Thank You Central Ohio forget to name people who may have hurt feelings based on my senility. I will just say that “you know who you are”. If you have read, written, delivered, taken photos, graphics, advertised, sponsored or partnered with me and UTS I thank you from the bottom of my heart. In 2003 when Urban Trendsetters first hit the stands, we were a bi-weekly publication. We later went monthly and for a short time, we were digital and online only. Boy did I catch flack for that!. The die-hard UTS fans wanted their “tangible” copy. “I want to hold it in my hand”, or “I don’t like to read magazines and newspapers online” was the response. Silly me, I thought I was keeping up with the new trends. You see, the problem with following other trends when YOU are the Trendsetter is that you no longer standout. Needless to say, we quickly went back to print and we are now back to printing bi-weekly. What I realized now is that other than to stop listening to others, I need to follow my gut.

Sharon S. Gordon Founder, CEO Urban Trendsetters News Magazine, Outreach Strategist

You see, God gave me the vision of Urban Trendsetters as well as what it was intended to be. Urban Trendsetters News Magazine is FREE, positive,

tising through CityView as well a few other surprises we have up our sleeves. I invite you to join me as I grow into the next phase of UTS. This journey would not be the same or mean as much without the support of my community.

When asked how what I feel was the best part of my 15 years publishing Urban Trendsetters my answer was easy…I had the opportunity to meet the first Black President. My favorite edition was the 2009 Inauguration Edition for President Barack Obama. My proudest moment was when I was awarded the 2016 President Lifetime Achievement Award by that same President. As I reflect on the past 15 years there have been so many great moments. I have had the blessed opportunity to meet, greet and hang out with some of the greatest people, most I had only dreamed of meeting. Although meeting celebrities is a great thing, I have enjoyed more than that, meeting the Urban Trendsetters in my very own community. Central Ohio is an amazing place to start a business. This year has so much in store for me and the fabulous team I have the pleasure to work with. Our advertisers, sponsors, and volunteers are indeed priceless and I appreciate all of them more than I could ever put into words. I suppose that’s why I just hug a lot. Sometimes words just escape me. I thought about trying to thank everyone that has been a large, medium or small hand in the success of this newspaper and the fact that we are still here. The list is too long and I am afraid that I will

During the American Civil War, Revels had helped organize two regiments of the United States Colored Troops and served as a chaplain. After serving in the Senate, Revels was appointed as the first president of Alcorn Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Alcorn State University) and served from 1871 to 1873 and 1876 to 1882. Later in his life, he served again as a minister.

He was a second cousin to Lewis Sheridan Leary, one of the men who was killed taking part in John Brown's raid on Harpers Ferry and 2 North Carolina lawyer and politician John S. Leary. In 1845 Revels was ordained as a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME); he served as a preacher and religious teacher throughout the Midwest: in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kansas. In his maiden speech to the Senate on March 16, 1870, he argued for the reinstatement of the black legislators of the Georgia General Assembly, who had been illegally ousted by white Democratic Party representatives. He said, "I maintain that the past record of my race is a true index of the feelings which today animate them. They aim not to elevate themselves by sacrificing one single interest of their white fellow citizens."[ Revels' term lasted one year, February 1870 to March 3, 1871. THE JOURNEY

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY & BUILDING A GLOBAL MINISTRY THROUGH MUSIC WITH DAVID LAMUS By Sharon S. Gordon

In a society that is currently so divided by so many factors from religion and race to sexuality and of course wealth or lack thereof, Columbian born and Ohio bread, Minister David Lamus is certain about why he is here and what he was sent her to do. As a minister of music in his home church located in Grove City, Ohio, David Lamus is following his calling of creating the Children of the Light Movement. This world-wide ministry’s goal is to create a movement that celebrates One God and One Love. Jesus loves you and that love changes all things. He defeated the things of this world and He brought us into the light. Are there problems in this world? Of course, many problems and they are difficult, but in the midst of those problems, God is there. Love is there. His promises are never broken. In many Latin American countries the spiritual realm is seen as much more readily prevalent than that of the United States. There is much need in every aspect in those countries- spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. People seem to grasp more to their faith in God and seek it in a deeper level. Through my experience growing up in Colombia, I have experienced God in a deeper spiritual level, and am able to take this deeper level of faith to others around the world, especially those who have the great need for God. I believe because I have experienced God at a deeper level, I am able to bring a fresh new inspiration to others to awaken spiritually to the things of God, wherever they are, be it the United States or any country in the world.

THE BEE - BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT THE FUNNY THING ABOUT BEES What can we learn from the life of bees? My first step into entrepreneurship and becoming a small business owner began when I signed my first independent consultant agreement with Mary Kay Cosmetics. From that day forward I knew that I would always be in business for myself if not full-time….certainly parttime; I am a firm believer that everyone needs more than one source of income. Since that time I have had different jobs or careers if you will to get me through slow business slumps so that I could provide for my children but even then I still kept my “side hustle or hustles” as an additional stream of income. I remained a Mary Kay Consultant for over 15 years. For me I am certain that my $100 investment was the best investment in my business education, and it has paid for itself a thousand times over. One of my favorite joys came from achieving a sales goal given by the company or my Director and winning myself a new crystal studded bumble bee to

add to the lapel of my red jacket. You see this was much like a gold medal on the lapel of an officer. It meant that you were out working and building your business. The visionary behind Mary Kay Cosmetics of course, Mary Kay Ash used the “bumble bee” as her symbol of success because as she stated “ Aerodynamically the bee shouldn’t fly, but the bee doesn’t know it and keeps on flying anyway.” During my own research about the fascinating life of bees, I also discovered the secret to their success… Honeybees achieve extraordinary things by working together. I am excited about the opportunity to share my vision of The BEE HIVE. This MOVEMENT will create a synergy of unity within our community and provide a platform to celebrate success, discover new opportunities and discuss matters that effect the economic survival and hope of the black community. It is my desire that everyone feel as we do, the importance of an eco-

nomic development plan to enrich and empower the urban community. In 1921, there existed several “Black Wall Street” communities in which African Americans thrived and our money transferred throughout our community. Why not now? This practice is common in every other culture. We must make it a priority in the Black community as well. Our over 1 trillion dollar buying power says it’s still possible. We can no longer remain a minority of major consumers.

GOAL #5 – Establish a Black-owned Bank either by acquisition, partnership or cooperative efforts to provide access to capital.

THE ULTIMATE MESSAGE OF THE UTS BEE EXPO: The creation, operation and success of black owned businesses is necessary in order to create economic empowerment for the Black Americans. This includes all black Americans… Somalians, Africans from Ghana, Nigeria and everywhere. We have no time for divisions. trillion in spending. Fifty years ago, African-Americans could buy everything they wanted or needed from Black business people. There were Blackowned clothing stores, hardware stores, laundries, cleaners, hotels, restaurants, cab companies, bars, grocery stores, fish markets, tailors, nightclubs, liquor stores, national and statewide newspapers, radio stations, colleges and other schools. Why are there so few Black businesses? African Americans make up more than 13% of the U.S. population, but only own 7% of the businesses there. The answer to this question will vary depending on whom you ask, but most agree that racism, discrimination and predatory lending are all factors because many aspiring Black business owners have been unfairly turned down by banks when applying for small business loans. Another factor is that there is a lack of economic and business resources in African American communities. This leads to a lack of education on how to properly start and manage a successful business.

Are there resources available to help? Yes, there are many programs available to assist African Americans and other minorities. Banks like Wells Fargo and Bank of America have special lending programs that make sure that African American business owners are getting the loans they need. Many non-profit organizations give grants and free training via workshops to minorities. In addition, many Black business events (conferences, workshops, etc) offer unique opportunities for African American professionals to network with key decision makers and others who can be of assistance. Finally, there are many magazines that offer weekly or monthly news and advice for Black and minority business owners. THE BEE MOVEMENT IS ON THE RIGHT TRACK! THE GOAL & VISION OF THE UTS BEE HIVES Create an atmosphere of empowerment for African Americans and increase Black Business awareness, importance and necessity in our communities.

YOUNG & TRENDY Millennials Love To Travel & Shop at Airports?? In addition to being hyper connected and digitally driven, Millennials are focused on personal experiences. And for many, those experiences happen away from home. Notably, Millennials are very interested in travel. In fact, they travel more than any other generation, including Baby Boomers, and they’ll likely travel more as their incomes and financial standings grow. But Millennials don’t simply represent another generation of travelers. Their preferences and lack of predictability make them different from their older counterparts. At the same time, this uniqueness means that the travel industry will need to adjust in order to meet their specific needs and desires—particularly when it comes to retail. That’s because while the retail travel industry has evolved over time, it hasn’t faced major consumption shifts. In fact, traveler shopping habits have been somewhat predictable over the last few decades. That predictability ended with this new generation of consumers. Today’s Millennial travelers have distinct approaches to travel, largely because they want to control their experiences—a notable shift from how older generations were more likely to allow brands to drive their travel experiences. MILLENNIAL TRAVELER SHOPPER TRENDS Nielsen’s recent survey of global Millennial travelers found that more than 63% have purchased a premium or luxury item in the watch, jewelry, clothing, bag, accessory or spirt category in the past year. Additionally, another 4% said they plan make a premium or luxury purchase soon. And when asked about why they visit shopping areas after passing through the security of an airport, to buy themselves a treat comes up almost one-third of the time.

"Madam Walker, as part of the first generation out of slavery, really was inventing the way that she operated in the world," says Bundles. Walker took inspiration from the National Association of Colored Women to invent the business model that is known today as direct sales. She admired the NACW's politically active and civic-minded organizing and found their networking structure to be the perfect template upon which to model her corporation. By educating sales agents and creating an institution that supported employees on a local and national level, Walker's business saw great success. She eventually expanded her business across the United States, Central America and the Caribbean. In 1917, Walker held a meeting with 200 of her sales agents from all over the United States. Walker gave prizes to the women who had sold the most products, as well as to those who had contributed the most to charity. This idea was inspired by her "close friendships" with contemporaries such as Mary McLeod Bethune, Ida B. Wells Barnett, W.E.B. Du Bois, James Weldon Johnson and Booker T. Washington. Companies like Avon and Mary Kay have Walker and her colleagues to thank for the direct sales model. She empowered others Walker used her business success to help people in her community help themselves.

Bundles described how important this was: "Part of the genius of Madam Walker is that she saw in some way that her hair-care product became a means to an end. It allowed her to help other women with their own haircare needs, but it also allowed her to provide economic opportunities and job opportunities for other women who were experiencing the same kinds of problems that she was experiencing. "In doing so she helped them become economically independent." She created a legacy Walker's business legacy lives on through the newly imagined Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture line by Sundial. Madam Walker's original formulations from the early 20th century have been transformed using 21stcentury science while staying true to Walker's vision: Using the highest quality ingredients, providing options for women of all hair textures, and keeping hair health as a major priority. Even the packaging references Walker's original designs. "I think Sundial has done an excellent job of referencing the past, bringing it into the future, and speaking to Madam Walker's legacy as a pioneer of the hair-care industry and beauty culture, while also empowering women," says Bundles. The Madam C.J. Walker Beauty Culture line comes at a crucial time, during important discussions of implicit bias regarding hair type and style.

TRENDY PALATE Here's What Happens When New Supermarkets Start Appearing in Low Income Neighborhoods

Researchers have completed a study on the effects of opening supermarkets in low-income neighborhoods. The surprising results showed that the benefits to low-income families went way beyond health, improving other aspects of their lives, including economic. Low-income families often live in areas that are referred to as "food deserts," meaning there are no places to buy fresh produce and other healthy food choices. But after studying a low-income neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where a new supermarket opened after decades of absence, researchers found that the benefits included so much more than just improving health. The health benefits included: 10 percent fewer new cases of high cholesterol 7 percent lower cases of arthritis among residents compared with new cases where there is no supermarket available Slower increase in diabetes The non-health-related benefits included: Household incomes increased Participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) dropped by 12 percent Although more research will be done, it does appear from the study that locating supermarkets in low-income neighborhoods not only improves diet and health, but also includes economic improvements by creating more job opportunities, generating tax revenues and increasing customer traffic to support other businesses. TRENDY TRAVEL DON’T FORGET TO LOOK FOR THE BEE WHEN YOU TRAVEL African Americans love to travel, and according to a research study, we spend nearly $50 billion a year on U.S. travel alone. During our explorations, however, we don’t always make it a priority to support blackowned hotels and bed-and-breakfasts. “Like any industry, we’re stronger when we operate together. But beyond the economic reasons, and the pride we feel in supporting our family’s success, it’s also a matter of perspective,” says Kalisa Martin, co-owner of the Runaway Jamaica. “When I go abroad, I’m genuinely interested in the local culture and getting an authentic view of it. But I'm also especially interested in the black experience of that place. The Diaspora is everywhere we are, and staying at black-owned hotels and B&Bs automatically taps us into that scene,” she adds. According to Andy Ingraham, president and CEO of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers, out of 58,000 hotels in the U.S., African Americans own approximately 700. But that number is increasing. “Most of the major brands are making an effort to attract diverse ownership,” says Ingraham. “We [also] have a large and growing African-American business community looking for opportunities, and the hotel business is an attractive investment.” So when you’re planning your next trip, add these four new and popular black-owned properties in the U.S. and the Caribbean to your itinerary. 1. The Ivy Hotel Tucked away in Baltimore’s historic Mount Vernon neighborhood, the Ivy Hotel is coowned by Eddie C. Brown—chairman, CEO and founder of Brown Capital Management, the second-oldest African-American investment management firm in the nation—and his wife, Sylvia. “We weren’t originally seeking to be in the hotel business, but the sun and moon aligned to have the opportunity to purchase a historic mansion, literally across the street from my firm’s corporate headquarters,” says Brown.

Housed in a renovated 19th-century mansion that was formerly the site of the awardwinning Inn at National Place, the 18-room Ivy opened in 2015. The luxury boutique hotel prides itself on the highest level of cuisine, service and ambience, and it is distinguished by decor that marries modern amenities with one-of-a-kind antique pieces. Each guest room and suite has a customized layout with a fireplace and canopy bed. The hotel also boasts an intimate spa and the

Set in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the 340-acre, equestrian-inspired property has 168 guest rooms and suites and a world-class spa. Several wineries along Virginia’s wine trail are nearby. “It has been nearly three years since we opened our doors, and the reviews have been amazing,” says Johnson. “I wanted to create the finest resort and spa experience on the East Coast. The project was a decade in design and development, but it was well worth it.” 4. Rock Cliff Jamaica Rock Cliff Jamaica is a high-end, allinclusive resort near Ocho Rios. The 13room property had been unoccupied for many years until entrepreneur Stephanie M. Clark and business partner Kez Ford—the former owner’s son—took over in 2015 and created Dreamers Resorts, LLP. “I feel honored to be one of very few African-American women to own and operate a hotel,” says Clark. “My plan was to open a small B&B within five years, but God’s plan was much bigger than mine.” Rock Cliff boasts a waterfall swimming pool, tennis court and a private beach. The 7,000-square-foot main house, perched on 1.5 acres on a cliff, offers an idyllic backdrop for weddings and retreats. All rooms have en suite bathrooms and kitchenettes, and 10 of the guest rooms are built into the cliff with stunning views of the Caribbean Sea. Tracy E. DIVERSITY TRENDS Diversity in Travel...What Are the Numbers? When you stop to think about it, travel is perhaps the one thing we all have in common. Man or woman, black or white, old or young, rich or poor. As people, we all have that innate sense of curiosity and a desire to explore different parts of the world. Across the board, humanity is inspired by this single idea. It’s often what brings us together. It’s the common goal that we all share. And yet that diversity is not apparent in the industry that exists to meet our demand to travel. According to a recent industry report on diversity from Skift, the overwhelming majority of airline pilots are white men. Over 80% of tour guides in America are white. Less than 4% of US travel agents are African American. So it seems that there’s a problem here. But morality and social equality aside, how does it affect the travel industry? How does limited diversity affect travellers? Authenticity If there’s one thing that travelers look for at every stage of the vacation experience, it’s authenticity. They want to deal with people with local expertise as part of the booking process. They increasingly want to be immersed in local culture when travelling abroad. If any issues arise during or after the trip, they want to be able to contact someone real, someone clued-up and knowledgeable. All of these things can and will be undermined by a lack of staff diversity across the board. The bottom line is this: A whitewashed travel industry simply isn’t representative of either its customers or the locations it sends them to. This in turn undermines the credibility of many agencies and operators claiming to be ‘in touch’ with what travelers want to experience and the destinations they are taking them to. Low diversity is less appealing to minorities growing in spending power Okay, so we get that having travel staff representative of the consumers they serve is an important part of the process. But what many agencies and travel operators don’t realise is that a whitewashed, outward-facing workforce is offputting to a huge chunk of potential travellers. “When one considers the rapidly increasing buying power of women and people of color, the opportunity costs for a lack of diversity can be massive,” said Genhi Bailey, Director of Diversity and Inclusion from the law firm DLA Piper while speaking to Fortune. To give you a clear example, according to travel marketing firm MMGY Global, AfricanAmerican vacation spending grew 52% from 2015 to 2016. Boom. Diversity leads to better products Again speaking with Fortune, Gillian

Travel Industry diversity doesn’t change overnight There are two things to take note of here. First, these figures from Skift only represent the situation in America. And second, things are slowly beginning to improve, especially if we compare the figures above to those from the year before. See charts. Despite slow progress in the right direction, travel brands’ employees simply have to represent the increasing diversity of the world’s travelers. The fact is that, in the USA at least, the travel industry remains a sea of white faces. So what can the travel industry do?

It is perhaps travel agencies and tour guides that show the most surThis is a difficult question to answer. prising levels of non-diversity. 81% and 70% respectively were found to There are plenty of ways to improve the be white. In a country as multicultural as America, this is a trend that level of diversity across the world’s travel can’t be ignored. Tans, CEO of Booking.com, pointed out the positive impact that staff diversity has on productivity and creativity. “We have built out the diversity of our product teams and we saw the caliber of our testing and experimentation improve significantly,” she said. We found we were able to create better, customer-centric product features more quickly with a more diverse product team.” Diversity in the travel industry – the numbers In Skift’s annual travel industry diversity report, we have to first point out that the data was taken from the US travel industry, and therefore the results can’t be generalized to agencies and operators around the world. But what we can say is that the following statistics represent a worryingly low level of diversity, even if it is slowly improving in the US. Every travel industry job sector surveyed in Skift’s report increased its percentage of non-white employees from the previous year. But the numbers are still low. Take a look at the charts. According to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, airline pilots represent the most white faces of any occupation in the travel industry last year, at a whopping 91%. Clearly, the travel industry can’t be held solely responsible for this; there are of course

IGNITION THE TESLA THE NEW MODEL3

SAN FRANCISCO -- Tesla has all the tools to meet its planned Model 3 production rate in the first quarter. The only problem is they are still in Germany. The electric-car maker, which is still targeting about 2,500 of the cars a week by the end of March, has designed a new automated system for module production for its U.S. battery factory near Reno, Nev. The line is working at its German Grohmann unit but it needs to be shipped to the U.S. next month before it can go into use, CEO Elon Musk said. "That's got to be disassembled, brought over to the gigafactory and reassembled and then brought into operation at the gigafactory. It's not a question of whether it works or not. It's just a question of disassembly, transport and reassembly," he said on a conference call Wednesday. Once that milestone is completed, Tesla will need to fix material handling constraints at its Fremont, Calif., assembly plant before it can reach its 5,000-aweek goal by the end of June. Tesla has pushed back its Model 3 production tar-

gets several times and is banking on the more affordable model to propel it from niche EV maker to mass-market manufacturer. The slower ramp means less money is coming in from customers taking delivery, and Wall Street is watching closely for any signs the targets could slip again. Timing risk Jeffrey Osborne, an analyst at Cowen & Co., said the cross-ocean line relocation makes Tesla's first-quarter output goal an "extremely aggressive" target. George Galliers, an analyst at Evercore ISI, warned of "timing risk" around the reassembly process. CEO CAREERS / ENTREPRENEURS / OPPORTUNITY

Five Reasons Why You Should Consider (NAPSI)—Cybersecurity, as an industry, is one of the highest-paying, fastestgrowing and most in demand in the U.S., yet there are not enough skilled professionals in the pipeline to fill open positions, leading to a sizable skills gap. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) finds that the demand for information security analysts who can prevent data breaches is expected to be very high over the next decade. From 2016−2026, BLS projects employment to grow 28 percent, with 28,400 additional jobs added by 20261.

WHAT ARE SOFT SKILLS?

Soft Skills are the interpersonal qualities that impact how you interact with people, solve problems, critically think, manage time and maintain a positive attitude. Our Training Will Help You and/or Your Team Improve in Many Areas Including:

Despite the growing need, a University of Phoenix College of Information Systems and Technology survey found that only 18 percent of the 2,016 U.S. adults surveyed were interested in pursuing a cybersecurity education or profession. Cybersecurity can be a rewarding career, especially for those who want to help organizations or be part of a dynamic industry. Maurice Gibson, assistant dean at University of Phoenix, shares five reasons to pursue a cybersecurity career in 2018. 1. Cybersecurity Careers Are Here to Stay With the rise of technology comes increases in cybercrime, according to data from Cybersecurity Ventures2. Gibson believes technology has converged with nearly all industries, meaning more companies will need trained professionals to combat hackers in the future. In fact, LinkedIn listed network information security as the sixth most in-demand skill for today’s digitally advanced working world3. Cybersecurity spending is expected to exceed $1 trillion between 2017 and 2021, finds Cybersecurity Ventures, driving the need for more qualified professionals. 2. Job Opportunities Across Nearly All Industries As technology converges with business, Gibson says nearly all companies will soon become tech companies, providing cybersecurity professionals with myriad job opportunities across numerous industries4. Cybersecurity jobs are no longer shoehorned into only the government, finance or technology industries. From retail and health care to media and start-ups, cybersecurity professionals may have the option to choose an industry they most want to work in. 3. Competition for Jobs Remains Low With more open jobs than people to fill them, competition continues to remain low in the cybersecurity workforce. The BLS projects employment of information security analysts to grow 28 percent from 2016 to 2026, much faster than the average for all occupations5. Gibson says individuals seeking a growing career with plenty of job opportunities should look no further than cybersecurity. 4. Near Top in Compensation For many Americans, a good salary is vital for job satisfaction. Glassdoor found that nearly 70 percent of people say that compensation is among their top considerations when pursuing a job6. High salaries is another reason to pursue these careers, according to Gibson. BLS reports the median annual wage of an information security analyst is $92,6007. Salaries can even exceed six figures in top markets as companies compete for skilled professionals8. 5. Skill Set Is Transferable to a Number of Industries With a deficit of skilled cybersecurity professionals in today’s workforce, IT employees may be expected to help manage system security and infrastructure. For this reason, Gibson suggests that having cybersecurity experience can help when changing careers. He says many of the IT skill sets that cybersecurity professionals possess— such as coding, systems administration and data analytics—can be useful résumé additions for just about any job in the tech industry.

College Advantage Achievements COLUMBUS, Ohio- Effective Jan. 1, 2018, the $2,000 state tax deduction for contributions into Ohio’s 529 college savings plan has doubled to $4,000! This means Ohioans who contribute to CollegeAdvantage in 2018 can now deduct up to $4,000 from their state of Ohio taxable income. The $4,000 deduction is per contributor (or married couple), per beneficiary, per year, with unlimited carryforward. Ohioans who contribute more than $4,000 per year can continue to claim the state deduction until all their contributions have been fully deducted. It is important to know that the $4,000 is not a cap on contributions and the new deduction is for all contributions regardless of when the contributions were made. Another achievement for CollegeAdvantage is the growth in assets. In less than a year, CollegeAdvantage’s assets under management have grown from $10.35 billion to more than $11.3 billion. This is a growth of over 8.4% in assets under management. The program’s low-cost, flexibility, investment line -up and growth in assets makes CollegeAdvantage the sixth largest 529 college savings plan in the country. Individuals who save through CollegeAdvantage have a choice of two different plans: CollegeAdvantage Direct 529 Plan for the do-it yourself investor or BlackRock CollegeAdvantage Advisor 529 Plan for those who prefer the help of a financial advisor. “Now more than ever is the time to save and invest for educational or training costs after high school,” according to Tim Gorrell, Executive Director of Ohio’s 529 Plan, “and Ohio’s 529 Savings Program can be your trusted partner in realizing these savings goals.” For as little as $25 families can open a CollegeAdvantage account. Families can easily contribute through payroll deduction, recurring contributions from a bank account or occasional online contributions. Funds saved in CollegeAdvantage (and other 529 plans) are tax-free when used to pay qualified higher education expenses. About CollegeAdvantage: CollegeAdvantage is Ohio’s 529 college savings program, offered and administered by the Ohio Tuition Trust Authority, a state agency under the Office of the Chancellor of the Ohio Department of Higher Education.
