Trip to Incheon
Wolmido Cruise Camp Casey Community Activity Center
Saturday, June 15
Wolmido Island, approximately 1 km from the Korean coast, used to be accessed only by boat. Years ago a new highway was constructed, connecting the island with the mainland. The name Wolmido is derived from the shape of the island which resembles the tail end of a half moon. Because it is located close to Seoul, many people visit Wolmido on weekends and holidays to enjoy the many cafes, seafood restaurants and scenic ocean views. Visitors are often treated to spontaneous performances by street artists along what is known as ‘Culture Street.’ From there, visitors can easily walk over to the Meeting Square, Arts Square, Performance Square, Good Harvest Square and other interesting places in this unique Korean environment. One particularly popular attraction at Wolmido Island is ‘Play Hill,’ a quaint little amusement park not as large as some other theme parks in Korea, but nonetheless packed with some very fun and thrilling rides, such as the famous Apollo Disco and Viking rides. Visitors can also participate in one or more of the many water cruise boat tours offered there. Tour boats leave every hour for a brief trip around the island. Although young children are welcome aboard Wolmido Island tour boats, parents are advised that youngsters in strollers may have a difficult time navigating their way aboard and around the tour boats.
