CATERING TO YOUR SATISFACTION Warrior’s Club Professionals Have You Covered

By Larissa Krenzer

The success of any gathering, from holiday parties to baby showers, depends on attention to detail, be it deciding on the type and amount of food to be served, entertainment requirements or decorations. Nobody in Area l does it better than the Warrior’s Club Catering Program under the direction of Avelina Richardson, Warrior’s Club Business Manager. Their professional catering team can put it all together, offering a wide variety of menus carefully designed to fit the needs of Soldiers and Families in Area l. Buffet-style menus, main dish selections and special requests can be easily accommodated, no matter how large, or small, the occasion. “Anything a customer wants we can do,” says Richardson with confidence. "We have several menus customers can choose from, but if they have something special in mind we do our best to make it happen,” she says. Such was the case for 2 Lt Casey Clarke of B Co 302d BSB, who was the primary coordinator for two recent

Formal events are not the only social gatherings the Warrior’s Club catering program specializes in. “We accommodate birthday parties, hail and farewells, baby showers, mixers, any kind of reunion or party we can do,” affirms Richardson. The catering staff is always at the ready to fulfill customer needs, no matter how big or small the event. Richardson says she just needs to know what each customer wants and her professional catering team will take care of all the details. It’s that easy. “Once I get started I make it a point to stay as engaged in the process as I can. I like knowing that our customers are happy with the results,” she adds with a big smile. Anyone interested in catering assistance for their next event should contact Richardson at the Warriors Club at 730-1204 for more information. The Warriors’ Club is located at Camp Casey directly across the street from the Carey Fitness Center.

Unit events. “I had a menu request for a vegan plate for a special event I planned and the chef at the Warrior’s Club, along with support from the rest of the club staff, were very accommodating and understanding, allowing us to go back in the kitchen prior to the event to make sure the ingredients fit our specific needs,” he says. Although it was Lt Clarke’s first time planning and coordinating a formal military event, the catering team knew exactly what to do. They provided professional assistance with decorations and set just the right atmosphere for a great event. “I explained the color scheme and the overall theme we were looking for and they ran with it, not just with table placement and settings, but also with the overall room decorations. It turned out really nice,” he says.

Avelina Richardson

Lt Casey Clarke

“Not only that, but the catering team allowed us to bring in other necessary items that were specific to the event, such as cake and other embellishments,” he says.

The re-opening of the Camp Casey Bowling Center last August, appropriately re-named the ‘Buccaneer Bowl,’ was only the beginning. Plans have been in the works for months to develop special hamburger meal packages like none other for adults and children to compliment the first-class bowling facility. Buccaneer Bowl manager Gerald ‘Fish’ Keener proudly announced the special hamburger meals will go on sale next month. The “Captain Jack Burger Combo Meal,” on sale now for $8.75 for adults and $7.75 for children 12 and under, features world famous Black Angus beef, highly prized for quality texture and taste. The meal combos come with all the toppings, fountain drink and your choice of French fries or onion rings. “When we opened the renovated first-class bowling center last year we decided that our customers deserved something truly special on our Pirates Grotto Menu as well,” says Keener. “So our team got together and recommended we offer a better burger than you usually see at other dining facilities on base. “I don’t mean to criticize other restaurants or snack bars, but in most cases the quality of the beef they use and the way they prepare their burgers leaves a lot to be desired,” Keener continues. “We decided to raise the bar a notch or two with a really good hamburger that customers will really enjoy. Yes, the price may be a bit higher than your average combo burger meal, but then again you’re truly getting a product that is much higher in quality. I know customers will be more than willing to pay a little more to get a much better burger,” he says.

For a limited time only, customers who purchase either an adult ($8.75) or children size ($7.75) Captain Jack Black Angus combo meal will receive a free pirate figurine while supplies last. There are four different five-inch tall clay figurines to choose from, including Captain Yarfish, Buck Bushwhacker, Pipe-Smokin’ Pete and Treasure Booty Bob. snack bars. I’ve been in the food and beverage industry for many years and know from experience that if you offer a truly quality product at a reasonable price people will buy it, especially when it comes to the food you eat. The new Captain Jack Burger is a great alternative and fills a niche in this market. Customers will see the difference immediately,” she says with confidence. The Camp Casey ‘Buccaneer Bowl’ Pirates Grotto is open Sunday – Thursday from 11 a.m. until 10:45 p.m. and Fridays, Saturdays and holidays from 11 a.m. to 11:45 p.m.

Keener noted that depending on customer demand, the program may extend beyond the planned schedule. “It will depend on how quickly our inventory lasts,” Keener says. “If they move as quickly as I think they will, then we’ll probably extend the program for another month or two. We’ll wait and see how it goes.” No matter what, customers are encouraged to get their free pirate figurine now at the Buccaneer Bowl Pirates Grotto while supplies last. IN THE ZONE

Manage Stress to Your Advantage

Usag Red Cloud, Casey and Area I

Volunteer of the Month

By Mark Hagelin Information & Referral Program Manager Army Community Service

Thank you

Oh, to be a child again! No worries, no responsibility, no stress (a common misconception). As we mature, our situation changes and we become bombarded with the responsibility of adulthood. Is stress bad? By itself, stress is not “bad.” Stress is a response to events in our lives. It can be managed and used to improve our lives. Stress can be seen as a motivator –a change agent to both reduce the occurrence of unpleasant events and become a learned behavioral tool to help maintain our lives on an even keel. Working and living in an overseas area exposes us to unexpected experiences… immersion in a foreign culture, an apparent loss of our “normal” routine, and added duty responsibilities may catch us unprepared

Melissa Jacobs

and lead to added stress. What can we do? Are there specific indicators of stress to be aware of before it becomes a problem? Is there a certain time of year where stress is most common? The Fall and Winter Holiday season has been shown to be a stressful time for many people. The following are a few items that may cause concern over the holiday season. Most of us budget our finances to provide for a comfortable lifestyle and the ability to set aside savings for unforeseen circumstances. During the holiday season, additional expenses mount for holiday gettogethers and gift-giving. Additionally, while overseas, geographic separation from close family members adds to anxiety especially during the holidays. Military families become used to changes in work schedules but, this can also cause an increase of stress.

Melissa Jacobs, voted 2013 Volunteer of the Year, has been a volunteer within the USAG Red Cloud and Area I Community for the past three years, accumulating 923 hours of dedicated service. Since she began volunteering, she has become an integral part of the Area 1 community. She has been the cornerstone for the implementation of many family programs and ACS classes over the years. Ms Jacobs continues to have a positive impact on Family programs within Area I, providing support for 1/15 FA FRG, AFTB, CLSS, MRT, AFAP and others. She has touched the lives of many junior enlisted and officer spouses by getting them involved with community services, which in turn generates increased

Indicators of stress may include headaches, muscle tension, fatigue, upset stomach, poor concentration, confusion, anxiety, sadness, anger, thoughts of hurting self or others, excessive use of alcohol or drugs, and difficulty starting or finishing projects. During the holiday season, the additional pressure and expectations can lead to experiencing higher levels of stress. Key to ensuring a healthy and happy holiday season is knowledge of resources to reduce the additional stress… before it becomes problematic. The following AREA I resource tools and services will ensure you and your family have a memorable holiday season: - Financial Readiness Program (ACS)

- Chaplains

- Family Advocacy Program (ACS)

- Military Family Life Counselors (MFLC)

- Spouses’ Master Resiliency Training (ACS)

- Behavioral Health

participation in AFTB, AFAP, FRG, and MRT training programs for spouses. Ms Jacobs says she volunteers for several reasons, but mainly to give back to the community and to help others adjust to the Army way of life, understanding that the Army is a team, just as a spouse is a team with their Soldier. In order for teams to function well they must have appropriate knowledge and tools to be successful. Congraturations to Melissa Jacobs for being selected "Volunteer of the Month" for January 2014.

Your local AREA I ACS would like to wish you a happy and stress free holiday season.
