A Real Blessing S
by Sara Adams
usan and Rob Hawkins have been married for 44 years. In 1991 they moved here from Canada with their two kids, and now their children have two children of their own. Susan says, “We love it here. Our kids are here, our grandkids are here.” She and Rob just got back from an Alaskan cruise they took with friends from their church. This same group of empty-nesters has been cruising together for the past 15 years. One thing that made this trip different was Susan was able to wear shorts while hiking. Before, she was embarrassed by her varicose veins and she was used to covering them up. This past January Susan finally did something about her varicose veins and it had nothing to do with how her legs looked. She knew as a health problem, she shouldn’t put it off any longer. She says, “My legs were not that painful, but they did get hot and my ankles would swell. When a friend recommended Dr. Baltazar, I decided to make an appointment. Dr. Baltazar and his staff put me at ease from the get go. He listened to my concerns and he never rushed me. He explained everything to me every step of the way. Dr. Baltazar is a real blessing. He even prayed with me and my husband prior to surgery.” Dr. Ulises Baltazar is a highly regarded vein specialist. He has extensive experience working with conditions resulting from issues of the circulatory system and is a leader in his field. Board-certified by the American Board of Surgery in Vascular Surgery, Dr. Baltazar is a member of Houston Methodist Cardiovascular Surgery Associates’ Sugar Land Vein Clinic—a practice dedicated exclusively to the treatment of venous insufficiency. For anyone waiting to do something about their varicose veins, Susan has this to say, “Don’t be fearful. Don’t wait. The procedure was a lot easier than I thought it would be and my recovery was practically painless. My ankles aren’t swollen and bruised looking anymore. I never noticed how heavy my legs felt. After surgery my legs feel lighter and I have a freedom I didn’t have before.” At the recommendation of a

Dr. Adhia says, “I’ve always had an interest in medicine and the brain. Early in medical school, I was attracted to psychiatry. During rotations, I was drawn to patients with mental health needs, beginning a lifelong commitment to helping people struggling emotionally. As an Assistant Professor at the UTMB School of Medicine, educating doctors is a priority for Dr. Adhia. “I want people and doctors to better understand treatment options to help find a path to emotional well-being. There’s still so much we don’t understand about the brain, but luckily research is resulting in more successful treatment options than ever before.” “I find great satisfaction in my volunteer work with Physicians for Human Rights,” continues Dr. Adhia. “I evaluate victims of human trafficking for immigration attorneys. It’s a natural extension of my work in the legal system.” Dr. Adhia has special interest in Traumatic Brain Injury and Forensic Psychiatry. “Legal issues can be complicated, and I’m glad I can help shed light on psychiatric questions.” Dr. Adhia does expert witness work and other medicolegal inquiries all over the country in both civil and criminal cases, Together with his wife and two children, Dr. Adhia has lived in the Houston area since 2009. “They definitely keep me busy! hat’s what Marilyn Martinez told us about her son Kaleb, an avid athlete. “I have severe myopia and my husband has severe astigmatism,” says Marilyn. “We are both legally blind. Kaleb got the worst of us. He has both myopia and astigmatism.” Marilyn and her husband both see Dr. Tom Arnold at Today’s Vision Sugar
Dr. Tom Arnold
Land to take care of their eyes. Kaleb started seeing Dr. Arnold when he was just three years old. Marilyn says, “Dr. Arnold is very friendly, accommodating
and knowledgeable...and he has a great staff. We like that he stays up to date with the latest technology. Back when I was kid, it was all thick glasses. There’s so much more for kids these days! Since it would be hard to play football with glasses—not to mention if he got hit the glasses might cause even more damage—Dr. Arnold fit Kaleb in daily wear contacts. I like them because he’s a kid...he may not wash his hands as often as I’d like. And he can keep up with the daily contacts because you don’t have to worry about maintenance. Most importantly, he can see!” Marilyn’s four-year-old son is her newest patient at Today’s Vision Sugar Land. She says, “Like Kaleb, he has a really bad astigmatism and myopia. We are looking at corrective lenses that slow down the progression.” Dr. Arnold says, “Marilyn is referring to OrthoK, also known as Corneal Reshaping or Gentle Vision Shaping. This treatment involves fitting a specialized gentle mold designed to reshape the eye surface. The
lens is only worn during sleep. It’s like a ‘retainer’ for the eye...refocusing and realigning the visual image to slow or stop eye growth.” “This is what I really love about Today’s Vision Sugar Land,” says Marilyn. “They have so much to offer, and know all about the new things. They are very up to date with the latest research and technology. And you never ‘feel bad’ when you are there. When I was a kid, I always felt I had the worst vision ever when I went to the eye doctor. That doesn’t happen at Today’s Vision Sugar Land. It seems every doctor there has some eye condition...they are experienced in what you are going through and truly trying to help. I absolutely recommend them!” Today’s Vision Sugar Land 281-242-2020 15337 Southwest Freeway Sugar Land, TX 77478 www.2020sugarland.com

WALK-IN BATH P

atsy Martin is 88 years old and her husband Woods is 90. When the couple decided to install a safety step into their bathtub—making it a walk-in tub— they called on Miracle Method Surface Refinishing. Miracle Method Surface Refinishing is locally owned by Jonee and Paul Barnett. Their vast array of services include the installation of the Easy Step® to an existing tub. These installations have an optional door, and can be done on porcelain, steel, fiberglass and acrylic tubs. But the Martin’s wanted something more. Patsy says, “I wanted to keep my big, beautiful heavy glass shower door. I did not want a shower curtain. So this was a custom job.” Woods is an engineer. He worked closely with Paul to work out the details. The cut out door would open into the tub, and the shower door track would be maintained and continued on top of the cut out door. Patsy says, “Paul and his employee Mike worked wonderfully with my husband. They used our ideas and adapted their beautiful work to satisfy our requirements!” In addition to the step into the tub, Paul and Mike refinished the bottom of the bathtub. Woods says, “It had been refinished years ago. We had a mat in it to make it non slip, and once when the mat was pulled up the suction cups pulled off some of the coating. With the new Miracle Method non skid finish, we don’t even need the mat anymore!” There was already one grab bar outside Woods and Patsy’s bathtub. Paul suggested they add another inside the tub. “I use a walker and Woods uses a cane,” says Patsy. “I have found that new grab bar valuable. I’m actually going to give Paul a call. I would like another one installed near the lavatory!” Paul says, “Our grab bars are ADA-approved. These are much stronger than towel racks...which aren’t meant to support weight. And our non skid tub surface is the same slip-resistant tub bottom that national hotel chains like Marriott commissioned us to use. These are solid, worthwhile safety products.” Miracle Method Surface Refinishing can

Paul and Jonee Barnett also install a curved shower rod, hand-held shower nozzle, and/or tub chair. “We are impressed and satisfied with the custom work Miracle Method Surface Refinishing did in our home,” says Patsy. “They worked neatly, and always removed their trash and drop cloths before leaving for the day. We are pleased with the results. We absolutely recommend them to others needing these modifications!” Miracle Method Surface Refinishing 281-240-2284 603 Murphy Road, Stafford, TX (call for hours) www.miraclemethod.com/ houstonsw

ASK MARGIE The Lawyer Who Cares
ALL IN FOR Sugar Land Rotary
THIS MONTH’S TOPIC:
Getting your ducks in a row. You Have a Will. Is It Time for an Estate Plan? by Amy Sharp
F
ort Bend attorney Margie Connolly says, “Most people have a will. However, a simple will often doesn’t cover some complex issues facing your heirs, which is why I recommend an estate plan. I work with doctors, accountants, small business owners and other professionals and people getting ready to retire. Many have a will and a trust for their children—and even legal documents like powers of attorney and a health care directive—but an estate plan provides clarity about each heir to your estate, which is particularly important if the deceased person had multiple marriages and families. Plus, with a plan in place, your heirs will likely pay substantially less in taxes, fees and court costs and avoid nasty family battles over your assets after you are gone. Here are four tasks to get you started!” 1. Make a current list and valuation of all your assets. This is a complete list of all assets, debts and life insurance. Include the approximate value of each asset as well as the current owner(s) and any beneficiaries. 2. Write a letter of intent and instruction. It’s vital to account for every asset, even some of the smallest ones. Family feuds over personal effects can get out of control! Writing a letter or memorandum that explains the reasons—and the intent—for choosing to give a particular asset to a person can forestall needless family strife and legal challenges. 3. Choose the right decision-makers (the key players!). Several people may play key roles in enacting your estate plan, including the executor and possibly a trustee and guardian. Your attorney can help you fully understand
the roles of each key player! 4. Make regular updates to your plan. Review your estate plan at least every five years, and at “milestone” events, such as marriage, divorce and new children. Make certain to also regularly update beneficiaries and potential decision-makers. Margie adds, “Unfortunately, many people work hard to develop a plan, but even after several years, fail to update important information. Work with your financial advisor to ensure your estate plan is implemented. Otherwise, an estate plan that gathers dust over years is just an expensive pile of paperwork!”
DO SOMETHING TODAY THAT YOUR FUTURE SELF WILL THANK YOU FOR.

ongtime Fort Bend County resident John Kennedy has bought multiple cars from Classic Chevy Sugar Land. He says, “I haven’t bought a Chevy from anyone else. But I can tell that here at Classic Chevy Sugar Land, they really mean it when they say, ‘Relax and Enjoy the Difference!’” Most recently, John bought a brand new 2012 Chevy Tahoe. “That experience was the same as each time before: very easy. There’s no pressure and no upselling. Classic Chevy Sugar Land makes it a great buying experience. I also use their service department. It’s the same level of service and care that is found throughout the dealership. Everyone I’ve encountered at Classic Chevy Sugar Land is very professional and efficient. It’s an enjoyable experience!” Of course, it’s really no surprise to hear such high accolades from a Classic Chevy Sugar Land repeat customer. For every year they’ve been in existence, this dealership has been awarded the General Motors Chevrolet “Dealer of the Year” award. It’s an honor only given to the top one percent of Chevrolet dealers in the nation for excellence in customer service, and it’s the highest honor GM bestows. General Sales Manager Brandon Sine says. “We’ve always been a dealership that takes pride in transparency, efficiency, and customer satisfaction...and that’s never going to change. We have the same high standards
in every aspect of our business––new, pre-owned, on-site or internet sales, service, body shop, and financing. We pledge to keep our focus on you.” John is the current Chairman of the Central Fort Bend Chamber of Commerce. He also serves on the board for Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels. Through his work in our community, John has formed a friendship with Classic Chevy Sugar Land Business Development and Community Relations Manager Ray Aguilar. John says, “To be honest, it’s tough to go to an event and not find Ray...and I mean that in a good way! Ray and Classic Chevy Sugar Land are extremely visible in our community and very supportive. They are always out and about, and I think that’s important!” The next big community event to be hosted at Classic Chevy Sugar Land will be the Annual Chili Cook-off coming to you this fall on October 13, 2018. Classic Chevy Sugar Land owner Jeff Sebastian says, “We would love to have you all out here at the dealership on October 13th for a day of family fun benefitting our entire community of law enforcement and fire protection. But don’t wait until then! Whether you’re in the market for a new car or new-to-you car—or just want to drop in and see what we’re all about— you are always welcome. ust before Katherine Legreid’s oldest daughter was born, she hired Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services to help clean her home. “I don’t remember how I found them,” says Katherine. “But that was seven years ago...and they have been cleaning my home ever since!” “They do a quality job,” continues Katherine. “I appreciate that I can trust they will be here to get the work done. I also appreciate how flexible they are. If I forget to tell them about a schedule change, they are willing to accomodate. Our home is one and a half stories, and I regularly only have them clean the main floor...where we make the mess! But if I do
have company coming over, I have often put in a last minute request to clean the second floor. Or sometimes I do an add-on service last minute…like asking them to clean the inside of my refrigerator. Mahoney’s is always happy to accomodate.” Bonded, insured and locally owned by Imelda Mahoney and her daughter Casandra, Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services can do a one time deep clean or work on a schedule of your choosing. As Katherine has learned, they also provide additional add-on services like cleaning and organizing your refrigerator, china cabinet, oven or garage upon request. The team has grown to multiple crews of ladies that clean homes all over Fort Bend County. “In the early days, Imelda was part of my crew,” says Katherine. “I don’t see her as often anymore, but sometimes she fills in if a crew member is missing. Other times I’ve seen her come early to get started if my crew was running late, making sure my house was finished up at the right time. They do what it takes to get the job done. A Strong Family Foundation
by Olivia Cane
F
or more than 20 years, the Burkhalter family from Alan’s Plumbing has worked out at the newly named Kinetix Fitness Center in Missouri City, now owned by Kevin Rios and Chris Stone. Why? Because their local business demands they be in shape...and personal trainer Alonzo Brown is more than up to the task. Virtually no one in the Fort Bend area knows more about the super strength required of plumbers than master plumber Alan Burkhalter. For him, it’s not just a job. It’s a calling. “A lot of people think being a plumber is about unclogging toilets or fixing dripping sinks,” says Alan. “But at Alan’s Plumbing, we’re licensed for gas and a whole lot more. Whether it’s plumbing installations, plumbing repairs, replacing or repairing hot water heaters, repiping entire houses or even fixing garbage disposals...we’ve got you covered. We have both the manpower and the strength to get the job done.” Alan’s Plumbing takes pride in being “Service First”...and they have the five-star Facebook consumer reviews to prove it. “‘Service First’ means doing the work when
we say we’re going to do it,” says Alan. “Showing up on time, leaving your house as clean, if not cleaner, than we found it, and being completely transparent in our pricing. When it comes to hiring a plumber, the last thing you want is a surprise fee tacked on at the end. We earn the trust of every customer the right way—by working hard and putting the customer first.” It’s not just Alan who works at Alan’s Plumbing either. It’s his whole family. Like Alan, brother Chris Burkhalter is a master plumber. Alan’s wife Jennifer answers the phones and keeps the office running like well-oiled machinery. Sons Beau and Luke are journeymen licensed plumbers, son Jake is a plumbing apprentice, as are apprentices Jaime and Trevor. Longtime employee Jeff Johnson is also journeyman licensed. “We love what we do,” says Alan. “And we get to do plumbing not because we have to. In fact, we are what we do. And we love the area we serve. My grandfather was an ironworker who helped build the San Jacinto Monument. All my boys were born and raised here. Now they’re starting families of their own—the next genera-
tion of proud, hard working Texans. Being able to give back to the community that has been so important to us is one of the most rewarding parts of doing this work. Alan’s Plumbing isn’t a faceless, nameless national corporation. We’re a family. And you’re part of our family too.” So the next time your family finds itself in a bit of a bind plumbing-wise, remember that Alan’s Plumbing has the manpower and the strength to fix just about any problem that arises. Can’t Remember WHY You Walked into the Room?
Finally, a way to determine if there is real reason for concern! by Amy Sharp

f you are concerned about the health of the higher function of your brain, or worried about dementia, Alzheimer’s or other mental issues, Dr. Julia Ward—primary care physician and owner of Balanced Body Image—now offers an innovative way to measure brain function. Dr. Ward says, “This brain function test was created by CNS Vital Signs, a world leader in the design and development of neurocognitive and behavioral assessment tools and technologies. It’s truly innovative. Previously, we were dependent upon imaging studies to measure brain function, and unfortunately, you had to have a lot of memory loss before it showed up on those tests. Not anymore. This test can detect and track even slight cognitive impairments. Cognitive flexibility, processing speed and executive function are all tested. If you have a family history but are not showing symptoms, we can get a baseline measurement to see where you are. And absolutely, if you are having trouble finding words or can’t remember why you walked into a room, you should be tested.” “The nice thing about this test,” continues Dr. Ward, “is you do it at home. I email the link and the test takes 45 minutes of your time that is free of distraction. When your results are ready, I review them with you.” Results from your brain function test compare you to others in your age group. And if your results are low? “We come up with a plan,” says Dr. Ward. “It all ties back to what I do here at Balanced Body Image: functional medicine. I address the root cause of your health issues. Why is your body (or brain!) reacting the way it is? Some plans include brain strengthening games or exercises to frequently allow the brain to rest in a relaxed/meditative state. For others, brains are being affected by heavy metal toxins or other nutritional factors, so we address those. By optimizing health, everything else starts to fall in line...including your brain. early 10 years ago, Latanya Ellerbee stopped into Lone Star Floors when she was looking to redo the flooring in her home. She says, “My floors were done quickly and I was very pleased with the work.” Armed with the knowledge that Lone Star Floors also does remodeling, Latanya called on them again when she wanted to redo her bathroom. “It was a big job, and I was nervous,” says Latanya. “But I was also confident in Lone Star Floors after my initial experience. They walked me through picking materials and helped with design and color. The bathroom turned out great. Lone Star Floors made what can be an arduous process very smooth.” So when Latanya decided to do a full floor-to-ceiling gut and remodel of her 20-year-old kitchen, her choice of contractor was obvious: Lone Star Floors. She says, “It’s been nearly 10 years since I first worked with them, and Lone Star Floors is still under the same ownership with very little turnover. Each time, I’ve worked with Sam. This kitchen remodel was tricky.
I travel with my job Monday-Thursday. Sam worked with me to do most of it on Fridays and Saturdays. He would ping me Thursday night and let me know what time to expect the crews Friday. While they worked, I stayed out of their way and they came in and did what they needed to do. Each evening, they cleaned up before they left and confirmed an arrival time for the next day. Sometimes on Sundays they needed access when I wasn’t here. They always made sure to leave the house secured.” “My new kitchen turned out great!” continues Latanya. “Lone Star Floors also redid my fireplace and the ceiling in the family room to maintain continuity into those living spaces. It changed the look of the house completely. So pretty and very different from what we started with. Every project I’ve done with Lone Star Floors has been to my liking and has stayed within my budget down to the penny. They quoted a price and that was my cost. It never increased once we got started. I don’t know how they do that, but it’s great!”

A KW (Keller Williams) Southwest Experience
J
Joe and Megan Palacios’ Story
oe Palacios grew up in Houston. When he joined the Marines in 1992, Joe moved to California...where he’s lived ever since. “That’s where I met Megan,” says Joe. “A native Californian.” Joe’s recently retired from the military, and he and Megan— together with three kids and two dogs—are moving to Texas! “I met KW (Keller Williams) Southwest agent James Villanueva on a veteran’s support group on Facebook,” says Joe. “James is Navy and we really connected.”
Megan has a friend that lives in Sugar Land, and the couple decided this is the place for them to buy a home. Megan says, “I was coming out for a week to visit Beth, so I met up with James. We talked about different areas and schools; what is important for my family. Then we visited about 12 homes, and put in an offer on one. We were so excited...but once I was back in CA, we learned the offer did not go through. Disappointed, we sent Beth with James to look at houses and FaceTime them with us. Then Beth was on vacation, and we saw a house we liked online. James went by himself and walked us through via FaceTime. Ultimately, he FaceTimed seven houses for us. And I would make crazy requests... like ask him to get in the shower and show me how it looks. I don’t think many agents would do that! There were also times we asked his opinion. We came to really trust him with a lot.” “It’s kind of crazy,” continues Joe. “We haven’t even seen the

house we are buying in Texas in person. But my Dad and Beth have, and they say it’s beautiful. James knew exactly what we were looking for after looking at so many with us. This is our first time to buy a home, and we had no idea what we were getting into. James is very good at communicating, even though we are several states away. When our mortgage company in CA was missing something, James found the problem and corrected it. In fact, my friend Patrick who did all the loan work said he has worked with thousands of agents, and James was the first to ever take responsibility for a mistake and just quickly take care of it. That’s integrity. Of course we recommend James!” Once settled here in Sugar Land, Joe is planning to start an urban farm. He says, “This will be a community supported agriculture project that will serve as a transitional work program for veterans.” Megan is leaving an established massage therapist practice in CA. Look for Joe’s urban farm and Megan’s new practice opening here in Sugar Land soon! No matter where you are or what you are looking for, KWSW finds the home that fits you and your family perfectly! ow can we protect those who protect us? The men and women of the Sugar Land Police Department leave their families every day and risk their lives to protect us. As a result of their efforts, in 2018 SecurityChoice.com placed Sugar Land in the Top 50 of the Safest Cities to Retire in America. While the officers of the Sugar Land Police Department are keeping our community safe, what can we do to ensure their safety? On October 11, 2018 Smart Financial will present the Second Annual Back the Blue fundraiser in support of the Sugar Land Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (SLCPAAA). The SLCPAAA is a 501(c)(3), fully volunteer organization that funds crime prevention programs, purchases much needed law enforcement equipment, and engages in volunteer activities that assist the Sugar Land Police Department efforts. Last year’s Back the Blue event brought in $75,000.00 and this year’s co-chairs – KK and Scott West, and Amy West and Gary Becker – intend to double that amount, and have set this year’s goal at $150,000.00. Funds raised will provide life-saving equipment (like medical bags in patrol cars that could save lives of private citizens as well as police officers), tactical vests and other equipment that greatly increases the chances of officer survival when faced with an attack. Additionally, funds will be used to purchase new crime fighting technology and training equipment that will support the Sugar Land Police Department’s continued efforts to make Sugar Land safer than ever before. Sugar Land Police Chief Robins says, “We are so grateful to our community for all the support it has given us through the years. We would not be as successful as we are without our citizens and community partners.” Gary Becker, President of Smart Financial Centre, promises, “Back the Blue will be like no event you’ve ever seen. Prior to
dinner in the lobby, guests can interact with some members of Sugar Land Police Department, test their skills in simulated interactions with the bad guys, see some hi-tech CSI investigative techniques, and learn more about public safety. After dinner, the event will move into the theater for a live concert performed by a well-known, national touring band. Entertainment has been underwritten by one of our caring and generous community leaders. The Smart Financial Centre stage has state of the art audio and lighting. The acoustics are phenomenal. This is a show you won’t want to miss.” According to Captain Chris Thompson, all a police officer really wants to know is that the community they serve appreciates what they do. He says, “Our officers feel that appreciation everyday in Sugar Land. They really enjoy their jobs. They come to work happy. They come to work ready to serve.” Be a part of this year’s Back the Blue fundraiser on October 11th where you can show your appreciation and support for those who protect and serve our community.

by Amy Sharp hat’s what Shelley Clark told us about SuperSlow Zone, Sugar Land’s unique approach to strength building, weight loss and general exercise. Shelley’s interest in SuperSlow Zone was sparked by a Facebook post. “I had tried a few of the popular gyms,” says the 60-year-old. “And decided that I’m too old for that! This looked like something I could do.” What’s different about SuperSlow Zone? “The thing that impressed me the most during my consultation with Maeve King (General Manager) was that you only have to do this workout twice a week for 20 minutes,” says Shelley. “I mean...everybody can do that, so I signed up! That was six months ago, and I still really enjoy going. I love that it’s a small atmosphere, not a big gym. And all I have to do is sit down and do the machines. The instructors set everything up, including what weight to do. They do all the thinking for me! Doing this on my own, I would give up after three or four reps. That doesn’t happen at SuperSlow Zone because my expert instructor is with me, coaching me and encouraging me to finish. I like that there’s really no way to get hurt... you do each exercise very slowly. And the best part! You don’t sweat. I just show up in whatever clothes I’m wearing, which is awesome. I do my 20 minute session and go directly to church or one of my volunteer jobs. Sometimes I run errands after…whatever I want to do, there’s not a problem with smelling of sweat!” “I highly recommend SuperSlow Zone,” continues Shelley. “I’m definitely stronger. I can now easily lift my groceries. I walk about five miles a week, and I used to experience lower back pain after walking. Not anymore. It’s working for me! I’ve told a lot of my Shelley Clark with her instructor John, still going strong! friends...just go for the consultation and really see what it’s all about. HEALTH MATTERS WITH DR. STEVE HARRIS, DOCTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC WHERE PAIN RELIEF COMES NATURALLY
A Moving Experience

by Sara Adams
ent and Marilyn Johnson wanted to be closer to their children and grandchildren so they moved to our area last November. They would have arrived a little sooner had it not been for an uninvited guest called Hurricane Harvey. As the Johnsons were about to leave Dallas and head to Sienna Plantation, the hurricane appeared to be traveling faster than they were. Postponing their move, the Johnsons arrived in Missouri City after Hurricane Harvey and in plenty of time to experience the inspiring and overwhelming support of neighbors helping neighbors in the wake of a natural disaster. While packing for their big move, Marilyn hurt her back. She found it difficult to bend over or do regular chores like loading a dishwasher, laundry or packing. She visited a doctor in Dallas and had a few sessions of physical therapy, but she was still struggling with back pain when they got here. Their pastor recommended Dr. Steve Harris of Sugar Land Health Center, and they both decided to meet Dr. Harris. Kent was starting to experience some pain from an old back injury and Marilyn sought treatment for her back and also enrolled in Dr. Harris’s weight loss program. They both liked Dr. Harris immediately. Kent said, “We’re big fans of Dr. Harris and his entire staff. They really care about people. Dr. Harris is knowledgeable, kind and gentle. He can look at you and isolate the area where you are having pain.” Marilyn resolved her back pain early on and continues to lose weight with the support and counseling of Lee Harris, Dr. Harris’s wife. Marilyn has lost 70 pounds since December 2nd. She said, “The program isn’t that hard and I was very determined. I got a lot of positive reinforcement from Lee and the entire staff.” Dr. Steve Harris offers a wide variety of chiropractic care modalities and associated therapies to help people with chronic pain or to help improve their overall musculoskeletal function and health. Dr. Harris opened Sugar Land Health Center in 1982, and has been in practice for 41 years. Known for incorporating new technology and techniques that complement his safe and holistic approach, Dr. Harris offers chiropractic care, pain relief, spinal decompression, rehabilitation and an effective weight loss program. Returning from a recent trip to Spain where they enjoyed a lot of walking and spending time with their son, both Johnsons were pleased with their level of activity and mobility. And Marilyn said, “I was able to maintain my weight loss while on vacation.

Dr. Harris, Lee Harris and the entire Sugar Land Health Center staff have contributed to our well-being.” All in all, relocating to the Sugar Land area has been a truly moving experience for Kent and Marilyn Johnson.
