Star-Studded Event Traumatized Benefits Children

Champions Kids Camp (CKC), founded by Bill and Kim Nash of Fort Bend County, held its largest ever annual fundraiser, Texas Best Music Fest (TBMF), Sunday afternoon, June 11, 2023 at Mo’s place in Katy. The camp was founded by the Nash’s in 2001 with a mission to nurture children who have survived a traumatic injury, illness or personal loss of a parent or sibling. Bill says “Kim and I created CKC to honor our son Billy, who survived childhood leukemia.”

This year’s fundraiser raised the most money ever in CKC’s 21-year history. Texas Best Music Fest, sponsored by the Classic Elite family of dealerships, was emceed by Houston TV personality, Debra Duncan, and Fulshear Katy Area Chamber President and CEO, Don McCoy. This star-studded event kicked off with an invocation by the highly regarded Dodie Osteen. Musical talent included Hayden Baker who was recently signed by Ronnie Dunn of Brooks and Dunn, Mary Sarah from the Voice’s “Team Blake,” Jimmy Nash, co-writer of “Quicksand” by American Blonde, Marilyn Savage Martinez singing “Old Time Rock and Roll,” plus Bill and Kim Nash. signed by Termite Watkins and his student Jasie G.—raising funds for CKC. Near the end of the event, Bill brought several CKC “Champions” to the stage. These are young adults who attended camp as children and were so transformed, they’ve returned each year thereafter. The afternoon concluded with a powerful collaboration by all of the artists.

CKC Board Member Jerry Parks says, “I’ve known and followed Bill’s singing career for more than 47 years. Champions Kids Camp is Bill and Kim’s lifelong dream! Myself and many others are honored and humbled to help them fulfill these dreams. It’s really heartwarming, as well as rewarding, to help these kids. We couldn’t do it without everyone’s support. Thank you all so much for supporting CKC and TBMF over the years.”

The Classic Elite family of dealerships includes Classic Elite Chevy Sugar Land, Classic Elite Chevy Hwy 6 and Classic Elite Buick GMC on the Katy Freeway. Classic Elite owners, Tiffany and Jeff Sebastian, say, “For more than two decades, CKC has helped thousands of kids move past their trauma. We are proud to be a small part of raising funds for such a worthy, local charity. Champions Kids Camp is truly helping kids get past what they can never get over. Texas Best Music Fest was an afternoon to remember and will be back again next summer. We can’t wait to see you all again!”
