Body Under Mind
from Fall 2021 zine
These issues hamstrung people’s everyday lives and could disable individuals from reaching their highest potentials or live their lives contently. What boils down to is that we, as humans, are all entitled to be regarded as valuable, including in terms of our bodies, and no one, not even the collective society, has the right to impose views that claim otherwise. Our sexuality is of our own and anyone who violates our bodies without our consent, shall be punished under the law and socially condemned. In fact, enshrined in Article 1 of one of my favorite legal documents, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is a statement that unequivocally states equality in dignity and rights of all people because we are all endowed with reason and conscience. Learning from this sacred document, we must stamp out norms and laws that hamper people’s dignity and freedom and we believe the first step to materialize such reality is by initiating a discourse surrounding body positivity and sexual consent.
