesney, and have played at the AMAs and National Football League (NFL) draft, as well as many fundraising events, including St. Jude’s.
The event combines the efforts of two honorable organizations to make one super event. “Back the Blue and The Firefighters Gala joined efforts in 2023 to create ONE exciting event, raising funds and awareness for all of Sugar Land’s First Responders,” says Back the Blue co-founder Gary Becker, now VP of the Finest & Bravest Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization. “At Red & Blue
United, you’ll have the opportunity to meet some of our first responders and see their equipment.”
Sugar Land City Councilmember Suzanne Whatley, creator of The Firefighters Gala who serves as president of Finest & Bravest Foundation says, “Sugar Land’s first responders are the backbone of our community, tirelessly working to keep us safe. Your support helps fund life-saving equipment, education opportunities, and meet the urgent needs of our Finest & Bravest.”
All proceeds benefit the Sugar Land Police, Fire, and EMS.
“With the generous support from our community through the Red & Blue United Event, we deployed an innovative, on-site, whole blood program that allows our EMS to bring hospital-level medicine to the emergency where time is critical, making the difference between life and death,” says Assistant Fire Chief of Emergency Services Mark Campise.
Great Cause
“I have never seen a community support its first responders the way Sugar Land does,” said Police Chief Mark Poland. “Thanks to the Finest & Bravest Foundation, the Police department was able to enhance its cuttingedge technology drone program and its traffic unit’s accident investigation tools with the most up-to-date accident re-creation software, giving our officers a broad perspective while keeping them out of harm’s way in serving our Sugar Land citizens.”
“Embrace this opportunity to show our appreciation and support for the courageous men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and serving us all,” the Wests conclude. “Let’s show up for our First Responders the way they show up for us.

New Talyard Brewing Co. Encourages Togetherness
Keith Teague and Chuck Laughter are all about togetherness. Friends for 25 years, they met at the neighborhood pool at a meet-and-greet. “Our kids were in the same classes, cub scouts, and girl scouts together. They played on sports teams together. We vacation together, and now we’re in business together,” Chuck says. “Our wives are great friends, our kids are friends, and our grandkids have been together so much, they’re becoming friends.” With five kids and 16 grandkids between their two families, they have lots of chances to be together.
Keith, his wife Kristin, Chuck, and his wife Julie developed the idea of the Talyard Brewing Co. over fire pits in their backyards next door to each other. (Yes, they are even next-door neighbors since 2007!) “We love that backyard vibe – enjoying craft beer, while Chuck beats me at cornhole,” Keith says. “The idea with the brewery was to create the same backyard vibe.”
Talyard Brewing Co. sits on three and a half acres near Constellation Field in Sugar Land, where the Space Cowboys play. There’s a two-story tap room with 30-taps and casual community tables downstairs and another 20-taps with more intimate tables upstairs. The upstairs also boasts a private dining
room with a covered terrace that is secluded from the main dining area. The tap room is surrounded by multiple outdoor ‘hang-out’ areas, including a huge custom playground for the kids, cornhole games, pickleball courts, a stage for live music, TVs for watching your favorite teams, and countless picnic tables and adirondack chairs. The colors are bright and cheerful, making it a great place to bring your family – even the family dog is welcome!

There’s a full-service kitchen, pizza oven, and a big BBQ pit called The Black Pearl to satisfy your hunger. And they have plenty of beer choices, as well as non-alcoholic options, to wash everything down. “We have: hop-forward beers, like IPAs; German-style traditional beers, like Lagers and Kolsches; Ales, dark and golden in the English tradition; and Fruited Sours, which offer a bridge between beer and wine.” With posted slogans throughout the property like “Life is Meant to be Lived Together” and “Be Good to People,” the friends and business partners want everyone, employees and customers alike, to know these are the principles that drive their business. “This endeavor started as a project that turned into a business and eventually became our passion,” says Chuck. “We’re now fully open, so come join us in our backyard for some craft beer, from-scratch food, pickleball, cornhole, live music and a great ambiance.”

Sushi for Thanksgiving? Be Thankful for Umami Japanese Restaurant
by Alisha McMillen
With the upcoming holidays, many people are planning traditional menus of turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes. But why not serve sushi instead?
“We cater whatever the customer wants – sushi, rolls, appetizers – all plated to perfection. We have impressive party boats and platters,” says Jennifer Park, owner of Umami Japanese Restaurant on University. “Everything is made fresh to order. All of our sushi and hot dishes are perfectly curated by our chefs, who have been with us since we opened in 2021.”
Umami is known for its unique and upscale fish options. “We have fish flown in from Japan and Spain,” Jennifer says. “Many of our customers come for our unusual fish. Because we’re not originally from Texas, we bring diverse experience and knowledge to our sushi, rolls, and plated seafood dishes.” Jennifer and her husband Jin Youl, who runs local Hanguk Taekwondo, previously lived on the west coast and in Las Vegas.
“We see a lot of people celebrating anniversaries, birthdays, bridal parties, prom, and other special events because we’re more upscale, but still right in the neighborhood,” Jennifer explains. “We cater weddings and birthday parties, and offer private dining in our restaurant
for up to 70 guests.”
Diner favorites at Umami include the Pink Lady roll with spicy tuna, cilantro, Japanese yellowtail, serrano peppers, and citrus ponzu. Otoro is their most popular sushi, using the fattiest belly part of Spanish bluefin tuna.
Specialities from the land are also available. “Umami serves amazing Wagyu steaks and short ribs, delicious grilled chicken with veggies, tempura shrimp and veggies, and appetizers like brussels sprouts, calamari, and coconut shrimp tempura,” Jennifer says.
Residents of Missouri City with two children, Jennifer and Jin have settled into our quiet suburb well. “People are different in Texas – they’re much kinder than people in Las Vegas. We’re in a great community for raising our children,” she says. “Umami is just a family-owned, local business offering casual fine dining in your neighborhood. You can come in shorts, but still feel like you’re dining in an upscale, downtown restaurant.”
Make this year’s holiday feasts unique for your family and friends. Call Umami and get on their calendar today.

Fast & Furious Fun for Veterans
It’s a simple plan with a lot of logistics … a day designed for our community’s veterans to have a great experience doing something new and exciting.
“It’s their day to have fun,” says Bill Hoffman, president of the Corvette Owners Club of Houston, a 501(c) organization with 170 members representing 230 Corvettes. Bill created the club’s Vettes for Vets experience 15 years ago, thanks to “Sarge.”
“Sarge was an older gentleman who spent years as a gunner in the Marines,” Bill explains. “We learned there were things Sarge wanted to do that he couldn’t. We decided to create a program to give vets a great day, no strings attached, and Sarge was able to attend the first two years.”
This year, Vettes for Vets partnered with Combat Marine Outdoors (CMO) who invited their veterans to participate. The event was held Saturday, Sept. 7.
“We met in Sugar Land Town Square, where we paired a veteran passenger with a Corvette and its driver. We all caravanned to the Motor Speedway Resort of Houston. Drivers took their passengers around the track for six to eight laps, followed by lunch in the Drivers’ Meeting Room. Since the beginning, Joe’s BBQ in Alvin has provided lunch for the veterans. Joe is a veteran and knows how important it is to treat our veterans with kindness and gratitude,” Bill continues.
This year, the event had 28 Corvettes and veterans rounding the
track. Bill drove his own 2016 Z06/Z07 Corvette. “Ninety-nine percent of the veterans had never ridden in a Corvette before,” says David Alexander, Fixed Operations Director for Classic Chevrolet. “It makes each veteran feel like they’re part of something. It’s one of the best types of service we can provide in our community – giving our veterans a day of enjoyment that makes them feel like the person they want to be.”
Classic also provides an SUV that caravans with the group holding the veterans’ caregivers and necessary medical equipment. “We also have two EMT squads waiting, in case they’re needed,” Bill says.
“We took Classic Chevy’s Z06 model, along with a standard Corvette,” says Garner Anderson, Corvette manager at Classic Chevrolet. “My veteran and I shared life stories and enjoyed the ride together. We owe our veterans any little thing we can do to make their day better.”
Also a Corvette manager, Aaron Strand, an Army veteran himself says, “It’s good for our community to know we’re responsible for our veterans. Unfortunately, a lot of our vets feel forgotten. If you can be an ear and have a little fun – that little contribution can make a big difference.”
“I couldn’t do this every year without my dedicated sponsors Classic Chevrolet and Sugar Land Town Square,” Bill concludes. For more information about Vettes for Vets or the Corvette Owners Club of Houston, visit www.corvetteownersclubhouston.com.

Let’s Learn More About Dental Implants
A permanent solution for your missing tooth
by Amy Sharp
In recent years, dental implants have become a very popular alternative to traditional implants and bridges. Dr. Thomas Lomonte, D.D.S. in Stafford says, “Once you have a missing tooth, your other teeth will start to gravitate to the open areas to fill the gap...which leads to a domino effect and misalignment. With a success rate of over 95%, dental implants are an excellent choice for replacing your missing teeth.”
A dental implant consists of three separate parts: the body, the abutment, and the porcelain crown. Dr. Lomonte explains, “The body is the implant itself. It’s a titanium screw that goes into the jaw bone to replace the root of your tooth. Titanium is used for dental implants because it’s lightweight and extremely durable. It’s also biocompatible, which means that it’s very rarely rejected by the human body. After the titanium implant is placed in the jaw, it takes about three months for the bone to grow to the implant. This creates a sturdy platform that can support a prosthetic tooth or teeth.”
Once the implant has fully stabilized, the abutment is put into place. “The abutment is the toothlike connector between the implant post and your new crown,” continues Dr. Lomonte. “In most cases, we can place a false crown until the permanent crown is fabricated. Your permanent crown is then glued in. We can do single tooth crowns, or up to three unit bridges to replace consecutive missing teeth on a single implant.”
Dental implants are a great option if you’re missing teeth. “But they aren’t the only option,” says Dr. Lomonte. “We have many different ways to replace teeth: permanent bridgework, partial dentures, and dentures that are connected to implants. They can be permanently screwed in or snapped in. Come in and let us check your teeth and gums. We’ll see what works for you!”

Is real estate investing through Five Buffalo Capital for you? Kristina Chervenka, the fund’s COO and co-founder, is leading workshops to inform you on the potential opportunity to do so!
“Our goal is to educate investors… to get to know them and see if we’re a good fit for their investment plan,” Kristina explains. Five Buffalo Capital sponsors a 506(c) fund, restricted to Accredited Investors. “It’s for people who want to be in real estate, but don’t want the responsibilities of sole ownership,” she says.
Kristina and her husband, Dustin, Five Buffalo’s CEO and co-founder, will hold their next event on Thursday evening October 24 in Houston. “We will let our attendees know who we are, and why we believe we’re qualified to work for you,” Kristina continues. “We’ll show you why we’re different… we’ll share our ‘secret sauce.’”
Five Buffalo held their last educational session at the Rosenberg Railroad Museum in August. “When people sign up, we verify that they’re qualified investors before they attend,” Kristina explains. “Potential investors have
brought their attorneys, financial planners, or CPAs with them so they can also learn about our fund.”
“We’ll feed you yummy food too! We serve heavy appetizers as we know many people will be coming straight from work,” Kristina says. “You can learn about what we do at Five Buffalo and even set a meeting time to discuss plans with us more formally at an upcoming meeting.”
They also offer extensive webinars online that thoroughly cover the information. “We just have to have a one-on-one conversation first to confirm they’re accredited – there’s an easy tool to determine that – and then they can view the webinar on their own timeline.”
As for the fund itself, it pools a group of investors to buy at scale. “While all investments have risk, the beauty is there are multiple assets within the fund and if something unforeseen happens, the risk is spread out. Your liability is limited to what you put in,” Kristina says.
Sign up for the October 24 event at www.fivebuffalocapital.com/events. Learn why investing in multi-family properties might be right for you.
All investments have risk. This is not a solicitation for investment.

If the lead-tainted water crisis in Flint, Michigan, taught us anything, it’s that the water we drink, cook with, and bathe in is a public health issue of the greatest importance. One organization cited Houston last year as one of the American cities facing water concerns after a number of unprecedented boil water notices in 2020, 2021, and 2022 due to water main breaks and power outages at water treatment facilities.
For centuries, humankind has found itself wholly dependent on having access to safe, potable H20. So who bears the responsibility for bringing us safe water in the 21st century?
Plumbers, of course!
Antibiotics and the polio vaccine have certainly saved lives. But the creation of piping systems for delivering clean water and removing waste from dwellings has saved countless more. Plumbing is a hazardous job. Your knees swell from working in tight crawl spaces, dragging numerous heavy tools behind you. You often breathe in toxic fumes, and some of the machinery required can cause serious injury. It takes real courage and a heroic sense of public safety to do this critically vital work.
Nobody understands this better than master plumber Alan Burkhalter and his three sons, Beau, Luke, and Jake...all of whom have worked with their dad at Alan’s Plumbing. He explains, “I taught them everything I know about plumbing, transparency in pricing, and professionalism. But I also taught them how to work safely. Double wrenching on pipes and fittings all day can cause all kinds of physical problems. It’s tough work, but it’s truly rewarding. We know exactly what’s at stake when we go on a job – your family’s health and safety, and our own. Being a master plumber is a lot more involved than unclogging toilets and unstopping drains.”
As the nation’s first line of defense in protecting health and sanitation, plumbers are on call holidays and weekends. This requires a huge commitment to the public they serve. “At Alan’s Plumbing, we have a long tradition of customer service,” Alan continues. “Unlike the big chains, we are actual residents of the neighborhoods we serve. We’ve lived in the area for a long time. All three of my boys graduated from Elkins High School.” Alan’s dynamic crew includes longtime plumbers Jaime, Christian, Anthony, and Nick, with Jennifer running the back office, assisted by longtime family friend Katie, plus Katy (with a y) as the voice behind the phones.
With community roots comes a strong sense of accountability to the community at large. When you choose a local, independent plumbing company like Alan’s Plumbing, not only are you getting great service and fair, upfront pricing, you’re also investing in Fort Bend. That’s expert affordable service from a company that lives its values of public safety and dedication. That’s Alan’s Plumbing.
FROM WALKER to WORKOUTS
by Alisha McMillen
“Ihave four grandchildren (ages seven through 11) and I had such debilitating back pain, I couldn’t do anything for them,” says Samia Abushaaban. “They were so sweet, they would bring me ice packs or glasses of water. They were taking care of me.”
When Samia met Dr. Brazzell, she was barely able to walk, and was using a walker to get around. She had already tried acupuncture and had visited multiple physicians. “I didn’t want pain killers … I wanted to solve the problem,” she explains. “Dr. Brazzell worked wonders. He really knows what he’s doing.”
A combination of non-surgical spinal decompression, adjustments, soft tissue work, and therapeutic exercise helped Samia get back up and walking. “She’s so joyful,” Dr. Brazzell says. “It’s great to see her doing life again. She’s already transitioned to active care, attending the gym and walking.”
After serving the Sugar Land area for more than five years, Dr. Brazzell and his wife, Sophie, opened their practice, Revive Chiropractic and Performance, on Sweetwater Blvd.
“We specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of neck pain, back pain, joint pain, sciatica, disc problems, headaches, peripheral neuropathy, car accident injuries, sport injuries and more,” says Dr. Brazzell.
Revive Chiropractic and Performance offers a variety of effective and gentle adjustment techniques, soft tissue work, non-surgical spinal decompression, shockwave therapy, spinal rehabilitation, electrical therapy, nutrition, and massage therapy.
“I couldn’t move. I couldn’t walk. I couldn’t do anything,” Samia says. “But after seeing Dr. Brazzell, I’m sitting comfortably, able to take my grandkids to lunch, walking comfortably, and I’m driving again!”
Dr Brazzell concludes, “Come see us and you’ll Revive and Thrive!”
for Grandma and Granddaughter Beautiful Bathroom Updates
by Alisha McMillen
For Michelle E. Morgan, when the time came to pick a contractor to remodel her two upstairs bathrooms, “There was no question who we would use. I’d worked with Teri (Gilberg, the Re-Modelista) on a previous job and I knew if there were any issues – which always occur in construction – they’d be fixed,” Michelle says.
Michelle and her family recently moved into a pre-owned Fort Bend County home. She lives with her 18-year-old daughter Laney, her mother Janice, her husband of three years Greg, and her three toy poodles. “Bless Greg’s heart, he has the patience of Job.”
Going through a construction project requires that patience. Teri has it too. “I run 90 to nothing and Teri is so calm. She would just tell me: ‘Stop worrying. I got it,’” Michelle continues. “And I could just take a deep breath and relax.”
Michelle focused first on the two upstairs bathrooms to keep the ‘girls’ happy. “Laney is so excited to have grandma living with her … the two of them have the funniest relationship,” Michelle laughs.
The entire water closet was re-tiled floor-to-ceiling in Janice’s bathroom, with new cabinets with feminine glass and crystal knobs. In Laney’s Jack-and-Jill bathroom, they chose the same cabinets and granite, but different hardware and lights. Both floors are wood-look tile and all three sink areas are anchored by antique mirrors from Janice’s home. “Since we’re condensing two homes into one, we picked our favorite things to bring to this house,” Michelle says.
Because Laney has cerebral palsy, Michelle and Teri made some intentional decisions in the design to make it easier for her. “We installed a big bench and a huge toiletries nook higher up on the wall. The nook is big enough to hold all of Laney’s girly stuff, and she doesn’t have to pile everything on a bench any more,” Michelle explains. “We needed a lowlip on the shower and we installed a magnetic shower wand with an easy release. We also raised the countertops.”
Michelle loves the layout of the tile in the bathrooms. “In the shower stalls, the tile work is like art.

The contractor dumped the whole box and would mixand-match it until it looked great. I never saw him take a break,” she continues.
Working with Teri was easy and fast. “Teri finished the job early, thanks to her organization and great subcontractors,” Michelle says. “Once mom is moved in, I plan to update the primary bath room too, using the Re-Modelista, of course.”

“Hello Human Kindness” Practicing Human Kindness at St. Luke’s Sugar Land
by Alisha
One of St. Luke’s Sugar Land’s slogans is “Hello Human Kindness.” The hospital seeks out practitioners with those same values. And none display those values more than the Aly brothers, Dr. Salman and Dr. Sarfraz of Capital Associates.
“Dr. (Salman) Aly and our hospital have a truly collaborative relationship,” says Hospital President of St. Luke’s HealthSugar Land Hospital, Steven Foster. “We work together to create comprehensive care for our shared patients. He’s been a medical staff member with St. Luke’s for more than 10 years and we have developed a great system for patient care.”
The brothers are very visible throughout the St. Luke’s Sugar Land system. “Dr. (Salman) Aly is a part of our staff. He has contributed to policies and procedures,” Steven says. “He’s an active voice in our hospital. He’s engaged as a medical staff member. Both brothers are.”
Some patients arrive in the ER, some from nursing homes and some directly from Capital Associates in Sugar Land. “When Dr. Salman and Dr. Sarfraz determine their patients need to be hospitalized, they can authorize direct admission, which allows their patients to bypass the ER for faster admission. Plus they’re the in-house physicians completing rounds on their own patients,” Steven says. “The arrangement
allows for full continuity of care. The Aly brothers manage patient care pre-hospital, post-hospital and in-hospital.”
“Dr. (Salman) Aly is so connected with so many community members,” Steven continues. Dr. (Salman) Aly says, “My brother and I grew up in New Territory and graduated from Clements High School. We love serving the people of the community where we grew up. We are raising our families here. Our mosque is here. Our community is here.”
The brothers share offices in Sugar Land, Wharton, Telfair, and Bay City (and coming soon to Aliana), representing four different practices: Capital Internal Medicine Associates; Capital Infectious Disease Associates; The Wound Docs (Capital Advanced Wound Care); and Allure Aesthetics.
“Both brothers develop relationships with their patients. It is about more than just the required family history,” Steven says. “They know the before, the after, and the during phases for their patients, allowing them to develop the right treatment plan quickly.”
“Dr. (Salman) Aly practices human kindness,” Steven concludes. “There’s something special about him. I’ve been in healthcare for 24 years and I’ve not met another entrepreneurial doctor like him. He really cares.”
