usy mom of three boys, Bethany Jablonski, was getting frustrated with her varicose veins. “I was just feeling lousy. By the end of the day, my legs were heavy and achy...and some days it hurt to walk. It was to the point that I didn’t feel like I was being a very good mom and wife. I expressed my frustration to my primary care physician at Methodist, who recommended I visit vein specialist, Dr. Ulises Baltazar.” Dr. Baltazar’s office, Methodist Cardiovascular Surgery Associates, is a practice dedicated exclusively to the treatment of venous insufficiency that can cause painful varicose veins, venous stasis ulcers as well as leg swelling. “I loved Dr. Baltazar the first time I visited his office. He took a lot of time with me, making me feel like I was his only patient. I’m from a small town in Iowa, and I feel like it’s easy to get lost in the crowd in this large Houston area...but Dr. Baltazar’s office felt very small town to me.” An ultrasound revealed Bethany’s valves were not functioning correctly to push the blood back up her legs, causing her ankles to swell and the discomfort she was experiencing. Dr. Baltazar identified which veins were not working, and then presented Bethany with options. “I decided on laser surgery and scheduled immediately. We are moving back to Iowa, and I wanted to get this done before the move by Dr. Baltazar...because veins are his specialty. I wasn’t confident I would find anyone with his expertise once we moved.” Today, Bethany is 10 weeks post surgery and packing for Iowa. “I feel much better, and the heaviness is gone. Not only do I feel better, my legs look better. I didn’t do it for cosmetic reasons, but I didn’t realize how bad they looked until now. The difference is amazing!” At just under 40 years old, Bethany knows she isn’t finished with vein doctors. “Dr. Baltazar explained I have weak veins. It’s entirely possible the same will happen with other veins in my legs and I will need another procedure. I already told my husband I will be leaving Iowa and doing a staycation in Houston when that happens. No way would I see anyone else. I love Dr. Baltazar and I trust him. I absolutely recommend him to anyone suffering from varicose veins. I know there are a lot of women out there afraid or not sure what to do. I show off my legs at the soccer fields all the time and encourage them to visit Dr. Baltazar. I’m glad I had my procedure done. No regrets!”

How The World Stays

COOL

by Olivia Cane

S

ummer is definitely here! Have you ever wondered what people in other parts of the world—people who don’t have access to air conditioning—do to keep cool? In New Delhi, India, it’s so hot right now, the asphalt is literally melting. Painted road markings look like a big geometric swirl. To avoid sunstroke, one enterprising man set up his food stand inside a concrete pipe. Indian housewives often buy a block of ice from an ice vendor, chop it up and put it in a shallow pan, and then set the pan in front of a table fan. Failing that, they hang wet laundry in the doorway. Let’s just say it doesn’t do much for the humidity problem! The hottest point of Australia’s summer happens in February, which was a scorcher this year. Savvy Australians place a table fan in front of an open window to expel the hot air inside the house, and then open another window to create a cross draft. Others swear

that drinking hot tea will make you sweat and because sweat evaporates...you feel a little cooler. But the takeaway from all these brilliant attempts to stay cool is that despite our high temperatures...we have it awfully good! And the reason we have such an exceptional quality of life is because of people like Brian Jackson of Jackson Air and Heat. “Trane variable speed XV20i air conditioners with TruComfort™ Technology have revolutionized the way we cool our homes,” says Brian. “They do this by running at the exact speed necessary to keep your home comfortable. By lowering output capacity and operating speed to only what is needed, the system runs quieter and consumes less energy, which saves you a ton of money. Quietest A/C on the market, most efficient...and great at removing humidity. I have one in my own home!” In business now for over 30 years, Jackson Air is the oldest Trane Comfort Specialist in

Sugar Land. They are EPA and NATE certified, recipients of the Angie’s List “Super Service” award and the BBB Award for Excellence. In addition to building a reputation for service, they are happy to make things easier for you by offering 0% financing or money back in rebates. “Call for a consultation today,” says Brian. “We can show you what REAL air conditioning is all about!”

The “A-Team”

of Personal Transformation

A

by Olivia Cane

ccording to legend, Aphrodite—the goddess of love and beauty—made an annual pilgrimage to the waters of Cythera. As she bathed and frolicked in the sea foam, her breathtaking loveliness was instantly restored. Renaissance painters fell over themselves trying to capture the allure of Aphrodite. The silver screen abounds with actresses who embody her archetype. But Aphrodite exists inside every woman who knows the power of looking and feeling her most beautiful best. Fortunately for modern-day goddesses, their “waters of Cythera” can be found a lot closer to home. Dr. Eric Humble of Sugar Land Face & Body Plastic Surgery has added to his Aphrodite Team—or A-Team—of beauty experts. He welcomes aesthetician LaDonna Marie, who has been making women beautiful for more than twenty years. “I’m so excited about integrating everything I know about skin into a top-notch, board-certified practice like Sugar Land Face & Body,” says LaDonna. “My daughter, Taylor, is his lead injector and loves working with him, his staff and his wonderful clientele. I truly believe you get the best results when you take a multi-perspective approach to enhancing beauty.” “Advances in anti-aging treatments are nothing short

of miraculous,” continues LaDonna. “And fillers are definitely leading that trend. There is no reason to be afraid of them. With the proper application, a little goes a long way. My clients never look frozen or overly volumized. And sometimes with just a subtle plumping to the lips with Restylane Silk or erasing fine lines with a Perfect Peel, you are on your way to feeling gorgeous again.” LaDonna also does laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing, hydrafacials and Skin Pen—a leading edge treatment for fine lines on the face, acne or chickenpox scars and all-over skin tightening. “Dr. Humble can work his considerable artistry with his many surgical procedures and I can fine tune your new look at the topical level,” explains LaDonna. “Our goal is to make sure you leave here feeling transformed, whether that transformation is subtle or more dramatic.” Every woman is a goddess, and every goddess loves knowing the way she looks tells her story. If there’s something about your appearance that’s bothering you, do something about it! “Together, Dr. Humble and I can make you look both natural and beautiful,” says LaDonna.“Come in and see for yourself what’s possible. We think you are going to be very happy.”

aye Watson met KW Southwest (Keller Williams) agent Winona Smith several years ago at a church picnic. “We just had a lot in common,” says Faye, “and I enjoy her personality. So we kept in touch. About a year and half ago my husband Kimmy and I decided we would like a weekend home—and ultimately retire—near my hometown of Wharton, TX. I contacted Winona to inquire about locating property.” The Watsons’ requirements were simple. The property had to be at least five acres and close to Wharton. “We looked at several properties, and I fell in love with the second one we saw. A beautiful piece of land in Peach Creek.” KWSW agent Winona says, “It was fantastic acreage, but we soon learned there were also several liens on the property. I showed them other properties as a contingent plan, but Mrs. Watson’s heart was set on the Peach Creek acreage. I had my work cut out for me.” “Winona was amazing!” continues Faye. “She really went above and beyond to get the property we wanted. The last time we had worked with a real estate agent was 11 years ago when we built our current home...and the experience was so disappointing. We signed the contract and did not see the agent again until closing. Winona is completely different. She stays engaged and makes sure you are updated on everything. She doesn’t see problems, just challenges and opportunities. Even if something is not in the

scope of her responsibility, she takes it on to make your dreams a reality. And she did just that for us...working through lots of issues and working with the seller’s agent to get the property we wanted. I recommend her all the time. I even trusted my own daughter to her. Winona helped my daughter Kimber and her fiance Jide purchase their first home. Like most kids, they wanted to live in town. But Winona understood they were just starting out and didn’t have a lot of money. She did a great job educating them on the importance of an affordable initial investment, so that they can achieve their dreams later in life.” “Here at KWSW, we specialize in ‘winning’ for our clients,” says Winona. “We don’t allow challenging situations to get in the way of making a client’s dream come true. I’m so excited for the Watsons. They are currently in the design phase of their house in Wharton County and plan to begin construction soon on their dream home! And I was honored to work with their daughter. It’s truly a blessing. With a lot of education and stats I convinced them to start their lives off in the suburbs where they could get more home for their money. Everyone was happy in the end, and I truly felt a part of the village that nurtured my client’s child to adulthood.” KW Southwest ~ 281-265-0000 1650 Highway 6, Ste 350 • Sugar Land, TX 77478

Remodel with Confidence

Y

ou’ve been planning your kitchen remodel for months. You’ve budgeted, mapped, measured, and compared prices. Think of the hours you’ve spent poring over glossy tile-and-fixture catalogs and making weekend pilgrimages to designer showrooms. It’s no wonder you’ve awakened in the middle of the night, drenched in a cold sweat, fretting over whether you underestimated square footage! Remodeling, especially kitchens and bathrooms, is a sweaty, nerve racking experience. And that’s why it’s important to do it right. That means not cutting corners and not letting your contractor do things that require the skill of a licensed plumber. Just ask master plumber Alan Burkhalter of Alan’s Plumbing. “Appliances like toilets and gas dryers are always pulled out or replaced when new flooring is installed,” says Alan. “And installing new flooring is something that any good contractor can handle. But

only a licensed plumber should be resetting toilets, gas dryers, or shower hardware. If there are leaks behind the wall, it might take years before they’re detected. Meanwhile, not only has all that water damaged your house, you’ll have to pull up the new tile to fix it.” The same holds true for pretty new sinks and faucets. “There’s one golden rule: If water runs through it, you need a licensed plumber,” explains Alan. “The guy who’s putting in your new shower tile shouldn’t be the same guy who’s in charge of the pipes and fixtures.” Alan’s had a lifetime’s worth of experience doing all things plumbing and plumbing related...and his three boys, Beau, Luke and Jake, not only grew up in the business but are now a part of it. “We are a generational company,” says Alan. “First it was my brother Chris and I. Now it’s all three of my boys, my beautiful wife Jennifer (who answers the

phone,) licensed plumber Jeff Johnson and apprentices Jaime, Trevor, Kyle and Robert. Plumbing isn’t just a business to us. It’s a calling. And the most important part of being a great plumber is not just getting the job done right, but doing it cleanly and at a fair price. When you invite us inside your house, we leave it just as clean as we found it—and that includes doing remodels, too. We don’t leave any work for other people to finish.” Whether the problem requires high-tech skills or plain old nuts-and-bolts mechanical prowess, Alan and his amazing team are only a phone call away from making your life good again. “Don’t remodel without us,” says Alan. “We can help the process go a whole lot smoother.”

Integrity Means by Olivia Cane

W

hen it comes to your family, your home and your business, you want professionals that have the equipment, knowledge and experience to handle any problem you throw at them with integrity. That’s why decorated Marine John Onofrey built not one, but two, outstanding service-oriented businesses to protect the things that matter most: Top 2 Bottom Inspections (www. texasinspectors.net) and BUGCO Pest Control (www.bugco.org.) Wanting the ironclad integrity of the armed forces, John hired inspectors who were all military veterans...representing the Marines, the Army, the Navy, and the Coast Guard. “It’s the reason we’ve been growing since the very beginning,” explains John, a Certified Master Inspector himself. “Since 2003, we’ve been inspecting properties all over Fort

Bend, Harris, Brazoria and Montgomery County...working with many fantastic real estate professionals to do residential and commercial real estate, termite control, pools and spas and thermal imaging. Our customers know they can trust us to find problems if problems exist. When you use our services, you’re getting the best eyes in the business. It’s our job to protect your financial bottom line.” After Top 2 Bottom started doing termite inspections, customers requested pest control too. So in 2007 John started BUGCO with his long time friend Chris Millward...who had years of experience in pest control with a national company. “We pride ourselves on delivering honest, responsible and effective service, and the kind of personal touch you only get from a local, home-grown company.” Right now, BUGCO’s offering a 20 nozzle mosquito misting system, installed in your

We can also service, repair or upgrade any existing system. If your house has a mosquito misting system, but you have no idea what to do with it, we can help. And as an added bonus...house general pest control is included with all mosquito misting quarterly maintenance programs!” Home inspectors often have to give folks unwelcome news. Even so, John says, “After a home inspection, when our customers asked for more services (pest control,) that was the highest compliment we could imagine. hen Mike Treadway moved into his neighborhood back in 1983, up and coming dentist Dr. Thomas Lomonte moved in across the street. “We became fast friends,” says Mike. “We just had a lot in common. Young families and we both enjoyed fishing and hunting waterfowl. At the time, he was just starting out...so I told him he could not be my dentist until he got a little more experience!” “I have an uncle that went to dental school in 1932,” continues Mike. “When I was in college, he pulled one of my molars...he didn’t believe in root canals. So I had a socket without a tooth for about 12 years. I’d talked to Tommy off and on about it...and the truth is, I wasn’t regularly seeing a dentist...so I needed a lot of work done. Around 1990 Tommy convinced me I should put a porcelain bridge across where I was missing a tooth. So I decided to give him a try. He’s been my dentist ever since.” “He is a fantastic dentist and a fantastic guy,” continues Mike. “He has a great sense of humor and he’s fun-loving. His personality shines through whether you’re in his office, on a boat, or out in

the field. And his staff is just as pleasurable and positive. It’s just a friendly place to be. Right now I’m in the process of replacing that 26 year old bridge with implants. As the years passed, food was getting stuck under it, and I needed a change. Tommy recommended two implants so that I could better floss around the teeth. This technology did not even exist 26 years ago. We have the implants set, and at my next appointment I should get my new teeth!” For nearly 30 years, Dr. Lomonte has been making new friends at his same Stafford office. St. Michael’s is in-network with AETNA and also accepts more than 200 insurance plans, including Cigna, Blue Cross, United, and Humana. Your insurance MUST pay in-network benefits at the ER of YOUR CHOICE whether the emergency room you choose is “in-network” or “out-of-network.”

or most Texans, summer means fun in the sun. However, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) warns that summer is also the time fun-seeking kids are most likely to be injured...and ERs are feeling the usual seasonal spike in unintended injuries. Dr. Shannon Orsak, co-founder of St. Michael’s Emergency Rooms, says, “Summer’s a wonderful time of year. But here in the medical business, it’s also known as ‘trauma season.’ We see distinct patterns to summer accidents...and many could be easily prevented!” Drowning—It’s not like in the movies, there’s no wild flailing and commotion. Dr. Orsak says, “A child will simply slide into the water, very silently and very quickly. Drowning and adult supervision go hand-inhand. Swim lessons and life jackets are both invaluable, but they are not a substitute for supervision.” Helmets—Children and adults should wear helmets when biking, skating, skateboarding, or riding scooters, all-terrain vehicles, and horses. “A lot of parents and children think of scrapes and bruises as badges of honor...and maybe they are!” says Dr. Orsak. “But a traumatic brain injury is no badge of honor. Wear a helmet.” Burns—Fireworks, barbeques, and the sun itself are all integral parts of a Texas summer. “Parents, keep the heat away from the kids,” says Dr. Orsak. “Teach children to respect fireworks and fires. Here too, supervision is key. And don’t forget about the sun. Sunblock is a must for both yourself and your child when spending time outdoors.” Trampolines—Kids enjoy trampolines year round here in Texas, but summer draws more kids together in a single setting. “You’ve got motion, height, and bodies colliding,” says Dr. Orsak. “Heads smash together, bones break, and bodies get launched off the trampoline. Only use trampolines with safety walls and spring coverings, and only allow one bouncer at a time.” At this time St Michael’s, due to governmental, bureaucratic decisions, is unable to participate in Medicare, Medicaid, or Tricare.

ike fashion and hairstyles, bathroom decor trends evolve over the years. Are you green with envy when you see your neighbor’s granite vanity? Or maybe it’s your avocado green bathtub that drives you crazy? But you’re also conscious of the fact that both the vanity and the the tub are in perfectly good shape. Is it worth the hassle and expense of ripping out just to change the color? With Miracle Method Surface Refinishing, you don’t have to! Our local Miracle Method owners Paul and Jonee Barnett have been giving Fort Bend and Southwest Houston bathrooms much-needed facelifts for more than a decade...at a fraction of the cost of replacement! Most home decor changes boil down to a matter of personal preference... but it doesn’t mean it has to be completely demolished to get exactly what you want. Paul says, “Replacing a tub presents a number of challenges, especially if yours is a uniquely sized garden tub. The plumbing will most likely need to be reconfigured, the flooring will need to be replaced, the tile will all need to be ripped out...not to mention the huge mess and expense, simply for a color change. We refinish your tub in place, in just a couple of days! And we aren’t limited to just tubs. Ceramic tile in a shower, around a bathtub, on a bathroom floor, and bathroom vanities are all excellent candidates for a Miracle makeover. Our Natural Accents™ finish offers a multi-color stone look that’s seamless, non-porous, heat and scratch resistant, and is easily repaired. Best of all...it will all look totally new! There’s really no need to waste functional tubs and vanities and toss them into a landfill when they can be repaired and beautifully refinished in place.” Jonee and Paul are proud to be accredited members of the BBB, have an A rating on Angie’s List and have won the Angie’s List Super Service award multiple years. “We take great pride in customer service,” says Jonee. “We promise to show up on time and ready to work. EIGHT YEARS OF RELIABILITY AND DEPENDABILITY

W

hen you find something that works—something that’s reliable—you stick with it. Just ask Joan Huey. She’s had the same team of ladies cleaning her Sienna Plantation home for more than eight years! “I found Mahoney’s House Cleaning through an ad in a local magazine,” says Joan. “They’ve been cleaning our house since we moved here. Eight years ago, we worked mostly with the owner, Imelda Mahoney. Since that time, we’ve had her daughter, Casandra, at our house and other ladies from Imelda’s team. They are dependable and reliable. Even as the company has grown, we still receive the same fantastic service. They never miss a time...they always show up. If I need to change my cleaning day, they’re flexible and accommodating. Prior to moving here, we had some issues with other cleaning services. Not dependable, items damaged...things like that. In the eight years we’ve used Mahoney’s, there’s not been one issue. Nothing damaged, nothing stolen and the quality is excellent and consistent. I totally trust them. They do a great job both when we’re not here and when we are. My husband works from home occasionally, and they just work around him until he finally moves. They are just very accommodating.” Mahoney’s provides customers with regularly scheduled cleanings and special projects too. You can call if you just need your bathrooms cleaned, or if you need to prepare for a big event. They’re motto is: “We never turn down a cleaning project.” Joan called Mahoney’s when a close friend had a death in the family. “I wanted to get my friend’s house cleaned, and I wanted to pay for it. Mahoney’s responded quickly and accommodated my request,

doing a fantastic job for my friend. I definitely recommend them to anyone needing quality, trustworthy house cleaning.” Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services is fully bonded and insured, and they guarantee their services. All the ‘extras’ that most companies charge you more for are part of their basic service...including blinds, baseboards and ceiling fans. Just call and ask what they can do to make your house spotless! Mahoney’s House Cleaning Services 281-777-1526 mahoneyshousecleaning@yahoo.com www.mahoneyshousecleaningservices.com

Take YOUR Pool from 1990 to 2016!

T

he pool at Paul and Rosie Williams home in Commonwealth Estates is about twenty years old. “And it looked every bit of that,” says Paul. “Really beat up. It was dated, ugly and the equipment was noisy. There was nothing attractive about it. In fact, it looked very similar to the pool we had built at our previous home...back in the early ‘90s. But the pool did have ‘good bones,’ so we decided to do a complete makeover.” Paul had several companies come out to take a look, including Bratton Pools—the family-owned company he’d seen in a local magazine. “What I really liked about Mike Bratton (co-owner of Bratton Pools) was his willingness to listen to my ideas. Others that came out were either pushing ideas that were in their comfort zone, or concepts that were very expensive. Mike was open to our ideas...even when they were new to him. He was helpful as well. He made suggestions—like tiling the entire spa instead of plastering—that were just beautiful.” “As Paul found out, nothing here is cookie-cutter,” says Mike Bratton. “We build and renovate to fit your wants, your needs, and your personality. We come to your home, take a look at your space, listen to you and get a feel for what you are wanting. The trend in pools today is that they are part of your outdoor

living space. To create the Williams’ space, we replaced the pool tile, coping, and plaster. The spa is now all tile, with a travertine spa spillway, sheer descent waterfalls, and custom deck finish to match the travertine coping. We added travertine ledge stone on raised walls and updated their old noisy equipment. We completely replaced their old dive stand that was rusting out at the bolts. LED lights were installed for ambiance. This pool and space is a great example of taking ideas and making them into a beautiful reality. Paul and Rosie knew what they were looking for, and we were happy to build it for them. It’s the same process whether you’re renovating an existing pool and space or building new!” “The final product is absolutely gorgeous,” says Paul. “As with most projects, issues did pop up along the way...and I commend Mike’s communication skills and the way he addressed them. He just took care of it, and really accomplished what we were looking for at the end of the day. I’m an engineer by trade, and the quality of work is excellent. I love to just sit outside and take it all in...it’s so nice out there!” Bratton Pools ~ 281-988-7700 www.brattonpools.com

Divorce After Many Years of Marriage by Marie Page

F

or 25 years, Ronique Bastine Robinson has represented clients in Fort Bend County and throughout the State of Texas with professional and dignified legal representation. To celebrate this silver anniversary, the practice Bastine Law Group recently hosted a Family Law Cruise where Board Certified attorney and founder Ronique spoke about divorce issues. Ronique says, “Today more than ever we are seeing divorce after 20+ years of marriage. The reasons vary of course, but it’s important to understand that mature divorces are markedly different than divorces for younger couples. Divorce after many years of marriage requires a lot more untangling of lives, assets, debt, and emotions.” “People should prepare themselves,” continues Ronique. “You need a plan. It’s less expensive to live as a couple than as individuals, so first and foremost, you need a budget that funds both everyday living expenses and the cost of divorcing. And once you’ve figured out finances, you need to determine where you’ll live...if sharing the home is feasible and who will pay for what expenses while the divorce is pending among other things. You’ve shared a home for what seems like forever. Does selling

the home make sense? Are you expected to move if the divorce is not amiable? If so, where will you go? An expert who understands both the legal and financial ramifications of your situation can go a long way towards helping make a decision that’s right for you.” Divorce changes things financially, emotionally, and in just about every aspect of your life. But while it may be the end of one part of your life, it can be the start of a whole new beginning...even for persons in the autumn and winter of their lives. Ronique relays some of her own experience in her book, From Divorce to Deliverance: Divorce Doesn’t (Have to) Mean Devastation—a how-to guide that walks you through what to expect when involved in a divorce and the changes you’ll face, including detailed descriptions on how to survive the process with your sanity, dignity and spirituality intact. HEALTH MATTERS WITH DR. STEVE HARRIS WHERE PAIN RELIEF COMES NATURALLY

Five Herniated Discs...No Surgery by Amy Sharp

D

r. Rodney Bell, the choir director at Needville High School, has seen a chiropractor for most of his life. When he moved here several years ago, he started seeing Dr. Steve Harris at Sugar Land Health Center. It was chiropractic adjustment business as usual for Dr. Bell...until this summer. “I was noticing a rapid increase in lower back pain,” says Dr. Bell. “I just assumed it was because I had skipped a few adjustments. But Dr. Harris thought otherwise...something had changed and he ordered an MRI. The results were shocking...five herniated discs in my lower back. It quickly turned into the worst pain I had ever experienced in my life.” “The odds were certainly against me,” continues Dr. Bell. “Even Dr. Harris said it was one of the worst cases he had seen in 39 years of practice. But that is where I was lucky...I had Dr. Harris in my life. For many in that situation, the only recourse is drugs and back surgery. I wanted to avoid surgery. Dr. Harris told me he would give it all he had, but in exchange I had to stay really faithful to the treatment plan--a plan that included body alignments, electrical treatments, very strong decompression and laser treatments. I’ll be honest, the pain got worse before it got better...but Dr. Harris had prepared me for that. Each time you walk into Dr. Harris’ office you’re asked to mark your pain level on a scale of 0-10. On the worst day, I wrote down ‘SEVERE--14!’ But three days later, the pain started dropping rapidly. Now, I usually mark ½ or zero. It’s just remarkable!” As a choir director and teacher, Dr. Bell is very active...conducting music through use of his arms and playing the piano for hours each day. “As school starts back,” says Dr. Bell, “doctor’s orders are I can return to normal activity...and I’m a bit nervous about that. But my security blanket is knowing Dr. Harris is close by and I can go in if I need to!” “Dr. Harris is a very honest and ethical doctor,” continues Dr. Bell. “He truly wants you to be healthy. He shows you exactly what’s wrong, and explains how he’s going to treat it and why. He’s knowledgeable in both his wealth of experience and education on the latest chiropractic treatments, techniques and technology. And his office staff is fabulous. They really care about you... each and every time I’m there they go out of their way to make sure I’m comfortable.” Dr. Harris says, “What I do is not only safe care, but holistic care.

Planning for Death.

Are You Ready?

D

by Amy Sharp

r. Thomas Kolenko, owner of Freedom Chiropractic and Rehab, knows a thing or two about well-being. He’s passionate about educating his patients on chiropractic techniques and ways to improve health. And Dr. Kolenko is also a husband and a father. That’s why he engaged Fort Bend attorney Margie Connolly to look out for the well-being of his family. Dr. Kolenko says, “My oldest was born when I was 21 years old. At that time, we set something up so that if something happened to my wife and I, my brother-in-law would take care of my daughter. That’s it...we didn’t own anything. But things change as you get older. Now I have two children, a home, cars, and a business owned and operated by myself and my wife. Most of our family lives in Michigan and Florida. I was very uncomfortable with the ‘what-ifs’ should something happen to my wife and I.” “I knew it was time to get something in writing,” continues Dr. Kolenko. “And I know little to nothing about law and taxes. Margie guided us from beginning to end. We walked through every scenario step-by-step. We put together a will and trust that included our children, the business, our assets and medical directives. Margie just took care of it...she’s incredibly easy to work with. We are happy with the result, and now have the peace of mind that everything is ready to go should the unthinkable happen.” “No one likes preparing for death,” says Margie. “But 100% of us die. An estate plan simply

means putting a plan in place to take care of your loved ones, a plan for the distribution of your assets, and a plan to instruct loved ones on your wishes should you become physically incapable to make decisions for yourself. Everyone’s needs are different. That’s why--as I did for Dr. Kolenko--I walk you step-by-step through the process to understand your specific goals and expectations. Should the unthinkable happen, an estate plan will be invaluable in ensuring your family is properly taken care of.” Planning for death is imperative...and no one knows how much time they have. Call Margie to put a plan in place today!

Bring Your Old Home Up to

For affordable, beautiful and up-to-date new cabinets, call The Re-Modelista today!

Today’s Standards by Marie Page indy Reynolds’ Meadows Place home was built in 1969. “I lived there for 18 years, and then rented it out for several more. When I decided to move back in, I knew I needed to redo most of it. The kitchens and bathrooms were typical of that era, very small. Plus, nearly nothing in the home had been updated since 1969!” Cindy called the City of Meadows Place for contractor recommendations. The names they provided included Teri Gilberg, better known as the “The Re-Modelista.” “The City had used Teri before, and that gave me confidence that she was on their short list. I called her, she came over, and she was ready to jump into my project in just a few short weeks.” To bring the house up-to-date, Cindy changed out the flooring, repainted, redid the fireplace, remodeled the bathrooms, and the biggest project: remodeling the kitchen. “It was a small galley kitchen. Very unusable. I wanted to take out a wall to expand it and open it up, and add a peninsula with a bar. I spent years glued to remodeling shows and I had lots of ideas. I told Teri what I wanted and she made my dreams a reality. She really has an eye for color and putting things together. She even went with me to Floor & Decor to help pick things out. We went with a grayish palette for the floor and walls. The cabinets have a red tint with black trim and the countertops are black granite...and it all blends together perfectly thanks to Teri!”

Throughout the process of remodeling her entire home, Cindy never moved out. “Teri was great about working around my schedule, and making sure I knew what was going on each day. I absolutely love everything her and her crew have done in my home. Teri just has the eye to bring these older houses up to today’s standards. In fact, I’ve already recommended her to a friend looked to buy an older home!”
