Meet Contributor Chanelle Modi-Wilson From London England “I was engrossed with the performing arts from a young age, attending dance classes from eight. But I truly found my love for acting when I was eleven and so the next step naturally was to apply to a Performing Arts school and that's when I applied to the Brit School at the tender age of thirteen,I had to audition and past a interview. I went on to get accepted. I first started acting at the age of eleven after going to secondary school (high school) and discovering that I enjoyed being on stage. Personally I found that I could be confident on stage and in reality I was shy and insecure. My mother wasn't particularly engrossed in acting, neither my father so I always felt a sense of independence around the arena of theatre and film”. Chanelle Modi-Wilson

Chanelle describes her talent as creativity and imagination at its absolute peak. Her goal is to become a fully pledged professional actor. Being able to explore different countries and also help others that aren’t exposed to the art of acting or story telling and just having a voice that can genuinely make a difference. Chanelle came up with the concept of 'Stars of Tomorrow' by actually noticing that there is a negative stigma stuck to teenager’s being moody and lazy. “But we are also ambitious and striving towards positivity as well”, so she felt that this should be recognized and appreciated. Chanelle says her family has supported her as best as they could and continue to encourage her. “I think the thing that keeps me grounded and focused on the arts and acting in particular is my love for the art and the freedom and buzz that I get from being part of a cast and being on stage”. But also being able to continuously be mentally challenged and consumed by something you believe can change peoples lives, also remembering the struggles that have been and that are to come, ground me and having a supportive unit, when some people haven't even got that at home helps me to stay grateful and therefore grounded. Chanelle’s plans for the future is to land a feature film and continue to land major roles mainly in television. Also keeping her love for theatre by stretching into the courts of theatre once making a debut in television. She'd like to then go onto drama school and to be a household name in the acting industry. In her spare time Chanelle enjoys watching movies, writing poetry and just having fun with her friends and family. Chanelle’s advice to teens wanting get in the entertainment industry is to be ready for rejection and not being the person that casting directors want. But to keep having faith and allow the rejection to motivate you. “Always stay committed, give your all and just to be aware of the high level of competition around you”.

There’s a distinct set of rules to surviving in the music industry and singer YOBi not only abides by them, she’s setting a few new ones in the process. The New York native, recognized for her magnetic personality, is relying on her keen knowledge of the business and innate talents to make her imprint on the R&B landscape. When other grade schoolers were busy throwing paint at their peers, YOBi occupied her time turning thoughts into poetic form. Growing up, the avid poetry writer also found within herself a natural ability to sing. The sounds of songstresses like Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, Aretha Franklin and Mary J. Blige saturated her household, inspiring her journey to capture the spotlight. “Whitney Houston was huge for me,” YOBi admits. “That was like my muse in a way. My mom would play Whitney Houston every night before dinner.” Though YOBi snagged talent show wins throughout her high school and college run by singing Houston’s power ballad “I Have Nothing,” the singer-songwriter has perfected her craft with a bevy of genres other than R&B, including rock and pop. Yet, after graduating from Stony Brook University with a degree in journalism, the performer knew embarking on an R&B career was her calling. While most entertainers take the plunge into the industry without knowing what to expect, the budding singer was well advised. In 2006, YOBi snagged a gig working as an intern for Interscope Records Promotions department. From working with artists such as Robin Thicke and Rich Boy to corresponding with DJs to get their records played, YOBi mastered essential tools to carry over into her own movement. 23

Easy Exercises Tips for Teens-Fitness and Health By:

zohaib

If you're a teenager, you may be confused about how to exercise to get stronger, stay healthy or, for some, the loss or weight gain. The good news is, there is no way appropriate for the operation and there is no perfect exercise you should do to be in shape. If it is true, it helps to know how you can work so you can have fun, achieve your goals and avoid getting hurt. Exercising

The great thing about sport for boys is that almost all the activities that make you move work. You should try to do heavy exercise for about an hour a day at least 3 days a week and regular, moderate activity for the rest of the week. Here are the different types of activities each week include: 1. Aerobic exercise strong. These include sports such as football, tennis, soccer, volleyball, basketball, etc. It also includes brisk walking, running, cycling, swimming or chasing an annoying brother. Always be sure to wear protection to any activities you have chosen and, as already mentioned, try to level of activity at least 3 times a week. 2. Strengthening muscle. This type of training helps you build muscle strength and endurance. This may involve activities that are not organized as the use of playground equipment or climbing trees. It also may include a structured strength training exercises such as squats, bending or sit-ups with weights, machines, or the weight of his body. Always work with adults, coach, trainer or other expert before you start lifting weights to make sure you know the right exercises to do and how to do it right. You can already lift weights if you play sports, but if not, you can add the kind of activity 2 or 3 days a week, with at least one rest day in between. Learn more about strength training for young children. 3. Regular activities. In addition to participating in a sport or other activities such as walking or cycling, you should also include regular activities in your day, which means limiting the time you're sitting at a computer or video games. This may include active games (like Wii or Dance Dance Revolution), a walk, fight with your friends, or throwing a ball in the yard. This is something you can do every day, especially on days you do not harder, the more structured training.

24

involves lifting an explosion, often focus on how much you can lift at one time. Type of training is not recommended for children because it is difficult to use good form and body can be stressed too abruptly, causing injury. * Exercising too. Exercising too much can also lead to injuries, overtraining, and, for girls, changes in the menstrual cycle, which can lead to bone loss. Sometimes it's hard to know how much is too much, so everyone can tolerate different amounts of exercise. However, the exercise several times a day or a few hours might be too much to anyone. Following the guidelines and exercising about an hour a day is a good starting point. * Expect realistic results. While it is good to have goals to improve your body, you can not always control what we can change. If you want bigger muscles, it is something that happens after puberty, although you can always build strength at any age. If you want to lose weight, exercise and healthy diet is the key, but do not expect a dramatic weight loss last night. Permanent, safe weight loss is a slow process and try to accelerate with a healthy diet or exercising often counterproductive. Tips for getting more exercise

If you are into sports, you may have practices, games and other activities to keep you busy. Otherwise, you may need to be creative in this sport, especially if you have not yet had the opportunity to practice different activities to find what you like and what you are good. Some ideas: * On foot, by bike or skate to and from school, if the option * Ask your parents if you can go to the gym with them or if there is a local community center where you can exercise * Check the network cable to see if you have Exercise TV, a channel offering free training whenever you want * If you hang out at the mall or local shopping center, take a walk rather than staying in one place or not eat at the food court * Create a new routine where you walk, run or inline skate every day, when you come home from school or before dinner. If you do not want to exercise outside of them, ask your friend or family member to go with you or use a video workout in your bedroom * Do some task. rake leaves or sweep the street can actually burn calories by making your parents happy * Take the dog for a walk

How to Have the Best Prom Ever By:

Tammy Ussery-Bakhtiari

Prom is one of high school’s most memorable social events. It is a time for juniors and seniors to have fun with friends and wrap up the school year. To be sure you look absolutely stunning in your prom dress, and that you have an amazing prom night, start planning now.

Lastly, make sure your dress fits well. Don’t buy a dress that is too small and hope that you are going to lose weight before prom, and if you are going to wear a padded bra under your prom dress, wear one when you are trying on dresses. And make sure your dress is comfortable! You want to be able to sit through dinner and dance all night long, so make sure your dress can do both.

Finding a Date:

Making Dinner Plans:

Having a great date is nice and having a terrible date can ruin your night. Start thinking about who you would like to go to prom with, and start making hints-very obvious hints. Guys do not always get hints very well. Also, think about what matters most to you. Do you want a date who loves to dance or do you want a low-key, easy-going date? Or, do you want to go to prom with the most attractive guy in school?

Restaurants book up quickly, especially is you attend a large high school where hundreds of students have prom on the same weekend. So make reservations in advance! If you are going to dinner with a large group, choose a restaurant with food that everyone will like. Yes, Sushi or Indian food is amazing, but people can be picky eaters. Choose a restaurant with pasta, salads, meat entrees, and vegetarian options. Also, think about everyone’s Many times, your best bet is to go with a close male price budget. Start looking for prom dresses and formal evening gowns as soon as possible. Be open to a variety of styles, and know what colors you look best in. Black is classic and slimming, but you are only in high school once--so don’t be afraid to explore deep blue, light pink, gold, plum, and other colors. If you want to be sexy, but not too sexy, choose a dress with a low back and then wear your hair up.

If you have an important birthday party, recital, or reception coming up, get your hair done by a stylist in the way you want it for prom. This way, if you do not love your hair-style the first time around, you can get it perfected the second time around for prom. Also, wear a buttoned-up shirt when you are getting your hair done. Then you will not mess up your hair when changing into your prom dress. Lastly, leave at least 2 hours to get your hair done.

Born in Houston, Texas on December 29, 1999 to a teenage single mother, who is also a very talented singer/rapper, in her own right, you could say that Marqus was raised by hip-hop. As a baby, Marqus was often on his mother’s hip in the recording studio or with his beloved Grandmother, also an avid music lover, so it was no surprise when Marqus learned to rap before he could talk. Music became his primary form of expression. Young Marqus, aka “YM, is a child prodigy, poised to be a new and exciting breath of fresh air in the Music Industry. At the youthful age of 10, Young Marqus instantly garnered the respect of industry veterans such as Lupe Fiasco and B.O.B As Marqus has grown up, he and his mother have endured many ups and downs in their lives together and were forced to confront severe financial hardships along the way. Where most would lose hope and succumb to the pressure of the many challenges life throws at you, Marqus became inspired and encouraged by his mothers example. He quickly learned to cope through his music,

expressing himself and channeling his perseverance through these hardships, even during the worst of times. During an especially trying period, Marqus and his mother were homeless; living in their car with nothing but a garbage bag to shield them from the gaping hole in the convertible roof. Marqus and his mother somehow found a way to escape their dismal reality by playing instrumental tracks on the car stereo and free styling, back and forth, with each other. To date, Marqus credits the struggles he and his mother successfully endured together in helping him hone his brilliant skills and providing the motivation he put forth in earning his merit as an Honor Student at his School. The accumulation of life experiences Marqus has overcome by his young age of 12, have given him a maturity and poise that is well beyond his years. Currently, YM is teamed up with Smart Boy/Grand Boy Entertainment for recording production and management. For bookings and further info, please e-mail: smartboy@smartboyentertainment.c om

Sports NASCAR star Greg Biffle offers tips to help 'give kids a smile' Put kids' dental health on the fast track (ARA) - When you're a NASCAR driver like Greg Biffle, driver of the No. 16 3M Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, nothing makes you smile like a trip to victory lane. But for millions of children in this country, that smile is impossible. Severe tooth decay often causes children to hide their smiles, and they're unable to eat, sleep or pay attention in class because of the pain.

Children's dental health is a major concern when you consider that: * One third of all children in America are without dental insurance. * More than 16 million children in the U.S. have untreated tooth decay, more than any other chronic infectious disease, including asthma, early-childhood obesity and diabetes. * Approximately 80 percent of tooth decay in this country is suffered by 25 percent of its children. * Household economic disadvantage is the single best predictor of tooth decay in children. * 51 million school hours are lost each year to untreated cavities.

Heat up your summer work wardrobe (ARA) - Your sweaters have made their way to the back of your closet and your scarves, hats and gloves have migrated to the top shelf. And now, as you rush to get out the door for work in the morning, you might feel less than enthusiastic as you take stock of your warm weather wardrobe. Your dresses have been in the line up longer than you care to remember and those shoes have seen better days. It's time to hit the mall and give your style a summer lift. Start from the top down. For everyone whose workplace blasts the air conditioning, you'll be happy to know that layering is in. "Try a three-quarters sleeve blazer or solid cardigan with bold floral patterns underneath," says Jessica Little, Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing instructor at The Art Institute of Wisconsin. Sheer, feminine tops are in this season, just don't forget to pair them with a camisole underneath. If you're looking for the most popular colors of the season, go with pastels, advises Victoria Sinon, academic director for Fashion Design at The Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago. "Don't be afraid to try pastels with vibrancy - that can really add some pop to your outfit," she adds. Now that you're set on top, it's time to work on bottoms. "The pencil skirt is still a staple," says Kristy Janigo, Fashion Design lead instructor at The Art Institutes International Minnesota. She advises that the length should be just above the knee, in black or a neutral color to match just about anything in your wardrobe. If your work environment allows it, you could try a suit with capri-length pants, recommends Janigo. Just pair the pants with high heels or a wedge. And if you're buying a dress for work, beware of the maxi dress. 34

Little cautions against anything that shows too much cleavage and advises you to pair the dress with a cardigan. Sinon recommends that you stay away from the maxi altogether: "You really want to look pulled together so don't wear some mid-calf skirt or a maxi dress, because you want to dress for the office environment." So what about your shoes? "Shoes are a great way to add a little flair to work wear for summer," says Little. She suggests a bright wedge or pump to make an outfit pop. While sandals may be popular for the summer, they may not work in your office environment. Flip flops are a definite no, but watch out for the dressy sandal that looks like a flip flop as well, says Janigo. Now that you're dressed, don't forget to accessorize for the season. Little recommends vintage accessories like hairpins and earrings with flowers. Sinon says that safari prints are back in style so try out a scarf with that pattern. Janigo is a fan of a skinny belt with a loose-fitting dress because that belt will give your look structure.
