17 ways to get more music fans TRONIX MADIBE Artist on the mission They say you need a thousand true fans to build a sustainable music career. Getting those first few diehard fans that play such a crucial role in building momentum can feel almost impossible when you’re just starting out. There are dozens and dozens of ways to get more fans for your music, but it’s ultimately going to come down to your level of commitment and finding the right balance of tactics that works best for your personal music career strategy. My advice below isn’t exhaustive, of course, but if you nail these 17 essentials, you’ll be well on your way to getting more music fans. 1. Know your brand. Before you do anything else, you absolutely must know your brand. Your brand encompasses and is impacted by everything you do, from how you present yourself (both in person and online), to how you communicate with your fans. Take the time to discover what’s truly unique about you, your artistry, and your story, then build out your brand identity from there.

MAY 2021 • ISSUE 25 •

2. Engage your fans. There’s no way around it — you have to engage your fans as much as possible if you want to maintain and grow your band’s following. It’ll require consistent effort on your part to keep them aware of you, deepen the relationships, and ultimately create superfans who will help promote you and support your career in the long run. 3. Be consistent. In order to break through the noise and hold the attention of the music fans you’re targeting, you have to be consistent across all of your communication channels. Whether it’s your email newsletter, social media pages, or new music releases, make sure you give your fans something to expect and look forward to on a regular basis.

17 ways to get more music fans CONTINUES 13. Experiment with Instagram ads. If you’ve ever used Facebook Ads Manager before, guess what — you already know how to set up Instagram ads, because it all happens on the same platform! Instagram is an excellent tool for both building your artist brand and reaching music fans where they’re already spending a lot of their time online. Just make sure you brush up on a few best practices for Instagram advertising before you get started, and then keep tweaking and experimenting to get better and better results. 14. Run a press campaign for your new album or tour. At first, you’ll probably want to start small and do it yourself. Even if you only get a couple of features on indie blogs, that’s enough to put you in a better position to score even bigger coverage the next time you have something newsworthy to announce.

15. Use Show.co’s music promotion tools. Show.co offers an impressive suite of marketing tools that are valuable for artists at any stage. You can use the platform to set up a presave campaign on Spotify, premiere a new music video on YouTube, build your email list, and much more. There’s a free tier that allows you to get started right away with basic campaigns and analytics, but you’ll need to upgrade to a paid tier in order to take full advantage of the features that Show.co has to offer. 16. Ride the wave of new social media platforms.

Keeping up with the latest trends in music discovery requires a pretty high level of proactive effort and timeliness. However, if you manage to spot the rise of a new platform and get in early before Once you start gaining significant every other musician jumps on the traction, though, you’ll want to consider bandwagon, you’ll reap the hiring a professional music publicist to benefits of an excited, attentive manage your campaigns for you. audience with very little competition. Think of TikTok, for example — it’s been a massive driver of music discovery for a younger demographic, and only recently have bigger brands started to catch on. You certainly don’t have to jump on every new social media platform you come across, but if something feels like it could be the right niche for you, why not give it a shot? 17. Release great music! When it comes down to it, if your music and shows are anything less than remarkable, you’re going to have a really hard time gaining true fans. Focus relentlessly on building up your songwriting and performance chops. If what you’re doing is really unique and amazing to your target audience, you’ll turn them into superfans who will gladly promote you to their friends and followers. Bandzoogle lets you create a professional website in minutes with all the music marketing features you need including a blog, mailing list, and social media integrations. Try Bandzoogle now! WHY NOT SHARE THIS WITH YOUR FRIENDS? Good advice from Tronix Madibe (Artist on the mission) It just show that creating music its great fun but then it is a hard work more than luck to get the recognition .All the best to everyone here. UPCOMINGMAG2019.WORDPRESS.COM

INTERVIEW: MTHIMBANE&FRIENDS

Hello, this is Dudu Khumalo, I am a member of Mthimbane and Friends, I am from Chawelo, I grew up in Soweto, I am a musician, vocalist, I discovered my talent when I was still in primary school, art is my life I discovered my talent when I was 6years old in primary; we are strong together by the way, with the other artists. I am a song writer, singer, composer, dancer, actress and I have two singles with Mthimbane and Friends, I have another single that I am preparing and we still have more adventures in music. I was once a presenter on Jozi FM, more than just radio. Hey, I am Marcus Mfukeng, I am from a place called Metsimahulu in Freestate, I am an author, script writer, singer, poet and that is me. Hey everyone I am Themba Nkwanakisi, I grew up in Soweto and Eastern Cape, the music career, I started during the 90s, I use to work with Godfrey Mokwena, the one who use to play for Lucky Dude on the keyboard. Now UMthibane and Friends, I am a composer, producer. Mthimbane and Friends is Dudu, Marcus and me, our group form 2018, the three of Us use to perform at weddings and we discussed to record a single called Umthetho which is available on social media platforms EG YouTube, the song is doing great but not that 100%, because we had challenges regarding Covid 19, but we are pushing very hard as we keep on rehearsing so Mthimbane and Friends can grow and have similar standards as other artists, we have another song that says, strong together, it is also doing well We performed it a week ago at snaone As I have mentioned before, it is not an easy journey but we are growing.

Upcoming Mag: Mthimbane and Friends was formed 2018, how did you meet and how was Mthimbane and Friends formed? It was a blessing in disguise, because Marcus was my son's teacher and he knew Themba and they were organising a group and the got disappointed by a female vocalist and I was asked to jump in and I was like yes, here comes a chance. Upcoming Mag: Can you please tell us more about your single, Umthetho? Thank you for asking that question. The song was composed seeing the abuse, happening in our country, male abusing women and women abusing men, our police are not working very hard to crack some of the cases that are facing gender based violence, with our song Umthetho, we saying to the police, guys pull up your socks, let us not wait until someone in the elite family suffer first before we do something, we say Umthetho maube Umthetho. Upcoming Mag: Do you deal with a specific type of genre or you do all types of genres? We are very versatile when it comes to genres, we do kwaito, afro fusion, we do soul, you know, we mix the genres for now. Upcoming Mag: Being the only female in the group, don't you feel over powered when it comes to making decision? No, I am the Shepard in this group, I am the mother, I must say, I am treated well, I am a Queen.

Upcoming Mag: What are you planning to do the rest of this year? Let's just hope this covid 19 thing is ending soon, our goal as artist or our goal as a group, we want to go big, we just want to go international, we do not want to be local only. Upcoming Mag: You have two singles, Umthetho and sinamandla, are you working on an album and if yes when will it be released. Our plan is to release a full album by the end of this year, October/November, we should have been in the studio in February but we will be in the studio starting next month adding more singles in our Album. Upcoming Mag: Where can people get your music? Fortunately enough, due to technology we were able to upload our music on YouTube, Mthibane and friends, Twitter, Facebook. Upcoming Mag: You guys said when you met you were performing at weddings, are you still performing at weddings? We would like to go back to our root, that’s where we started, things stopped when covid 19 started, people lost contacts with us, we would love to perform at weddings we were just focusing on our singles and pushing them.

MTHIMBANE&FRIENDS

Upcoming Mag: There many kids out there, some of them are in groups some will form groups, what advice would you give them as Mthibane and friends? Be patient, when you are an artist, you need to be patient, love yourself, and be true to yourself. Make sure you always find something that inspires you, give yourself time to learn from others, learn, and ask from people who know, people who can help you tomorrow, don't be everywhere, and don’t be tempted by things that happen around you. To add on what Dudu said, firstly this is what you do before you join a group is self - respect. And make sure that you respect the elders, do not be taken, get good advice, don't tell yourself you know everything. To add to that, you need to love your craft as an artist, have passion, and be able to learn new things and learn from others musicians.

Upcoming Mag: The is a lot of pressure in the entertainment industry and a lot of artist say they take drugs to relief the pressure, what is your opinion on this topic? It starts with the inner you, you cannot compare yourself with big artists, if you do that you will do drugs, be yourself, don't chase fashion, love your craft, and it is true, I seen big sounds engineers do drugs back in the days I cannot allow pressure to pressurise me to take drugs, let me be myself, let me Iive my life.

Greetings, I go by the name Lebogang kganyago a high school kid from Boksburg. I would describe myself as a very fun person to be around but most of the time people get confused because sometimes I like being alone and sometimes I like being around people, I read the energy and adjust. I am very adventurous, I am very bubbly, I am very Outspoken and I really love modelling because it encourages me to be who I want to be. In 10years time I see myself working as a gynecologist, I see myself as a well-known influencer, TV personality and a social media personality.

Upcoming Mag: We have recently seen video of Lufuno who was bullied in school, as a school pupil how can you protect yourself from bullying? I think I should encourage reporting, start a campaign, rebuild myself as a student.

I was raised by a single parent; my mom has been my paler of strength and my best friend,

Upcoming Mag: You are Upcoming Mag's May cover model winner, you won because you had the most votes, what would you like to say to people who voted for you? I would like to say thank you to everyone who voted for me, if it was not for you and God's grace, I wouldn't be here, so I like to say thank you and please continue to vote for me if I enter online competition and thank you so much, I really appreciate it.

The reason I want to be a influencer is I believe if I could influence people to do good.

Upcoming Mag: Can you tell us more about your organisation and what it does? Girls health matters is an organisation that helps young ones, most especially young girls, it distributes sanitary pads, to girls who cannot afford to buy for themselves and we sometimes have girl talks were we talk about the things we experience and the challenges we face.

Upcoming Mag: As someone who has started modelling I am sure you have seen models and have role models, what do you think makes a model? A good personality, potential goals and how you express yourself as a person and how you do things and how you accommodate people in your life.
