So What is Pediatric Therapy? by Amy Sharp edCare Pediatric Therapy and Nursing provides comprehensive therapy and nursing services to children age birth to 21 years. As Vice President of Rehab Services, Sommer LaShomb supervises more than 50 therapists across five locations day in and day out that are making a difference in the lives of children with specific needs. So what exactly do these therapists do? “Many people think of recovery from an injury or accident when they think of therapy,” says Sommer. “But in pediatrics, we don’t necessarily mean recover. Many of these kids were born with a disability. Through physical, occupational and/or speech therapy, we are teaching them to adapt to Vice President of Rehab Services Sommer LaShomb working with 18-year-old Juan the world with the challenges they were born with.” during aquatic therapy at MedCare. “When we think about physical therapy, we often think about walking,” continues Sommer. “But it's not just learning to walk. It’s walking with the appropriate pattern. Some kids are stronger on one side of the body than the other. We teach them how to walk using the strong parts of their body. Physical therapy incorporates postural control and use of core muscles to sit, stand, even crawl. We teach use of equipment—wheelchairs, walkers and standers—when appropriate. For our stronger kids, we are refining higher level skills—dribbling a ball, riding a bike, swimming. We are teaching balance and coordination to help these kids keep up with their peers.” Occupational therapy is working with kids to engage in their sole occupation: Play! “Paying attention and cause and effect,” says Sommer. “We want these kids to be able to take turns and play with others. Skills like tying shoes, brushing teeth and hair, getting dressed—including buttons and zippers—are also taught in occupational therapy. We build hand strength and work on fine motor skills like cutting, writing, catching and throwing, stacking blocks and stringing beads. For kids that do not function typically to touch, light or sound, we teach them how to regulate their bodies and accommodate when they are getting too much sensory stimulation or too little.” And speech therapy...“It’s speech of course,” says Sommer. “And so much more. It’s understanding and forming words and sentences. It’s auditory processing. The social piece is big—eye contact, taking turns, and engaging in appropriate conversation. And for kids that are not yet ready to speak, it’s strengthening the necessary muscles for the future.”

Research has shown that early intervention is key. “The earlier we can remedy or teach a child to work with his/her body, the more likely they are to be independent and successful. If you feel your child is not developing appropriately for their age, I encourage you to schedule a global assessment of skills. Even if your doctor says wait...don’t. The consultation is free and only takes 10-15 minutes. You might just get peace of mind...or you might be starting the path to crucial early intervention. Either way, you’ve done the right thing.” MedCare co-founder Paige Kinkade adds, “Our singular motive is to help children. We accept Medicaid and will work with any insurance company. If you feel your child might benefit from our services, we would love the opportunity to earn your trust. We are here to help!” MedCare Pediatric Group, LP 713-995-9292 12371 S. Kirkwood Rd. Planting Her Feet in Fulshear

F

ulshear Foot and Ankle owner Dr. Jeanna Mascorro knew she wanted to be a doctor in junior high. She says, “I knew I wanted to help people, I just wasn’t sure what specialty.” In high school, she was part of a clinical rotation program and a member of HOSA (Health Occupation Students of America). “I was able to do rotations in every area of our local hospital, so I was exposed to every specialty. I knew I wanted to do surgery, but I also knew I really wanted to be a mom in the future. The foot doctor set his own schedule...I thought I could really make that work.” After receiving her Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine at Barry University in Miami, and completing her surgical residency at Kingwood Medical Center: Greater Texas Education Foundation, Dr. Mascorro took a job in Katy and moved to Fulshear with her husband and college sweetheart Patric about five years ago. “We love that Fulshear is more laid back, removed from the hustle and bustle. I wanted to open a practice here and find that work-home balance. I was working really long hours in Katy and didn’t have much time for family.” Then a friend from high school—a HOSA friend—passed away at age 30. “That was my turning point. I wanted to help people, and I

also wanted be there for my three kids. It’s a hard balance...but I knew with an office near my home it was possible.” And Fulshear Foot and Ankle was born. At her Texas-themed office, this Texas girl treats all foot pain, including ingrown toenails, toenail fungus, heel pain, ankle sprains, ankle fractures, sports injuries and limb salvage for diabetic patients. Fulshear Foot and Ankle also sells the very supportive Vionic shoes on-site, available for purchase to the public and with HSA funds with a medical prescription. Board Certified in Podiatric Medicine, Dr. Mascorro is a member of the Fulshear Area Chamber of Commerce, and sponsors a plethora of sports teams and organizations in the Fulshear and Katy Area. She is also a current sponsor of HOSA at Fulshear High School, helping set up opportunities similar to what she had in high school. “People should know that foot pain is not normal,” adds Dr. Mascorro. “We offer both surgical and non-surgical treatments for patients of all ages.” Fulshear Foot and Ankle accepts most insurance plans, give them a call for an appointment today! udiologist Dr. Mary Sue Harrison of Today’s Hearing and her husband and dentist Dr. Tommy Harrison are in the same building on Kingsland Blvd. Their two businesses share a front office and waiting room, where their daughter Jill Bennett happens to work. And since about 1990, this family-owned operation has depended on True Fix A/C & Heating...another Katy familyowned and operated business. Dr. Mary Sue Harrison says, “They take care of our home and our business A/C, my daughter’s house, and they took care of my parents’ home. We like them because they not only sell excellent products, they really take care of you and they’re honest. There’s no pushy sales...they’re just ethical. My parents had a really old A/C. They patched it for us for a few years...until we were ready to put in a new A/C. And the service at True Fix is amazing. My daughter’s house flooded, so she and her family were coming to stay with us. They were on their way when we discovered our upstairs A/C was not working. I called True Fix. The owner, Gerald Svetlik, and his wife Kim were on their way home from an anniversary getaway to the Hill Country. Gerald dropped Kim off and came straight to our house and got our A/C going. Then he sent a member of his crew the next day to do a permanent fix.“ True Fix is built on the philosophy of great service coupled with a great product. “That’s why we are teamed up with Trane,” says Gerald. “The engineers at TRANE are the brilliant minds behind TruComfort technology...which takes a precision approach to cooling your home. The Trane XV20i gives you precise comfort by running at the exact capacity needed to keep your home comfortable. This allows the compressor, outdoor fan, and indoor fan to vary operating speed...saving you a ton of money when temperatures are at their highest. Customers rave about how these systems are remarkably quiet and extremely effective at removing humidity.” And with special financing and rebates available up to $1,500 (while supplies last), now is an excellent time to think about a new Trane system! Dr. Tommy Harrison has been practicing dentistry in Katy since 1979. Dr. Mary Sue Harrison opened Today’s Hearing in 1986. True Fix A/C & Heating was founded in 1972. “We all started in Katy and then Katy started growing,” says Dr. Harrison. “Gerald and True Fix have been our go-to guys for years. enee Regenbrecht’s lips were really wrinkled. “And they were getting worse as I got older,” says Renee. Renee scheduled a consultation with Lexie Barton, FNP at Vitality Health & Wellness for Restylane® lip enhancement. Restylane® is specifically formulated to act like your body’s own naturally produced hyaluronic acid, helping to visibly correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. It’s FDA-approved and uniquely formulated to give lips fullness and definition. “I didn’t want them bigger or plumper,” continues Renee. “Just smoother. And that’s exactly what Lexie did for me. I just look more fresh and I feel better about myself. Lexie takes a minimalist approach, and I love that. Plus, she’s straight-forward and easy to talk to... and she knows a lot about her products.” Lexie and co-owner Lindsey Crow have worked hard to build a business that is a one-stop shop. In addition to Restylane®, they offer bioidentical hormone replacement, home BOTOX® parties, Dysport® and JUVÉDERM® fillers, sclerotherapy for varicose veins, KYBELLA® for double chin, Rezenerate facials, IV therapy, waxing, spray tans and multiple weight loss options. “Our passion is helping our clients feel their best,” says Lindsey. “If you call and inquire about a service, we don’t just tell you how much it costs and put you on the schedule. Lexie explains everything to you, either over the phone or in a personal consultation. And all services are administered by Lexie, a Family Nurse Practitioner with many years of critical care experience.” “I’m very happy,” says Renee. “I also took my mom to Vitality. She had puffy, dark circles under her eyes, which Lexie filled with Restylane® as well. She’s thrilled with her results too. Raising Highly Capable Kids

by Amy Sharp n their continued commitment to this community, Fulshear’s Family Hope has implemented “Raising Highly Capable Kids”—a once a week 10 week class where parents learn tools and skills to help their children succeed. Years ago, Search Institute of Minneapolis identified 40 building blocks of healthy development—known as Developmental Assets—that help young children grow up healthy, caring, and responsible. “Raising Highly Capable Kids” is partially based on these 40 Assets. Executive Director of Family Hope Dr. Dale Olson says, “One asset is to help kids find ways to serve the community. Another is to have a caring

adult around to encourage them. The more of these assets a child has, the more of a chance they will succeed in life. We show parents how to include these assets in their kids’ daily lives.” Family Hope’s parenting class also incorporates the research of Dr. Dana Suskind, Pediatric Surgeon at The University of Chicago Medicine. In her work with cochlear implants, Dr. Suskind discovered the importance of parents using words, especially in the first three years of life. She found two ways of parenting: One type of parent used short command words like, “Sit down. Be quiet.” Other parents used more words to explain their wishes, like, “We need to get our coat on because today we will visit your aunt.” Research showed a difference in 30 million words between the two parenting styles. Dr. Olson says, “Parents can actually increase the intelligence of their children just by the amount of words they use. We teach parents to use more words to explain behaviors. And of course...read to your children.” Dr. Olson and his wife Alene have devoted their lives to ministry. Dr. Olson has been called to both start congregations and reach out to others as he does with Family Hope. “I love my job. I love to connect people, help people, improve Third Annual life.” Alene teaches piano lessons at the couple’s Family Hope home (one of the 40 Assets!) and is a chaplain Gala for David Weekley Homes. A Degree, A New Perspective and An Unexpected Opportunity

A

fter Heidi Duty graduated from high school, she did three years of college at a state school. “Then I got married and had babies.” Fast forward nearly 20 years, and it’s time for those babies to go to college. Heidi says, “For years I worked as an estimator for my husband’s company, Duty Construction. Now I own my own business, Duty and Daughters, where we do estimating services, brokering of construction materials, project management and project consultation. I’ve never had a need for a degree. But as my daughters got older, I started hearing things like, ‘Dad’s an engineer, what are you?’ I did not want them to think it was ok to just go to college for a little while. I wanted them to know it’s much easier at 19 and 20 than at 40...and that it’s easier on Mom and Dad’s dime. So I decided to teach by example. I would finish my degree.” Heidi chose Belhaven University because it fit her needs. “I could continue my work, and do one class at a time. A class is once a week for five weeks and I earn nine credit hours each semester. I chose to major in Interdisciplinary Studies, concentrating in Psychology, Communications and Biblical Studies. This choice made best use of my previous college hours.” And Heidi’s plan not only worked, she has experienced unexpected benefits. “My daughters see me writing papers and studying for exams. I’ve had to skip track meets because I needed to study. They see the sacrifice I’m making. I never really thought I would be graduating, but here I am...with both a degree and two other blessings. First, I always thought Christian schools were the same as state schools...just more expensive. Belhaven has changed my perspective of what I want for my children. In my English classes, we compare literature to the Bible, not the secular world. I want that for my children and I will pay for a Christian school. Second, for an independent studies course I organized a girl’s retreat for my church—Creekside Christian Fellowship in Needville. Now the church has approached me about organizing a women’s Bible study and ministry. It’s my opportunity to give back, and it’s a door that would not have opened if it wasn’t for Belhaven!” The programs at Belhaven deliver accelerated adult education and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees that are tailored to the needs of busy working adults.“The college graduation rate is around 50%,” says Heidi. “So I know there are a lot of people out there that didn’t finish like me. If you’re 30, 40, 50. whatever...you can do this. This program is built specifically for us. I have one class to go and I will graduate on May 5th! I’m a huge fan of Belhaven!”

enise Cox and her husband Owen are Operations Managers at Woodlands Elite Cheer Company - Katy Location. “We coach a lot of fantastic kids here in Katy,” says Denise. “And we had the joy of coaching Dr. Kim Forrest’s girls.” Last summer when Denise’s daughters needed orthodontic work, she scheduled a consultation at Dr. Forrest’s office, Forrest Orthodontics. “It’s an extremely kid friendly atmosphere the moment you walk in,” says Denise. “There’s always a movie on the big screen and fresh cookies available. The entire office is kid-oriented...just eyes wide open for a child. I like that because I work in a kid industry too...so how kids are taken care of is important to me. I’ve been to other dentist and orthodontist offices that appeared sterile and hospital like. I had to ask if they even work with children! Making kids feel welcome is crucial. It’s what we strive for at Woodlands Elite...and Forrest Orthodontics has really knocked it out of the park!” Kids love the atmosphere at Forrest Orthodontics and parents love the expert care. Dr. Forrest has received numerous awards for his research in orthodontics, published articles on surgical orthodontics, and holds several patents. “One of my kids was in really bad shape,” says Denise. “Dr. Forrest gave several options and helped me choose. I appreciated that the whole process was really laid back and I never felt pressured. That same feeling extends throughout his staff. We just really feel at home there. The best word to describe this place friendly...and Dr. Forrest is just fun. We love it.” Want to see this kid-oriented oasis that provides expert orthodontic care for yourself? out on the office open bay. Dr. Forrest says, “I want my new patients to see exactly what goes on in the office, and this way they also know what to expect during treatment.” And of course, there’s fun too. When it’s time for braces to go on, Dr. Forrest invites you to five minutes at the Candy Bar to eat as much candy as you can...because once the braces go on, candy is a no-no. But never fear...you get to revisit the candy bar once the braces come off! “Many of our athletes at Woodlands Elite are also patients of Dr. Forrest,” says Denise. “My son will be starting treatment soon. They take care of kids the way I believe kids should be taken care of. We recommend Forrest Orthodontics all the time!” Forrest Orthodontics 281-392-4571 23922 Cinco Village Center Blvd, Suite 250 Katy, TX 77494 www.forrestortho.com

icki Brownewell, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer at Houston Methodist West Hospital, has been in nursing for nearly 40 years. “I moved to Houston in 1982 and worked at another hospital. In 2000, I moved to Houston Methodist as VP of Operations in the Texas Medical Center and started the new millennium.” Seven years ago, Vicki opened the doors of our own Houston Methodist West. The Houston Methodist system is built on I CARE values: Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence. Vicki says, “These values are at the core of our system, they’re not just published and forgotten. They permeate everything we do, because when you’re committed to the values, it makes a difference. Our evaluations and hiring are based on them.” The I CARE values drive Vicki’s passionate commitment to a patient and family-centered philosophy of care, and a model of shared governance. “We cannot forget the patients and families. Our buildings and processes are designed around them. Here in Katy, we have a diverse community. Our aim is to meet the needs of this community in our buildings, our staff and our clinicians. And it’s a lot of fun to learn about our different cultures!” Shared governance means the decision making and accountability is shared between management and staff. “Management has the knowledge,” says Vicki. “But our staff is on the front lines. They help write policies, develop processes, know what supplies need to be where and how scheduling needs to be done. Management depends on their feedback to make improvements. Shared governance isn’t just nursing; a hospital is like a small town, with facilities, finance, security and clinicians. Our shared governance committees are comprised of representatives from each department, bringing diverse and cohesive ideas to the table. Our philosophies come together with our Patient and Family Advisory Council, which includes ad hoc members from the community based on the topic. Together, we are constantly raising the bar.” And it’s working. Houston Methodist West is one of the youngest hospitals in the country to receive the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Pathway to Excellence® designation, granted to healthcare organizations that create work environments where nurses can flourish. The designation supports the professional satisfaction of nurses and identifies best places to work. Next on Vicki’s list? The gold standard: Magnet Recognition®. It’s the highest and most prestigious distinction a healthcare organization can receive for nursing excellence and high-quality patient care…and has only been earned by 8% of U.S. hospitals. Vicki says, “Magnet is my dream, my vision. It’s a validation of excellence in patient care and a fantastic work environment for our staff. It takes many years and many processes need to be in place first, but we are well on our way!” In her free time, Vicki enjoys traveling and going out to dinner with her husband, adult sons and their wives. “We enjoy trying foods from all around the world. My husband and sons all studied engineering, and one daughter-in-law worked as a nurse and the other a doctor. So there can be a lot of engineer and medicine talk when we go out!”

r. and Mrs. Dale Mueller hadn’t done much remodeling. So when they decided to put in a new shower, Dale looked to a home design website to find contractors. “I got four bidders online,” says Dale. “In the meantime, my wife was shopping for tile for the shower. She stopped into Lone Star Floors, just around the corner from our house. When she explained what she was looking for, she learned they also remodel

showers. The manager of the store offered to come over right then to take a look and bid on the job.” While the Lone Star bid wasn’t the lowest, they were the only bidder that itemized. Dale says, “I had created my own list of what I thought needed to be done. Lone Star’s bid included all of those things and others I hadn’t thought of. Though some of the other bids were lower...I figured they would come back during construction and say unexpected things popped up and raise the price. The itemized bid made me feel very comfortable about what I was paying for.” A Lone Star crew of two showed up on time on the day the Mueller’s project started. “They just got to work, and they worked hard...through lunch some of the days. One was quite the craftsman, I’m very pleased with his work. The other helped out in every way possible. To protect our carpets, they laid out mats and rolled them up at night so they weren’t in our way. We did have a few surprises, and needed to adjust the design on the run. But they worked with me and no extra cost was added. I was very pleased with

their attitude on that. We also came up two tiles short and they had to be ordered...but everything was still finished on schedule.” “We are quite pleased with the result. I’ve never had a glass shower before...so I’m still getting used to squeegeeing it every morning at the request of my wife! But it looks great. I recommend Lone Star Floors. Actually, I’m planning to have them do new carpet for us in the future.”

Reasonable and Phenomenal

art and Suzanne Oshman have known Deborah Baustista, owner of Tista’s Fine Furniture & Mattresses, for many, many years. “I used to sell cars with her,” says Hart, General Manager at West Houston Infiniti. “But home design is her forte if you ask me!” The Oshmans should know, Deborah designed their living room, dining room and Hart’s trophy room. Suzanne says, “Deborah is so sweet. She can take a conversational piece and design a room around it. And her range is wide. She does traditional, eclectic, modern... anything! She just has a way of pulling things together. In our living room, Hart really wanted a western theme—leather, cowhide and animal rugs. But I wasn’t so sure. Deborah designed a French country look with a western motif and it looks fantastic. She’s just awesome!” “Even if you have no idea what you want, Deborah can help,” continues Suzanne. “She goes through pictures—getting an idea of what you like—and works from there. And she takes a ton of time with you, treats you like family. When my daughter moved into an apartment, we sent Deborah the floor plan and she designed a sectional to fit without ever setting foot in the place! If you’re remodeling, she can help redesign your house, room by room. I had the privilege of seeing Deborah’s new home. It’s just beautiful. She designed around heirloom furniture that was precious to her. The result is phenomenal!” “Not only is she amazing, she’s also kind and fair. She works with people that have a budget of $5000 and people

that have a budget of $750,000. It doesn’t matter...the result is absolutely fantastic. And if your furniture doesn’t hold up or it malfunctions, she’s always on your side. You are her top priority.” “My job is to take your dream and make it a reality!” says Deborah. “Design is my passion, but pleasing you is my guarantee. I love that Hart and Suzanne are so pleased!” Deborah does free in-home consultations, which include interior painting ideas, window treatments, art, mirrors, furniture and rugs. “Best quality at the best price is how we guarantee happy clients. At Tista’s Fine Furniture, we have over 160 vendors, so we are sure to find exactly what works in your home and your budget!” In Hart’s trophy room, Deborah arranged his hunting trophy heads and selected a desk, chair and rug to complete the room. “It’s great!” says Hart. “I just trust Deborah and believe her when she makes selections for our home. And her prices are reasonable to boot. I recommend her in a heartbeat!”

Even Your Kids Will Agree With You!

he longer you’ve been around, the more you begin to realize that adults and kids see the world differently. For instance, your kids think going to the dentist is an occasion for whining and foot dragging. You, on the other hand, know how essential it is to their health. Your kids think jumping off the roof into the pool is awesome. You experience heart palpitations even imagining it. See? Different. But Dr. Faisal M. Khan, DDS of Grand Parkway Pediatric Dental has a long and illustrious track record for making both kids and parents happy. As far as credentials go, Dr. Khan is at the top of his game—he graduated from the prestigious New York University College of Dentistry. He did a residency at Jacobi Medical Center where he was Chief Resident, and a Fellowship in Special Needs Dentistry at Albert Einstein Medical School. Dr. Khan is one of our area’s few Board Certified Pediatric Dentists. His office was named an OpenCare “Patients’ Choice” winner for 2016. Now, all that might make you happy, but let’s face it—it’s not going to mean much to your kids. What your kids will love to the point of actually begging you to take them to see Dr. Khan is his office, which is a children’s paradise! The waiting room is bursting with toys, games, a movie and all kinds of exciting nooks to explore. Your kids will adore having their teeth examined on a surfboard in the “Surfer” room. Treatments are done in the “Dolphin Cove” or the “Turtle Room.” “A dentist office doesn’t have to be institutional,” says Dr. Khan. “I have

Together, we come up with a solution for you.” medications aren’t Diagnosing a hormone imbalance generally starts with a working!” saliva test. “Once the test is prescribed, we educate you on the test and send it home. Then the results come back to me. If it is a hormone imbalance...what’s happening is completely normal and you’re fine! We can help!” No one knows for sure why some women experience hormone imbalance, but it does seem some women are genetically predisposed. If your mother struggled through menopause, you might as well. And just like hormone imbalance is different for every woman, so is its treatment. At Katy Pharmacy, through the science of compounding they create a medicine in the exact dosage needed based on your test results. “Hormone imbalance is not a one size fits all,” explains Dr. Attalla. “We tailor medication to each patient. Hormone delivery dosage forms include flavored lozenges, creams and capsules. My first choice is lozenges... because absorption through the mucous membranes of the mouth is really good. In this form, the medicine goes right to your bloodstream. But if that doesn’t work for you, creams and capsules are also available.” Maybe you’ve heard bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is very expensive? “It’s true, many insurance companies don’t cover it. But it doesn’t have to cost thousands

either! Hormone replacement therapy can be affordable. We work with you to make you feel your very best.” Katy Pharmacy is accredited by the Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board. That means they are held to continuous compliance with the highest standards in the industry. All powders and formulas for compounding are from PCCA, the grandfather of providing high-quality products to compounding pharmacies. Your Katy Pharmacy team of women— including Dr. Attalla, Anna, Rachal, Gabby, Cynthia, Kassy, Isabel and Dr. Attalla’s daughter, Julie—is the cream of the crop in compounding. “We demand and expect dignity, integrity and accuracy,” says Dr. Attalla. “And we love making a difference in the lives of women. It’s why I became a pharmacist!” Katy Pharmacy 281-578-1515 20005 Katy Freeway Katy, TX 77450 www.katypharmacy.com

Help! by Amy Sharp

“I’ve never seen so many weeds in my yard...and I have a regular lawn care company. I should have NO weeds!”

D

oes this frustration sound familiar? Bruce Granger, owner of local NaturaLawn of America, says, “We’ve had two years in a row now with practically no winter weather. The winter weed activity is phenomenal, and the grass is not yet growing or just starting to grow. So we have more weeds than grass.” What does this mean? ”Your grass is perennial,” continues Bruce. “It lasts for an indefinite amount of time...many years. The weeds are annual. They come up from seed, live one season, produce more seeds and die. Here in Texas, we have winter annual weeds and summer annual weeds. Similar to the bluebonnet, the winter weeds start growing in October. We just don’t notice them until they bloom...right around now.” One plant produces upwards of 1000 seeds annually. Those seeds stay viable in the soil for 20+ years. And now, with our uncharacteristically warm winters, plants and weeds that haven’t thrived for 30 or 40 years are thriving. “A lot of our subdivisions were once pastures,” says Bruce. “They produced an abundance of weeds for years and years. Those seeds...they’re still there. And now conditions are right and they are growing. And of course they also like the fertilizer you are putting down!” 14 ~ UPCLOSE Katy ~ April-May 2017

So what can you do? “Pre-emergents stop weed seeds from growing,” says Bruce. “They suppress the growth by 80% in a good year, and 60-80% in an average year. Weed control is the goal, not elimination.” But the most effective answer is even easier: Mow! “Mowing cuts the seed population by about 50%. Plants cannot tolerate being cut, and mowing does not allow the weeds to reach full maturity. So if you skip out on mowing October till February...you’re missing out on an opportunity to reduce weeds. Mowing also stimulates roots and creates better grass and better plant material. What you want is a thick blanket that prevents the weed seeds from growing. With the drought, most of our lawns have thinned out a little...but you can get that thick blanket back by mowing. And as you know...the best looking lawn is the one that was just mowed!” NaturaLawn is not a one-size-fits-all chemical program. It’s a safe approach to environmentally responsible lawn care. Your free estimate is customized to the needs of your individual lawn, and can include aeration, seeding, insect control, 100% pesticide-free lawn care, and organic-based lawn care. Bruce also provides sound advice on watering and mowing. “What we want is to create a naturally healthy lawn that stays that way!” Call today! he new office of TRICIA TURNER PROPERTIES in Fulshear will be open for business April 21st. Tricia says, “We cannot wait. Not only is the new office opening, but it’s also the launch of my two new programs: ‘Protect and Serve’ and my ‘Teacher Rewards Program.’” The “Protect and Serve” idea came to Tricia early one morning during 2016’s police shootings and subsequent “Back the Blue” campaigns. “Police officers were really being targeted,” says Tricia. “And I thought, ‘What is wrong here? Look what these guys and girls do!’ Whether they are scared or not, they’re out there protecting us. They’re a positive influence on our communities and we really need to honor them and give back. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized my program couldn’t be exclusive to police officers. There are so many that do so much to protect us: firefighters, first responders, police officers, and of course, our military. So I came up with a way to reward and honor them all. When any of these heroes buy or sell a home, and use an agent from TRICIA TURNER PROPERTIES to represent them, they will receive 1% of the sales price back at closing. The recipient can use this money towards their closing costs, they can donate it to a worthy cause, or they can keep some and donate the rest. It is a gift and a ‘Thank You’ for all that they do.” Tricia’s “Teacher Rewards Program” came about from Tricia’s personal experience. “I was in lending for a long time. I saw a lot of teachers struggling to pay bills, especially if they were single moms. I have three children, and was a single mother for many years...so I know how hard it can be at times. I also know a lot of teachers and how hard they work. They work long hours, and are usually not paid well. As my way of saying ‘Thank You’ to these men and women, TRICIA TURNER PROPERTIES is offering $1000 at closing to all teachers, when they use one of our agents to represent them, whether buying or selling. They can use it toward closing costs, they can donate it to their school...whatever they wish. It’s my gift to them.” Both “Protect and Serve” and the “Teacher Rewards Program” are offered to anyone in the State of Texas. “I’m licensed throughout the State,” says Tricia. “So tell your friends...the police officers, firefighters, teachers...everyone. I can work with anyone in any city, county or school district in Texas.” Tricia Turner Properties opens for business April 21st...
