SMJ Da Vocalist recently released his latest single, “Umngani owu bae” featuring Leon Lee & Da Ghost and has some more information to tell us about himself. UPCOMING MAG | 5 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

INTERVIEW Q

Can you tell us about your career to date? A

I started singing when I was 8 years old and I started playing piano and writing songs when I was about 16. Music became a way for me to express myself in a way that brings me closer to others. It is, in fact the “universal language.” Songwriting is a very important aspect of my life. It has shaped me into the person I am today and constantly helps me deal with and manage life’s peaks, valleys and intricate emotional situations. I have performed on shows around Durban (KZN) and Pretoria and I recently found out that I have lot of artists who want to do collaborate with me, which is extremely inspiring! Also, my new single, “Mngani owu bae” came out on 3th February 2021 then I did a music video shoot on 4th March and I’m so excited about it. Everyone involved in bringing this song to existence worked so hardI’m talking about GNS Media, Leon Lee, Percy Sledge and Da Ghost. I’m so happy that it’s out and people are enjoying it!

Q

What inspired you to write songs? A

When I started writing songs, it was never anything serious. I wasn’t a great writer, but I kept going. It wasn’t until I was about 18 that I started taking songwriting seriously. The process was simultaneously magical… I got so fascinated and fell in love with it. I have managed most of my triumphs and disappointments through my songs. I think a major part for me was listening to music. I started listening to Zola, Mafikizolo, Professor, Nathi, Busiswa, to name but a few- I think that was the moment where it set in for me that songwriting was an actual thing that a boy could pursue in life.

Q& A

https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Q

Can you remember the first time you wrote a song?

A

I remember sitting on my desk at school and writing my first song, scribbling lyrics in my notebook and singing melodies. My songwriting abilities have definitely come a long way since then!

Q

Who did you play the early songs for?

A

I always have and always will play new songs for my family, friends and also people close to me. Any time I write a new song, I send them a voice memo!

Q

A

What’s the best advice you have ever been given?

I’ve received a great deal of amazing advice in my life. One thing that always sticks with me is Facebook friends telling me to “keep going.” As simple as that sounds, hearing that from someone I look up to as a person and as an artist is so encouraging.

Q

What was the song that influenced you to start a career in music?

A

DJ Tira influenced me to start a career in music. Before I discovered his music, I had an undeniable love for music, but it wasn’t until I came across his production particularly that made me start to believe music is something I could do professionally.

Q A

Which song you have written is your favorite and why?

UPCOMING MAG | 7

My current favorite song that I have written is my new single, which is called “Mngani owu bae (friends with benefits). I’m so proud of this song and I really hope people are enjoying and relating to it!

https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Q

If you could record with any music star, who would it be?

A

If I could record with any artist, it would be DJ Tira, Busiswa, Blaq Diamond, Dr Malinga. As previously mentioned this artists that aided me an understandingwhat it means being an artist and a singer/songwriter as a career that I could pursue. I have always wanted to be an artist and the fact that I have created music and been able to put it out and have people listen to it and tell me they love it is astounding. I really cannot put that feeling into words. They continue to inspire me today and I will forever be in awe of everything they have created in their careers.

Q

Who gave you the support to keep writing in the beginning?

A

My family and people I was close with at that time have always supported me, through everything. You really never know where it’s going to go with music and the fact that my family was supportive and encouraged me to chase my dreams is everything to me. Writing has always been one of my greatest joys and I could not imagine my life without it. I’m so grateful to have the support I grew up with.

KELSTAR

Kelstar - born Maresciay Kellyann Naidoo Daniel born in Vryheid KwaZulu Natal, now based in Johannesburg is a South Africa’s undiscovered diamond in the rough who sings in Isizulu, English and a bit of Portuegese. Even though she is a new kid on the block Kelstar has performed for some influential people in South Africa such as a former Johannesburg's Mayor Mr Herman Mashaba and Dr Mangosotho Buthelezi alongside Dj Sbu and Gareth Cliff at the prestigious event held to celebrate Johannesburg at the exclusive venue The Rand Club.

She has worked with many other musicians and producers globally. Her single a Bebe Bonnito was produced by Demor Sikhosana, not only that but she has also worked with Producers such as Patriso Boy (Portugal), Dj JT Cutmaster, Ceekay95 and Soulfleva (South Africa) and artists such as Ryan Drama aka Riggs, Chobi (France), Smart Bagi (Angola), Sean Burke just to name a few. Kelstar has been featured on several local and national newspapers like Daily Sun and Caxton's Germiston City News and also performed on the e-TV Morning Show SA as well as Shiz Niz.

UPCOMING MAG | 10 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

She might be an up-coming independent musician but Kelstar’s talent and voice is yet to be recognized worldwide given the opportunity. She is not just a musician but a songwriter, also an artist having sold her very first painting at an auction for R1000 not only that, she is also a fashion designer and has the looks and ability to go international. This shows that she is a brand with a lot to offer, having already started her own clothing label “Kelstar”. She is definitely one to keep your eye on because the diamond is gradually surfacing and is likely going to shine like none other ever shone before!!! It's a sad reality that social media numbers are what today's society depends on to measure talent because this is one artist that shouldn't be classified by likes or followers but by her being God's gift to earth through her beautiful voice. UPCOMING MAG | 11 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Kelstar has released only 3 singles and with these reached ears of many. her songs have been play-listed on Angolan, Brazilian, United Kingdom, porteugese and South African radio stations but this is only the beginning as Kelstar is working towards having her music played on all radio stations throughout the world and wants to confidently represent South Africa and to be valued and respected by the biggest names in the music industry globally.

UPCOMING MAG | 12

Her latest single, “My Amour” with a kizomba infused beat has already been play-listed on several radio stations globally and her vocals have caught interest of some big names who have offered to put together a remix package EP to help get her music more exposure as they feel her talent cannot go unnoticeable. The personalities range from Dj's and producers in all corners of the world such Italy, Germany, USA, Zambia, Ghana, India amongst them being Michael Jackson's sound engineer Dr Steve who worked with Michael 1989200. It is just a matter of time before the world knows about Kelstar as she has a few big projects coming up with some big names in the industry not only that but she has the looks to represent South Africa on international stages and as Aypopo says, "Everybody watch out".

MARCAVS MADRID

Marcavs Madrid was born Tumelo George Letebele on the 4th October and he’s a versatile musician ranging within the genres of Kwaito, Gqhom, New Age Kwaito and House. He is better known for his singles “Gaz’lam” and “Fly Away” which are available on all digital platforms. He works with Guess What Productions, South African independent record label.

UPCOMING MAG | 13 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

INTERVIEW Q : What can you tell us about yourself, your craft and your visions... Including what inspired the name, Marcavs? A : I’m Tumelo Letebele from Brandfort, a small town in Free State province born at Aartdoring Farm near Brandfort. At the aged of 5 I relocated to Brandfort in Nomzamo park location and started school at Monamodi Primary School. At Grade 7, I started music (kwaito genre) with my classmates. Those days we were inspired by likes of young Mzambiya, Chiskop and Tkzee. It was the only perfection I do; music. In 2002 I went to Akademia High School to start my Grade 8 and met various local artists and we started a group named Maskopas,

but Maskopas wasn't the future because when we were growing up we had different life visions. Then I went to play soccer at which I was also good in midfield position. I did my matric in 2006, in 2007 Pule Masimola and I started music again. Thats where I got my name Marcavs from my late brother- may his soul rest in peace… We Started Ak4fellas Kwaito group (3 members) and kept Free State buzzing by performing a lot until we were left as only the 2 of us. My vision is to be the best in Free State Province, to inspire and encourage other artists to believe that every dream is achieve-able. Also in whatever way I can, to help others reach their goals.

UPCOMING MAG | 14 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Q : You've performed at events such as Mahungra at Macufe Festival even as a solo artist. With all the limitations of the opportunities for upcoming artists to get a stage, which supports your statement that you've “kept Free State buzzing”… Can you share your experience on such stage performances? A : The experience we had from such big stages is huge and it changed my mindset as an upcoming artist. That boosted my career… I began to want to achieve bigger things in life. I got the experience 'mostly' on how to interact with the big audiences and how to entertain different human races at once. All I can say now is that I have gained a lot of stage confidence and it’s the thing I share with other upcoming artist..

Q : You received a certificate of appreciation from the Municipality Mayor… can you tell us more about that? A : Yeah...it was one of the best highlight of my career to receive an honor from the Mayor of Masilonyana Municipality showing love, respect, support and appreciation after scoping the 2nd music award nomination at MKHMA award (Mzansi Kwaito House & Music Awards) firstly same year was the SAUMA Award for Best Dance Category then South African Upcoming Music Awards which we won. That year I had represented Free State very well. 2 awards came to Free State Province by 1 duo, which was “us”.

Q : You've always between solo and a group or duo... Why's that and can you distinguish the two? A : Let me start by this, I started in a group, but things never turned out the way I had hoped for, because of some who enters the music journey for fame and others not delivering- in fact variety of visions. Duo is good, sometimes it is not good- let me break it; two different parties going into one direction will face the stage of disagreements and end up taking separate ways. While I was in duet 'duo' everything was running smoothly until the stage where career needs our attention 24/7-365... that’s where we noticed our differences and love for the music... Too many things happened until I decided to go solo. Now I’m solo under GUESSWHAT PRODUCTIONS owned by HLOKOMELANG 'HLOUKZ' KHAMA- Salute to him, the brother who made me the terminator I am today. Since I’m solo, everything runs at my own time, I don’t blame anyone for missing or failing this- If i miss today .. Tomorrow i will conquer. My advice to others is to keep solo to avoid unnecessary drama, so you can own everything to yourself.

UPCOMING MAG | 15 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Q : So you've won a couple of awards... Some of which you've already spoken about. Do you mind sharing all of them for inspiration sake to other upcoming artists? A : Ohk. Well for me I think I still want more awards to upgrade my music profile. Firstly there are certificates which I won as the best performer, all 3 of them… 2nd the Love Life award for Best Performance. 3rd the SAUMA (South Africa Upcoming Music Awards) for best dance category in Gauteng Province, Soweto theatre in 2018 4th one and the bigger one was from the MKHMA (Mzansi Kwaito House Music Awards) and I won for Best New Kwaito Artist at Carnival City in Gauteng Province. 5th achievement was last year when I was nominated on (Golden Art & Media Awards) GAMA AWARDS for Best Upcoming Artist, and this year I’ve been nominated for Best Amapiano Artist at BOLTZ AWARDS 2021.. I want SAMA OR METRO Award one day, and as dreams do come true when you put God first… 'Amen' because I believe the Amapiano EP I’m busy with will knock at big doors for me..

JAY HUSSLE MUSIQ Limpopo Born, Pretoria based Amapiano/Hip-hop artist JayHussleMusiq (27) has shown great appreciation to the SRD grant. The Musician has written a song of joy about the Social Relief Distress grant that unemployed South Africans are currently benefitting from government.

''I just wanted to show appreciation to the government for bringing the grant back, I know people always criticize our government, and that grant is making a big difference in people's lives'' The song has been receiving great love around Pretoria as locals have been calling it a month end Anthem. JayHussleMusiq believes the song is going to be one of the biggest songs in the country in the next coming weeks.

UPCOMING MAG | 18 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

INTERVIEW Q : Great... Can you please tell us a little bit about yourself and your visions? A : My Name is Tumelo Tladi, known as JayHussleMusiq.Born in Limpopo but based in Pretoria.I'm a musician. I've been doing music for the past 9 years. My vision is to see the Entertainment industry in Pretoria sustaining Pretoria artists more like the Entertainment industry in Durban. Q : Please tell us about the SRD track you've recently released. What came into your mind and inspired you to actually act on such a unique song idea?

A : Well, I’m an artist who’s on the ground. I know the conversations that random people are having, as people criticize the SRD Grant though there are those who are grateful for it. So the idea just came from such conversations with random people. So as an artist I created something from those conversations and the people love it. Q : How many reviews did you get about the track? Can you share the most good and terrible ones if there are any. A : Besides back stage comments about the song, I sent it for a review by industry colleagues who are on a larger scale than I am.

UPCOMING MAG | 19 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Q : Did you get your popularity after or before the stress relief track? And how has it been making music that only a limited number of people pay attention to? A : I won’t say a limited number of people pay attention to it. But a limited number of people get exposed to my music because my marketing resources are limited. The popularity didn’t come with the SRD song. People started getting exposed to my music back in 2019.

Q : Please highlight some of your music experiences which give you memorable feeling of excitement about being an artist... A : Being able to perform at the same shows with the likes of KO, Black Motion and Sje Konka is an excitement and a motivation on its own. Also seeing guys like Lolli Native shining is motivation to me because these are the guys who came from the ground just like me. Getting paid for doing what you love- now that’s luxury that most people don’t have.

The Black Print Two

Eney G spent over a year preparing The Black Print two which raised the bar from The Black Print which was released 2019, as an Artist myself I know how hard it is staying relevant and being able to move with the times, I am just impressed with have Eney G was able to handle both. Amen Normally comes at the end but this is The Black Print two therefore Amen is the first song on the album and this is one of those albums which you do not skip a single song because not only is the songs nice but the The Black Print Two is filled with songs you can relate to eg: Pressa Pusha Panda (at time we all here that voice in our heads that says give up) This is what Eney G had to say about The Black Print Two: “The first album is Days of Atonement, this album represent my right side of the brain, the second album is called The Black Print, this one represent my left side of the brain, and then theres Black Print 2 : inkanyez which represent my higher self.” You can stream The Black Print Two here: https://ditto.fm/the-black-print-two-inkanyez-album the Black print 2 album is out now 💯🐐🔥🔥🔥 . NAIJAH VEE

Viveecka Samuels is a 20 years old model and a dancer born in South Africa in the month of July and she grew up in the Cape Flats. Having encountered a lot of challenges at an early age, she’s proudly able to accomplish many more in her life from the lessons she learnt from them. She uses modeling and dancing as a technique to express herself and she’s grown into a powerful woman who is capable of doing greater things. She hopes to be recognized as Naijah Vee and for this to not just be a name but someone who can aspire and inspire our young adults in the Cape flats.

INTERVIEW Q : Can you please tell us a little about yourself as Naija Vee and your projects even your visions... A : So the reason why I went with the name Naijah Vee is to start afresh from what has happened in my life and I found this as a second chance. I started as Naijah Vee to show young girls that there is always hope at the end of the tunnel and we as young girls have purpose yet we should reach for those goals. As Naijah Vee I want to start being a role model to young girls not as if young girls follow role models these days but to make a difference. As Naijah Vee I want to help girls who suffer from their little bubbles and help them overcome whatever challenges they may face.

Currently I just had one project where I collect clothing which I'm still doing for young girls whose parents can't afford to buy that extra pair of clothing or for those who are living in poverty. I get all the clothing and give it to these young girls. My vision is to expand on my YouTube channel so that I can interact with many young girls, not just from where I’m situated but from different provinces as well.

Q : How has any of your crafts :modeling and dancing helped you deal with depression? A : With dance I can express myself and it helped me gain to speak through dance while with modeling I could gain confidence and build on my worth cause through modeling I got to find a new me.

UPCOMING MAG | 25 https://upcomingmag2019.files.wordpress.com

Q : You're a model and a dancer, and on top of that a philanthropist. That's quite a lot for a 20 year old to do on her own. What support system do you have through all these including your YouTube tunnel and a Facebook page? A : The support system I have is in the dancing, I got an amazing instructor that helps me and I take part in training wherever I can. With modeling I entered a pageant so I got a mentor who checks up on us or I will message him about ways to cope when it all gets overwhelming. With the YouTube and Facebook blog is tough because I started this on my own so now I have to cope on my own, manage on my own but I will always ask for advice and recommendations from people who are already doing these things or similar things. Q : Besides inspiring girls, what's your goal with both channels? A : Perhaps to grow into something where I can become an influencer and do online tutorials.

Q : Great... So as a dancer, what kind of music do you dance to and why that particular genre? A : Okay- I'm just starting so I do with krump. This is more expressive to me but I enjoy hip-hop too as its really expressive as well. Q : What have been specific challenges since the establishment of your Facebook blog and YouTube channel? A : I got people who don't support me I don't know why… right now the support is low but I'm still pushing through and trying to get through to those I can reach. Q : Any advice you'd like to give to aspiring models out there? A : The advice I will give to models out there is that it's not the make-up that makes you, not even your hair type or your body shape. It’s the person you are that carries you as a model because your walk and talk defines you, so walk firm, smile in the mirror and when you talk make sure you talk to inspire.
