Spring Safety Reminder HONORABLE As spring weather approaches, MENTION Area I authorities are reminding the Warrior Country community of the need to be safety-minded and avoid accidents and other hazards associated with the season. Some of these hazards arise during outdoor recreational activities, including jogging, skateboarding, and bicycling. Other hazards can be posed by spring cleaning, an activity that sometimes entails falls, cuts, chemical burns and electrical shock, among other dangers. Spring is also a time that yellow sand, blowing in from China, brings respiratory and other problems. These seasonal dust storms may cause pinkeye, rhinitis, dry skin and respiratory ailments. Wearing a dust mask outdoors during yellow sand conditions is advisable. Also, contact lenses can be scratched by grains of sand, and wearing protective eyewear or glasses may be advisable. Special care should be taken with babies and children. More information on yellow sand is available online. For more information on spring safety concerns, call 732-6933. Mandatory Temperature Adjustments Col. John M. Scott, Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I has directed that ambient temperatures be adjusted in all buildings as an energy-saving measure. The required temperature setting during the heating season is 68 degrees Fahrenheit, which is roughly 20 degrees Celsius; in the non-heat season, the setting is 78F, 26C. These conservation measures will result in important energy savings within the Area I community. For more information, call 732-6940.
