ABOUT

Bristol will be returning to its roots this season as the club enters the new version of the Appalachian League with the same name it used when it began its second foray into the league exactly 100 years ago as the then-newly renamed State Liners. In addition to recognizing the centennial anniversary of Bristol’s return to the Appy League in 1921, the team’s name also celebrates the unique nature of the Twin Cities which share the same name and lie directly across the Tennessee-Virginia border from each other. The boundary between the two cities is also the state line, which runs along State Street in their common downtown district. To further celebrate the historical connection, the team’s logos will use the same blue and red coloring that appear in the American flag, and will incorporate a cream which harkens back to a color found in many oldtime baseball jerseys. A number of notable players have suited up for Bristol over the years, including Hall of Famer Alan Trammell and many other former MLB stars, among them Bobby Thomson, Lance Parrish, Lou Whitaker, Carlos Lee, Gio Gonzalez and Chris Young who is currently the general manager of the Texas Rangers. Most recently an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates organization since 2014, Bristol also served as a farm team for the Detroit Tigers and Chicago White Sox over the years. It has won seven Appalachian League championships with its last coming in 2002. Leading the State Liners into the latest incarnation of the Appalachian League will be Dave Tremblay who 20 2 1 A P PA L AC H I A N L E AG U E M E D I A G U I D E
