Involving kids in planning family vacations not only helps them appreciate the overall benefits of travel, but offers an opportunity for even the youngest kids to learn lessons about budgeting, saving and essential money management they will encounter every day. If you have trouble tearing your kids away from their smartphones, you might be in luck. The technology kids use can be very effective in budgeting, pricing and planning travel. Surfing travel destinations can teach kids a great deal about what travel really costs. The first step in planning the family vacation should be creating a budget for the trip. Set a realistic dollar limit for the trip and be prepared to discuss why that limit exists. For

locations and costs.

Putting the kids in charge of travel planning gives them an opportunity to learn about trade-offs. For example, a cross-country trip that involves substantial transportation costs might contain a valuable lesson in finding affordable accommodations. Depending on the age of the children doing the research and how much advance time is available to plan the trip, they can also learn how traveling in season and out of season might help the budget. Many peak summer destinations become significantly more affordable if a family chooses to travel over the winter holidays. Above all, trip planning can teach an important lesson in spending and savings. If children want to buy souvenirs or treats on the trip, that’s an opportunity to have them set aside part of their allowance or chore money

to pay for their special purchases on the trip. To get them started, help them save for their goal using this online calculator (http:// practicalmoneyskills.com/savingforagoal). Finally, once everyone is home, parents and kids might find it useful to discuss how the vacation went overall and what improvements can be applied next time. Encourage kids to start researching next year’s destinations immediately so the money and activity conversation can begin even earlier. Bottom line: Involving your children in family vacation planning allows them to see the world and to practice good budgeting, saving and spending habits. A girl’s father is one of the most influential people in her life, from infant to toddler to tween to teen. A father, dad, poppa, daddy, granddad, whatever a girl may call her father figure – he has such a big impact on a little girl’s development into a strong, confident woman.

childhood to adulthood. They have partnered together to form a Girl Action Team to launch Date With Dad. Fathers and daughters will once again gather in Central Virginia to walk, run, play, dance, and just have fun during the 2015 Date With Dad Weekend, Friday, March 20-Sunday, March 22, 2015. And not only will the weekend’s events be attended by Richmond native, actor Chad L. Coleman, a cast member of the top rated cable television show, AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” since 2012, but other celebrities will join him for this starstudded weekend.

Because you loved me I overcome And I’m so proud of what you’ve become You’ve given me such security No matter what mistakes I know you’re there for me You cure my disappointments and you heal my pain You understood my fears and you protected me Treasure every irreplaceable memory and that’s why…

Recent studies from the University of Canterbury and Vanderbilt University show that fathers provide unique benefits to their daughters through their active and positive presence from the time of birth through adulthood. In fact, numerous studies have reached the same conclusion: Children with involved fathers have an advantage -- socially and academically -- over children with distant or no relationships with their dads. “We found that fathers who are involved with their children have children with fewer problems,” says Maureen Black, PhD, a researcher and professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. “That added involvement from a father helps children tremendously.”

According to a study at the University of Illinois, children with fathers who take the time to ask about what they learned in school and their day-to-day social activities and relationships do better in school than kids who don’t have that kind of input or interest. And it’s important to note that this father figure doesn’t have to be a biological father in order for children to benefit. It can be an adoptive father, stepdad, or an adult male in the household.

Nationally Syndicated Radio Personality, Tom Joyner, known as “The Fly Jock,” will also be in attendance for the Date With Dad Weekend. Joyner, whose morning show recognizes and awards fathers weekly during his “Real Fathers Real Men” segment, will speak to incarcerated fathers as part of one of the Date With Dad events, and he will also publicly encourage fathers and daughters to attend the weekend. Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter of The Roots, a critically acclaimed hip hop/ neo soul band (house band for late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon since 2009), will also support the weekend with some special words for the fathers and daughters in attendance, and the announcement of a special father-daughter health initiative.

Father and Daughter The bond between father and daughter happens instantly, starting right at birth, When a father first lays eyes on his little girl he loves her more than anything on this earth, When a daughter grows older her father is the first man she will love, And the last one her father will have trouble letting go of, In her eyes he is the closest thing to God, in her eyes he is a King, To her father she means the world, she means everything. When a daughter grows up to be an adult and mature, Her father will always be there anytime she still needs dad to help her, To give her advice or just-for anything she will ever need, The bond between father and daughter is the most important bond indeed, It cannot be broken when she finds a man, and becomes his wife, It cannot be broken even in the ending of either ones life, A daughter will always have the memories of her father, her best friend This bond has a beginning, but there is never an end. The bond between a father and daughter is so profound The love shared is well renowned, From the beginning of his daughter’s life, he is a changed man, At that moment his life really just began. From the moment their eyes meet, Two souls instantly become complete. Watch Videos on: UrbanViewsWeekly.com www.UrbanViewsWeekly.com

That’s what friends are for! You’ve landed your dream job. Your next step: make sure it doesn’t become a nightmare. Consider these nine ways to tap your network. When sharing news of your new position with friends and family, don’t forget to ask for guidance. Most people want to support your success: the biggest challenge is asking the right people for the right things. Don’t ask one person for everything you want to know. Ask one or two questions from a diversity of people in your network. Consider those areas that might be a challenge in your new position. Request recommendations for conferences and workshops your peers have found valuable. There are many to choose from, but an experienced fundraiser, executive or college president will refer you to ones that are specifically relevant to your position, rich in content, and that include opportunities to build your network. Ask for a view of the road ahead. Meet one-on-one with individuals who are more experienced and who have a successful track record. Ask about the obstacles you may be up against, and how to overcome them. Too often we don’t know what we don’t know and then feel “blindsided” by events that are actually par for the course. Create an advisory council of friends, associates and peers. Call on these people proactively as you develop strategies. Depending on the opportunity, you may want to talk with someone who knows your community, or someone from out of town who won’t be competing for the same resources. Expand your advisors to include people 8

who can help you manage stress. In fundraising – as with many other businesses – stress can take you out. Include your personal trainer, life coach, minister, or prayer partner as an advisor. If you are married or in a committed relationship, ask your peers about how they include their spouse in their many workrelated commitments and how they protect their relationship from the strains that a fundraising career can impose. Ask now; don’t wait until the stresses pile up. Create a “listening tour.” Talk to people in your department, across the organization, and community. Learn the good and the bad related to your position and ask “how can I be most successful?” If possible, talk with your predecessor. Put what you learn to practice. After all the talking create a plan for your first three months on the job. Map out how you will use the guidance and information you have gained. Once on the job, create a climate where people can make suggestions. Whether the old fashioned suggestion box, or its electronic counterpart, stay open to suggestions and you will grow in your career. Whether taking a position as a development director, data manager, or executive director the time to ask – and listen, listen, listen – is now. The second style is formal. It is a more traditional approach. These photographers take mostly posed photographs. Finally, some photographers use a mixture of both philosophies.

Research Photographers First, look on the Internet for photographers in your area. Many photographers specialize in specific types of events. Be sure that the photographers who interest you match the type of event you are holding. Photographers usually display their best work on the Internet. Remember that everyone is capable of getting a good shot every now and then, but you should see a wide range of striking images that displays their

Professional photographers are experts at capturing a memorable or special event. The best photographers are reliable and responsible. But you don’t have to break your budget to find one. Follow these tips to help you find a photographer in your area.

capability. Follow them on Facebook and other social media. Professional photographers prefer to publicize their work using the latest technology. It will give you a feeling of their portfolio as well as how busy they are. Once you have your list narrowed down to two or three, contact them to check their availability. High-quality photographers are usually in demand, especially during holidays and certain times of the year. It is essential to plan ahead. You can also inquire with your social network about photographers they have used, especially if they have photos of themselves that you like.

Interview Photographers When you find two or three photographers, who are available, conduct personal interviews with each of them. Explore their backgrounds and look at a complete portfolio. Ask each professional if they have ever worked with the other vendors you have hired or are

Inquire about whether you will receive printed proofs, or if they are available through a private page for you or anyone interested in buying them. A high-quality professional will be able to bring out the best in the subject. He will capture the essence of the moment and preserve it forever. You should be offered several options concerning poses, prints, sizes, backgrounds and other elements. Read the contract thoroughly before hiring someone. Professional photographers should be willing to give you a contract. A deposit will hold your date. Expect to have it available at the signing of the contract. Also understand when other payments are due. Most photographers expect another payment when they appear at the event. Choosing a photographer will often come down to your intuition. But don’t delay, as the best photographers are usually in demand. And make sure you understand everything in the contract before you sign it.
