YEARBOOK

FROM THE HEADMASTER

Welcome to the 2023/2024 yearbook, a visual celebration of so many of the ingredients that have combined over the last twelve months to make Arnold House such an inspiring community.

The first section, over almost forty pages, captures all that is so special about the Pre-Prep. We are proud of how the setting is now established, providing our youngest three year groups with an outstanding environment to stimulate development in all key areas. The chairs and tables may be lower at Marlborough Place but our ambitions for the boys are not, and their curriculum is no less varied than the one their older peers enjoy. We look forward to seeing the first cohort completing the transition from Pre-Prep to Prep: they are certainly excited by it and have very strong foundations on which to build.

Looking through the Prep School sections, I am delighted by the happy-faced reminders of just how well we meet our stated goal of educating ‘the whole boy’. The day-to-day timetabled curriculum is not always the most photogenic and so publications such as this can lean away from the intellectual. You will find, however, plenty of evidence for intellectual development through Maths, Reading, Science, Chess, History, Classics, Geology, Debating, to name just a few. Every boy is enjoying creativity, whether in Art, Music, Design, or Drama, and physicality in a vast array of sports and contests but also on surfboards and kayaks, bicycles and climbing walls.

Two things stand out to me. Firstly, these pages show not just the curricular but the extracurricular and for that to be such a rich programme is testament to the staff, who work so hard in the classroom but also to take the boys beyond it. Secondly, the palpable sense of camaraderie and support that exists through the school, as we all help shape great citizens, not just fine-tuned brains.

Do enjoy all that follows, from Shakespeare to Skiing, and everything in between: Arnold House really is a special place to be.
