THIS IS USC AIKEN The University of South Carolina Aiken was chartered in 1961 after entering into an agreement with the University of South Carolina to establish a two-year center in Aiken. The Aiken Center opened its doors in September 1961 to 139 students. Temporarily housed in Banksia, a renovated mansion in Aiken, the Center consisted of three full-time faculty members (one of whom served as Director of the Center). In 1968, the Center underwent an institutional self-study and was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as a branch of the University of South Carolina and as a junior college. The first associate degrees were awarded in June 1968. The campus of USC Aiken moved from Banksia to its present site in 1972 and physical changes began to occur rapidly. At first, the permanent campus consisted of 100 acres and one multipurpose building which housed all university operations. A library was completed in 1975, and additional land was donated that increased the campus to 144 acres. In October 1977, the Student Activities Center was opened. A classroom building was occupied in 1978, and one year later, an auxiliary services building was added. An apartment complex for students, Pacer Downs, was ready for occupancy in the fall of 1984. More construction additions to the campus included completion of the Etherredge Center, Ruth Patrick Science Education Center, the Business and Education Building, and the Alan B. Miller Nursing Building. Additional land was acquired increasing the campus to 400 acres. Academic and organizational changes also occurred rapidly. The faculty formalized its organizational structure and redefined its role in the governance of the institution in 1974-75. Also, the students reorganized their governing body and more precisely defined their role on campus; the administration and staff structures were overhauled and expanded to meet the demands of the growing academic programs.

When the full-time equivalent student enrollment reached 1,066 in the fall of 1975, the USC Aiken campus was permitted to plan for senior level courses and to create a number of baccalaureate degree programs. In that same year, USCA received approval as a four-year branch campus by the Board of Trustees of the University of South Carolina, and USCA was designated a Recognized Candidate for Senior College Accreditation. In September 1976, the Board of Trustees granted academic autonomy to the Aiken Campus. The first bachelor’s degrees were granted in May 1977, and USCA became a fully accredited senior college. Presently, the college community is comprised of more than 3,200 students, over 100 full-time faculty, approximately 110 staff members, and 28 administrators. USCA awards bachelor’s degrees in more than 20 major areas of study, master’s degrees in two areas, and offers a varied program of continuing education courses for the wider community. Today USC Aiken offers students a liberal education designed to develop an understanding of human experience which will equip them for life in a free society. To accomplish this, the University provides students with an opportunity to discover learning processes which enable them to grow personally and socially. It promotes students’ interaction within a community of active scholars and artists, and it encourages students to use the knowledge which they gain to deal with the problems of a rapidly changing world.

PEACH BELT CONFERENCE Vision Statement: The Peach Belt Conference is committed to providing through its dependent collegiate members, a forum for student participation in athletic, academic and co-curricular events under the auspices of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Division II. We will exemplify the characteristics of a premier intercollegiate conference that prides itself on the inclusion of students of all demographic groups who wish to participate in a well-rounded sports program. Our institutions, our academic goals, our athletic aspirations reflect a communality of purpose and a commitment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field. History: Entering its 23rd year of existence in 2012-13, the Peach Belt Conference has cemented its status as one of the elite Division II conferences in the nation. Since its inception in 1990-91, the Peach Belt has developed a consistent history of excellence which continues to this day with 32 national championships and 28 national finalists. Starting with only two championships in 1991, men’s and women’s basketball, the conference has expanded to 15 championship sports with the addition of men’s and women’s track and field in the spring of 2013. The conference traces its roots back to November of 1988 when 11 schools first met in Greenville, S.C. to form a Division II conference. Following a second meeting on Dec. 3, 1989, five of those 11 schools, plus two others, formed the Peach Belt and began play in fall 1990. The Peach Belt was less than a year old before capturing a national championship. The Columbus State golf team took the honor by winning the 1992 national crown, the first of three golf championships the Cougars own. One year later, the Lander men’s tennis team began their record-breaking run of eight straight national titles, the first PBC dynasty. Since then, USCA men’s golf has won three straight national titles from 2004-06.

The PBC is in the midst of another dynasty as the Armstrong men’s and women’s tennis teams captured the 31st and 32nd national championships for the conference last year. The Pirates have won four women’s and three men’s national championships since 2008. Armstrong’s achievement was the highlight to one of the most successful seasons in league history. Peach Belt teams advanced to the national championship round of competition in 10 of our 13 sports. The Armstrong women’s soccer team reached the Final Four while the Flagler volleyball team went to the Elite Eight. The Montevallo men’s basketball team played in the National Championship game while the Lander women’s team reached the Elite Eight. The Flagler softball team reached the world series while the Georgia College and USC Aiken men’s golf teams reached the final eight match play at the National Championships. In all, 59 Peach Belt teams made appearances in the NCAA postseason, including seven men’s tennis teams and six each in the sports of men’s golf and women’s tennis. The seven charter members of the conference were Armstrong Atlantic State University, Columbus State University, Francis Marion University, Georgia College & State University, Lander University, USC Aiken and USC Upstate. The name Peach Belt Athletic Conference was adopted in January of 1990 and modified to Peach Belt Conference in May of 2000. Augusta State joined the conference in 1991 and UNC Pembroke became the ninth member on July 1, 1992. They were followed by Kennesaw State University on July 1, 1994, Clayton State University on July 1, 1995 and the University of North Florida on July 1, 1997. Kennesaw State and North Florida departed for the Division I ranks in 2005, USC Upstate did the same in 2007, and the conference welcomed in North Georgia College & State University in 2005 and Georgia Southwestern State University in 2006. In 2009-10, the Peach Belt added Montevallo and Flagler. For the 2012-13 season, the league is expanding once again with the addition of Young Harris College, giving the Peach Belt 14 members for the first time in its history. David Brunk was named the second PBC commissioner in May of 2007. Brunk replaced Marvin Vanover, who was the first PBC commissioner from 1991 to 2007. Brunk is charged with continuing the strong growth of the conference as its second era begins. Dr. Fred Carter, president of Francis Marion University, begins his two-year term as president of the Peach Belt this year. The conference currently holds championships in 14 sports, six for men and eight for women. They are men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s tennis, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s golf and women’s track and field.

Dr. Sandra Jordan Chancellor Second Year Sandra J. Jordan, former provost and vice president for academic affairs at Georgia College & State University, was named chancellor of the University of South Carolina Aiken in 2012. Jordan became the fourth chancellor of USC Aiken, succeeding Thomas L. Hallman who retired after 12 years in the position. “I am tremendously honored and humbled by this opportunity to serve the campus, community and the University of South Carolina system,” Jordan said. “USC Aiken’s mission, unwavering dedication to student success and vibrant partnerships with the community, make this an exceptional and exciting position. I am thrilled to accept this invitation to join the Pacers during this pivotal time in the history of the institution and I look forward to working closely with President Pastides, the USC Aiken faculty, staff and students as well as our alumni and friends to build upon the successes that defined this university’s first 50 years.”

Jordan’s appointment marks a return to the state where her higher education career began. From 1986-1989, she was an assistant professor of art history at Lander University and director of the Monsanto Gallery of Art. Jordan earned her bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Alabama, and her doctorate in art history from the University of Georgia. She has also attended the Management Development Program at Harvard University’s Institute for Higher Education, the 21st Century Leadership Institute and was a summer fellow at Vanderbilt University’s Institute for Higher Education Management. A student of leadership, she is often asked to mentor new leaders at the state and national level. Jordan has been married for 30 years to Michael Jordan, an architect and graduate of Clemson University. They have a son, Matthew, who is a graduate student at the University of Alabama.

Randy Warrick Director of Athletics 27th Year Randy Warrick is in his 27th year as Director of Athletics at the University of South Carolina Aiken. He was hired at USCA in 1978 as head baseball coach and intramural director and has served many different duties during his tenure. While coaching baseball for 11 years, Warrick also served as an assistant basketball coach during the 1978-79 season and acting golf coach in 1989-90. As baseball coach, Warrick compiled a 392-146 record, while earning various coaching awards. In 1986 his team advanced to the College World Series, the highlight of his coaching career. Warrick was born in Rocky Mount, N.C. and attended Rocky Mount High School. He was an All-Conference player in football, basketball and baseball. Upon graduation from high school, Warrick went to Louisburg Junior College where he played baseball for two years.

In 1975, Warrick earned his Associate of Arts degree from Louisburg and was drafted by the Kansas City Royals, but decided to stay in school. Warrick then moved on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a two-year baseball scholarship. While at North Carolina he earned Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic honors two straight years. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education in 1977 and then his Master of Arts in Teaching in 1978. While earning his master’s degree, he served as a graduate assistant baseball coach. In the same season, the team advanced to the College World Series. Warrick is a member of the College Athletic Management’s Editorial Board, PBC Awards Committee, NCAA Division II AD’s Association Board of Directors, Greater Augusta Sports Council Board, and is the most recent past chairman of the NCAA Division II National Golf Committee. Warrick is married to Martha Blankenship Warrick of Augusta, Ga. They have one son, Tripp, who recently graduated from USC Aiken. The Warrick family resides in North Augusta, S.C.

USC AIKEN ADMINISTRATION Tim Hall Associate Athletic Director 23rd Year Tim Hall is in his 23rd year as a member of the USC Aiken athletic department. Hall first joined the program in 1990 as a graduate assistant. In 1993 he was hired on as the university’s full-time NCAA Compliance Coordinator. In August 1997, the Batesburg-Leesville native was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director. In September 2003, Hall was promoted again, this time to the position of Associate Athletic Director for Administration and External Services. In this role, Hall oversees NCAA compliance and academic support. In addition, he assists with home game administration and fundraising. A 1990 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Hall received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Administration. In 1992, he earned a Master’s in Student Personnel Services from USC as well. In his time at USC Aiken, Hall has been on a number of campus committees including the first year academic advisor program and the enrollment management action team in the strategic planning process. Hall is married to the former Jenny Fulmer and they have three sons, Jordan, Ethan and Wyatt.

Assistant Athletic Director/SWA 14th Year Angie Osbon is in her 14th year as a member of the USC Aiken athletic department. Osbon became the department’s business manager in 1999. Through the years she has earned a number of other titles, including Senior Woman Administrator, Student Athlete Advisory Committee Advisor and Cheerleading, Mascot and Dance Team Director. In 2007, Osbon received the Outstanding Committment to Student Development Award from the Office of Student Life. In September 2003, the Aiken, S.C., native was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director for Business and Student Services. Osbon earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from USC Aiken in 1992. In 1996, Osbon received her Master’s in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina. In 2002, Osbon was named student organization advisor of the year and was selected to the Who’s Who Among Cheerleading Coaches. In addition, she has been a member of the first year academic advisor program and a staff facilitator for orientation. The former Angie Mathis is married to Rick Osbon and they have three children, Reagan, Gemma and Sterling.

Brent C. Hager is in his first year as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications/Sports Information Director at USC Aiken. Hager comes to USC Aiken after serving as the Associate Commissioner for External Affairs at the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference where he handled the promotion of all 16 sports. During his time at the WVIAC Hager featured the league’s only two Division II National Champions and a National Player of the Year. In addition, he ran multiple championships and redesigned the WVIAC web site. Prior to the WVIAC, Hager spent two years as the Director of Sports Information and Game Operations at Presbyterian College. He was the primary contact for football, volleyball, men’s basketball, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s and women’s tennis. Hager spent two and a half years at Gardner-Webb as the Assistant Sports Information Director. He handled 13 sports throughout his time with the Bulldogs. He also spent two years at Virginia Tech as an intern in the sports information office. Hager got his start at UNC-Pembroke in 2002. After being hired as the Assistant Sports Information Director, he was promoted to the Interim Sports Information Director Position five months later. The Tallahassee, Fla., native attended Wingate University where he received a bachelors of science degree in business administration and sport management. He earned an MBA at UNC-Pembroke in 2004.

Brandon Aiken is in his 14th year as head athletic trainer and 16th overall at USC Aiken. Aiken, a native of Sturgeon Bay, Wis., joined the USC Aiken training staff in 1997 as a graduate assistant. He served in that capacity for three years until stepping into the head position in 2000. He was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Medicine prior to the 2009-10 athletic year. A 1997 graduate of Saint Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C., Aiken received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine. Aiken is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Aiken also served as assistant and head athletic trainer at Hitchcock Rehabilitation Center in Aiken, S.C., for more than three years. At Hitchcock, he worked with high school, college, and professional athletes as well as general outpatient rehabilitation. Aiken guided the USC Aiken athletic training staff to back-to-back (2007-08 and 2008-09) Peach Belt Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year awards. Aiken, who resides in Graniteville, is married to Malinda and the couple has a son, Liam.

THE USC AIKEN CONVOCATION CENTER

As USC Aiken Athletics has grown, its place in context of the University as a whole has evolved. With heightened importance comes the need for new tools for success. The Convocation Center, opened in April 2007, is the grandest tool yet that will equip the Pacer programs with opportunities to succeed. A vision some 15 years in the making, the construction of the facility came to fruition only because of the dedication and hard work of campus and community leaders. Funding for the $17 million, 100,000 square foot facility came from both public and private sources. With a groundbreaking ceremony on December 9, 2005, construction in earnest began with a 14-month time table laid out for the project’s completion. With China Construction as the builders of the project, Chinese National Television was on hand for the historic groundbreaking. In addition to giving the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs a state-of-the-art facility in which to practice and play, the athletic department as a whole has expanded space and modern offices in which to operate. Visitors to the building are greeted initially by the beautiful John C. Troutman Family Lobby, highlighted by the Lew Perkins Wall of Champions. The lobby works as a museum of Pacer greatness, both past and present. The Wall of Champions is a dedication to Lew Perkins, the former USC Aiken basketball coach and athletic director and former Director of Athletics at the University of Kansas. The Wall of Champions is a timeline of USC Aiken athletics.

The lobby also includes trophy cases dedicated to each sport, and a hanging banner featuring a prominent student-athlete from each sport’s past. The main arena has a seating capacity of 3,600 for athletic events. The men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams all practice and hold home events in the arena, which has stateof-the-art sound and scoreboard systems. One practice floor is located on each side of the arena above the main competition floor, allowing the possibility for up to three teams to practice simultaneously. Overlooking the main competition floor is the VIP room, which gives the department a facility with a beautiful backdrop to host meetings, conferences or banquets. In addition, the building consists of eight spacious locker rooms, including ones dedicated for the men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and volleyball teams. The first weight training facility exclusively for the studentathlete is also housed next to the athletic training room.

SEASON OUTLOOK

After earning the school’s first-ever Elite Eight berth last season, head coach Vince Alexander’s team returns 10 letterwinners and is primed and ready to vie for the program’s first National Championship this season. The team lost All-American Re’mon Nelson to graduation, but managed to add the former Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year in Alvin Brown, who missed the last two seasons. The squad has a daunting schedule, beginning with two exhibition contests against Division I programs. However, the team will be battle tested before entering conference play. The squad, which does not have a true freshman on the team, has an abundance of experience. The Pacers, collectively, have won many games during their collegiate careers and will try to once again host the regional tournament en route to another Elite Eight appearance. “It’s easy to say that our goals are to come back and win the Peach Belt regular season and tournament championship,” Alexander said. “However, teams around us have gotten better in the off-season. We need to elevate our level of play to accomplish the goals that we set, but we like to not only reach those goals, but exceed what we’ve done in the past.” GUARDS

With the graduation of point guard Nelson, the Pacers have to replace the former All-American. However, Alexander has three capable student-athletes, including two that return from a season ago. USC Aiken returns DeVontae Wright, who played in 25 games as a junior and poured in 8.2 points per contest. With the ball, he distributed 86 assists and committed just 39 turnovers. “DeVontae is a tremendous leader,” Alexander said. “He makes very good decisions with the ball and understands our system very well. He backed up Re’mon Nelson last year partly due to a preseason surgery. This year, he is healthy and is shooting well.” The Pacers also boast sophomore Grant Harris, who played valuable minutes as a rookie last year. Harris played in just 16 contests, but made each one count, totaling a three-to-one assist to turnover ratio. “Grant doesn’t turn the ball over very much,” Alexander said. “He is very solid defensively and continues to improve his shooting.” USC Aiken also welcomes Division I transfer Gavin Stephenson. “Gavin is a big guard,” Alexander stated. “He makes good decisions with the ball and his shooting is improving every day. Once he learns how we play defensively, Gavin will be a solid player for us and could play the point or shooting guard positions.” Several players will vie for quality playing time at the shooting guard and small forward positions. Returning to the squad is leading scorer Ronald Zimmerman, along with Jesse Seilern, Kinley Branch and Shane Porchea. The team has also added standout Hendrix Emu to the roster. Zimmerman leads the way as the shooting guard. A year ago, he netted 15.3 points per game (504) and was second on the team in steals (41). Zimmerman connected on 134 three-point field goals while draining 45.4 percent of his attempts. “Ronald is one of the best shooters we’ve ever had – and one of the best I’ve ever coached,” Alexander said. “He has the ability to hit big shots and isn’t afraid to take them. out 83 assists on the season while accounting for 9.7 points per game. “When people talk about Jesse, the first word that comes to mind is defense,” Alexander stated. “He is the most tenacious defensive player I’ve ever coached. He is strong, athletic and can dominate a game defensively. This will be a breakout year for him as his role has to expand from a role player to one that can give us even more scoring.” Branch, a senior, played in all 33 contests a year ago and started one. He averaged 7.4 points and 3.6 rebounds a game. He was also second on the team in blocks. “Kinley is a strong guard who improved tremendously over the summer,” Alexander commented. “He added the ability to get to the rim. Kinley is a very good shooter and is a good rebounding guard.” Porchea, a senior, played in 31 games last season, nearly averaging 10 minutes a contest. He drained 42.4 percent of his shots from the floor. “During the preseason, Shane is the most improved player in our program,” Alexander said. “He’s athletic, strong and handles the ball well. He is a big guard that can shoot really well from 15feet in and can attack the basket.” Emu, a newcomer, played last season at Seward County C.C. “Hendrix is a 6-5, extremely athletic student-athlete that can play multiple positions,” Alexander stated. “He is a high-energy guy and is an outstanding rebounder and defender. Hendrix has a nice jump shot and is a great addition for us. He doesn’t back down from a challenge and he will bring the toughness we need every night.” FORWARDS Returning to the familiar position is preseason All-American Paul Larsen. Additionally, Santoine Butler, Derrick Scott and Rick Alderman return. The Pacers also get back former PBC Defensive Player of the Year Alvin Brown. While starting all 33 games a season ago, Larsen totaled 12.9 points and a team-high nine rebounds a contest. The senior was also third on the team in blocks (19). “Paul is an incredible basketball player,” Alexander said. “He is someone that could be the National Player of the Year candidate. Paul is an amazing rebounder that can score anywhere around the basket. He could go down as one of the best players in the history of USC Aiken.” Butler, a senior, started 33 games a year ago, averaging nearly 28 minutes a night. He totaled 12.1 points a game and 6.6 rebounds a contest. Butler also blocked a team-high 74 shots. “Santoine is a very solid player for us,” Alexander commented. “He is a good shot blocker and rebounds the ball well. Santoine can step out and shoot the three and can score around the basket. He has the ability to be an all-conference performer.” Scott saw playing time in 29 games last season for the Pacers. The senior averaged eight minutes a game and hit over 41 percent of his shots from the floor, including 35.9 percent from downtown. “Derrick has gotten stronger,” Alexander stated. “He can stretch the defense and rebounds the ball very well. He is really crafty and keeps the play alive for us. Derrick will be a big help for us this year.” Alderman, a redshirt-senior, sat out a season ago, but played in all 29 games during the 2011-12 campaign. That season, he averaged 17.3 minutes a game and drained 55.9 percent of his shots from the field.

“Rick is a blue-collar guy,” Alexander said. “He is a hard worker, takes charges and can score around the basket. Rick can also put it on the floor and attack the basket. He will push for a starting position.” Brown returns to the team after spending two years away. During the 2010-11 season, he averaged 24.7 minutes a night. In that time, he connected on 61.8 percent of his shots from the floor (89-144). Brown totaled 8.9 points per game and swatted 90 shots while also accounting for 5.9 rebounds a game. “Alvin is a pure shot blocker,” Alexander commented. “He alters a lot of shots and is a very athletic 6-10 student-athlete. Everything around the basket for him offensively is a catch and dunk. Defensively, he’s tremendous and keeps things out of the paint. Alvin allows us to pressure and take chances we wouldn’t take before.”

SCHEDULE

Alexander has always insisted the Pacers will take on any team in any location – and the schedule this season clearly follows that to a tee. USC Aiken has exhibition contests at Mississippi and South Carolina before opening the season in Puerto Rico for three games. The Pacers’ first regular-season contest is against P.R.Rio Piedras. The squad follows it up against P.R.-Mayaguez and West Georgia the next two days. On Nov. 12, USC Aiken hosts Allen in its first of only three home games during the fall semester. The Pacers take on Tuskegee Nov. 15 before heading to Florida for two games. USC Aiken squares off against Rollins and St. Leo in St. Leo, Fla., before staying on the road to take on Tuskegee and Mount Olive the first week of December. On Dec. 14, the Pacers open conference competition at UNC Pembroke. The team then hosts Francis Marion Dec. 16. On Dec. 21, USC Aiken travels to King for its last non-conference game of the season. After breaking for the holidays, Alexander’s team hosts Columbus State Jan. 4 before going back on the road for a pair of contests. The Pacers travel to Montevallo (Jan. 11) and Clayton State (Jan. 15). The squad hosts Young Harris (Jan. 18) and North Georgia (Jan. 20) prior to a three-game stretch away from the Convocation Center to finish the month off. During the trip, the team heads to Georgia College (Jan. 22), Francis Marion (Jan. 25) and Flagler (Jan. 29). The final five weeks of the regular season benefits the Pacers in terms of travel as the team plays six home games compared to just three road contests. Between the home dates, the team travels to Lander (Feb. 15), Armstrong (Feb. 22) and GRU Augusta (Feb. 26). The squad hosts GRU Augusta (Feb. 1), Lander (Feb. 5), Armstrong (Feb. 8), Flagler (Feb. 12), Georgia Southwestern (Feb. 19) and closes out its home schedule against UNC Pembroke (March 1). The Pacers will then prepare for the conference tournament and beyond. “We play a very tough schedule,” Alexander said. “The nonconference portion is one of the toughest I’ve had since I’ve been here. The Peach Belt is a very tough conference as there’s not a night off in the league. After winnning the conference in back-toback seasons, teams will come after us and be ready to play any time we step onto the court. We have to make sure we are ready every time because we will get everyone’s best game. Our team will have to have the character, motivation and determination to meet the challenges and be ready for each and every game.” With so many players returning and experience unmatched by many others across the country, the Pacers will look to complete the journey the team started after last season’s Elite Eight.

Head Coach Ninth Season

There are teams that have a couple good seasons and then drop off, and then there are teams that keep building and become true programs. USC Aiken has turned into one of the latter. Under the guidance of head coach Vince Alexander the University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball program has become a national force over the past few seasons. The 2012-13 USC Aiken men’s basketball season was the best in program history. The back-to-back Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year, Alexander was tabbed as the Southeast District Coach of the Year in the 2012-13 season. He was named a finalist for the Clarence “Big House” Gaines National Coach of the Year award. Alexander has turned the Pacer men’s basketball program into a national power over the course of the last six seasons. Alexander became the all-time wins leader for the USC Aiken men’s basketball program in the Pacers’ 108-79 road win over Francis Marion on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012. Alexander is now 239-167 all-time in 14 seasons as a head coach. In eight years as head coach of the Pacers, Alexander is 150-93. Alexander has guided USC Aiken to historic heights during his time in charge. In 2007-08, USC Aiken reached the national rankings for the first time ever before ending the year by winning the Peach Belt Conference regular-season crown. The Pacers, who won a school-record 27 games in the 2007-08 season, were the top seed in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional during the 2007-08 campaign. Alexander was chosen as the 2007-08 South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year in addition to claiming conference Coach of the Year honors. Alexander guided the 2008-09 Peach Belt Conference men’s basketball team to its first-ever “Sweet Sixteen.” One year later in the 2009-10 season, USC Aiken claimed the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship. USC Aiken has claimed back-to-back Peach Belt Conference regular-season championships (2011-12 and 2012-13) for the first time in program history. The 2012-13 season under the guidance of Alexander saw the Pacers win the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title, the Peach Belt Conference Tournament title and the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional crown. In addition to Alexander’s accolades in the 2012-13 season, USC Aiken’s Re’mon Nelson was tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player and the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Southeast Regional Most Outstanding Player. Ronald Zimmerman was named to the All-Conference team and to the All-Regional team. Zimmerman finished the year first nationally in 3-pointers made per game. Paul Larsen was named First-Team All-District and All-Conference. The home court advantage at the Convocation Center continued in the 2012-13 season as the Pacers went 13-1 at home. The Pacers are 71-12 inside the friendly confines of the Convocation Center during the regular-season over the past six seasons. The 2011-2012 season included many strong performances as the Pacers had another good year, going 21-8.

Alexander was picked as Peach Belt Conference Coach of the year as two of his players, Nelson and four-year player Sterling Council, earned PBC All-Conference selections. Council was also selected to the NABC Southeast Region All-District First Team. The Pacers were chosen as the second seed in the Southeast Region before dropping a heartbreaker to Wingate, 73-70, in the quarterfinals of the Southeast Regional. USC Aiken was ranked as high as fourth nationally in the 201011 season. The Pacers finished the year with a 17-10 record and a second place finish in the extremely tough PBC East Division. Two Pacers earned all-league plaudits with Byron Faison named to the PBC All-Conference Second-Team. Alvin Brown was selected as the PBC Defensive Player of the Year. As a team in the 2010-11 season, USC Aiken finished first nationally in blocked shots with 6.1 swats per outing. Brown guided the Pacer “block party” with 3.3 blocks per game. Alexander and the Pacers participated in the NCAA Division II Tournament in the 2009-10 season. In 2008-09 the Pacers advanced to their first ever “Sweet Sixteen.” The 2009-10 Pacers’ campaign ended with USC Aiken falling to Montevallo, 88-71, in the NCAA Southeast Regional semifinal for a trip to what would have been back-to-back “Sweet Sixteen” appearances. The Pacers nevertheless reached the Round of 32 in back-to-back seasons for the first time in school history. The Pacers reached the Peach Belt Tournament Championship game for the third straight year and claimed their first PBC Tournament Championship since 1993 with a 65-60 victory over Montevallo. USC Aiken’s Faison was named the 2010 PBC Tournament Most Valuable Player en route to the Pacers’ tournament title. Sophomore forward Kevin Willis was also named to the All-Tournament Team. Faison also garnered a PBC All-Conference selection at the conclusion of the regular season as a second-team member.

USC Aiken concluded the 2009-10 season with a 20-11 record, including three wins over top-20 nationally-ranked opponents. In the 2008-09 season, USC Aiken opened the year ranked as the No. 1 team in all of NCAA Division II by The Sporting News. The Pacers were ranked as high as second nationally during the regular-season before ending the year with a 25-8 record overall. The Pacers advanced to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game and the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second straight year in the 2008-09 season. Alexander led the Pacers to a banner season in 2007-08, his third season as head coach of the USC Aiken men’s basketball program. Alexander engineered a remarkable turnaround as the Pacers finished the season with a 27-4 overall record, including a 19-1 conference record to claim the program’s second Peach Belt Conference regular season title. USC Aiken broke numerous school records in 2007-08, including most wins (27), conference wins (19), consecutive wins (14), home wins (15), consecutive home wins (15) and most wins to start a season (nine). The 2007-08 PBC Coach of the Year and South Atlantic District Coach of the Year, Alexander guided USC Aiken to a final ranking of sixth. The Pacers advanced to the championship game of the PBC Tourney and earned the top seed in the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional before falling to Clayton State 60-58. Alexander guided the Pacers to a combined 15 wins in his first two years with the program. The Pacers were 15-44 in his first two years overall. Since then, Alexander has turned the Pacers into a Division II powerhouse. While Alexander and his team went through a tough season in 2006-07 marred by injuries and roster shakeups, the coach did reach a milestone when the Pacers beat Allen 92-60 on Dec. 2, 2006, for his 100th career victory. Alexander joined the USC Aiken community in June of 2005 after serving as head coach for the previous six seasons at Mansfield University, a NCAA Division II institution in Mansfield, Pa. He became the school’s seventh person to sit at the helm and third since moving to the NCAA Division II ranks in 1990-91. Alexander was hired after standing out in the hiring process to the USC Aiken administration. “We interviewed an exceptional pool of candidates for this position; however, Vince stood out from the group as a stellar coach,” said then USC Aiken Chancellor Dr. Tom Hallman at a reception to welcome Alexander to campus. “I spoke to several people, including [Mansfield’s] president, who had nothing but respect for Vince personally and professionally.” In his time at Mansfield, Alexander led the Mountaineers to an 89-74 record, the 2005 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Championship, and four appearances in the PSAC Tournament. Over his last three seasons, Mansfield was 57-29. The PSAC does not crown a regular-season champion, but Alexander’s 2004-05 squad finished with the best conference record in the 14-team league. The Mountaineers went 10-2 on their way to the Eastern Division Championship. The team finished the season with an overall record of 18-11. All those accomplishments are even more impressive considering Mansfield was picked to finish fourth in the Eastern Division. Alexander took over the reins of the Mansfield program in 1999 after serving two seasons as an assistant coach at the university. His first team finished 13-13 and his second squad (2000-01) appeared in the PSAC Tournament for the first time since 1997. Only eight of the 14 PSAC teams, four from each division, advance to the tournament. After posting a 9-16 mark in 2001-02, the Mountaineers rolled off a pair of 18-win campaigns and a 20-win season. In 2002-03, Mansfield went 18-11 and returned to the PSAC Tournament, making the first of three consecutive trips to the

league championship tourney. Alexander led the Mountaineers to a 21-7 record in 2003-04 and a second place finish in the PSAC Eastern Division. The team was ranked nationally during the season and with a final NCAA East Region ranking of number six, just missed earning a spot in the NCAA Division II Tournament. The 2004-05 season saw a second 18-win campaign and for the third time in Alexander’s six seasons as head coach, Mansfield led the PSAC in scoring. The Mountaineers average of 84.7 points per game also ranked 12th in Division II. At Mansfield, Alexander produced 10 All-Conference players, six First-Team selections and four Second-Team choices, and the 2003 PSAC Eastern Rookie of the Year. Before arriving at Mansfield as an assistant, Alexander was the head basketball coach at William Penn High School in York, Pa., as well as Dean of Students for the York City School District. During his two-year tenure as head basketball coach, he guided William Penn to an overall record of 40-15, including a 25-5 mark during the 1996-97 season. His 1995-96 team was the YAIAA co-champion and the York County runner-up. The 1996-97 squad won both the YAIAA and York County titles, and Alexander earned York County Coach of the Year honors. Prior to his stint at William Penn, Alexander was a physical education instructor and head basketball coach at U.S. Grant High School in Oklahoma City, Okla., from 1992-94 where his teams posted a 29-10 mark. Alexander’s 1994-95 team advanced to the Oklahoma Regional Finals, and he was selected the 1993 Coach of the Year in the Oklahoma City League. Alexander earned his Associate of Arts Degree in physical education from Blinn College (Texas) in 1987. At Blinn, he was All-Conference and an All-Region selection. He then attended Oklahoma Baptist University where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education and Recreation in 1989. He served as the team captain for two seasons. Alexander and his wife, Anita, have one son, Benjamin, and one daughter, Samantha Denae`.

Carlos Collazo

Assistant Coach Sixth Season

Carlos Collazo starts his sixth season as an assistant coach under the direction of head coach Vince Alexander. His first year working under Coach Alexander was during the 2006-07 season. Collazo rejoined the Pacer program prior to the 2009-10 season after spending two years playing basketball professionally in Puerto Rico and Mexico. His duties include assisting with recruiting, scouting and oncourt instruction. Collazo will also work with USC Aiken post players. Collazo is a 2006 graduate of Mansfield University in Mansfield, Pa., where he received a Bachelorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s of Arts degree in Spanish. He was a member of the basketball team at Mansfield from 2004-2006. He played for Alexander in 2004-05, his first season with the Mountaineers. An All-Conference player while at Mansfield, Collazo averaged 12.1 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game as a junior under Alexander. Collazo averaged 12.0 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a senior. Prior to going to Mansfield, Collazo spent three years at Missouri Southern State University from 2001-04. Collazo, a native of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, resides in Aiken, S.C.

Michael Prandy Michael Prandy begins his third season as an assistant men’s basketball coach under the direction of head coach Vince Alexander. Prandy joined the USC Aiken Men’s Basketball coaching staff with over 18 years of teaching and coaching experience. Prandy moved to Aiken from Norman, Okla. where he was the Girls Basketball Head Coach at Noble High School. Prior to serving as the Head Girls Coach at Noble, Prandy spent five years as the Assistant Boys Basketball Coach at Mustang High School. Prandy has spent most of his career at John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, Okla. From 1994-98 he was the Assistant Boys Coach with the program going 99-10 during his time there. The 1996 John Marshall Boys Basketball team finished as state champions with a perfect 28-0 record. They concluded the year ranked 13th nationally. He was the Head Girls Basketball Coach at John Marshall from 2002-05. Prandy graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1993 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Education. He is married to his wife of 22 years, Stephanie, who is a Seventh Grade teacher at Kennedy Middle School. The couple has three children; Mallorie (14), Chancellor (15) and Brittany (22).

Assistant Coach Third Season

Ryan Schroeder enters his third season as an assistant coach on Vince Alexander’s staff. Schroeder was a member of the USC Aiken Men’s Basketball program under Alexander during the 2006-07 season. He played in eight games for the Pacers during the season, averaging 6.1 points. Prior to joining the USC Aiken Men’s Basketball program in 2006, Schroeder played at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, Ohio from 2004-06. Schroeder left the Pacer program to finish his degree in his home state of Ohio at The Ohio State University at Lima. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Health Management with a Business minor in 2010. Schroeder has spent the last few years as an Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for Fort Jennings High School in Fort Jennings, Ohio. An alum of Fort Jennings High School, Schroeder served as the Junior Varsity Boys Head Coach and Freshman Head Coach during the 2010-11 season. Schroeder currently resides in Aiken.

2012-13 REVIEW The University of South Carolina Aiken men’s basketball team under the direction of eighth-year head coach Vince Alexander put together the finest season in program history. USC Aiken (25-8, 15-4 PBC) claimed the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title, the Peach Belt Conference Tournament crown and the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Southeast Regional championship en route to their first-ever Elite Eight appearance. The Pacers were ranked 20th in the final national poll of the 2012-13 regular-season. USC Aiken’s 25 wins in the 2012-13 season leave them having claimed 20 or more wins in five of the last six seasons. USC Aiken opened its 2012-13 season with a record of 6-3 entering the month of January. The Pacers would claim victory in seven of their nine games in the first month of the new year to sit atop the Peach Belt Conference East Division standings with a record of 9-2 in league play. USC Aiken was 13-5 overall entering February.

2013-14 USC Aiken Men’s Basketball

USC Aiken would solidify its second straight Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship by going 6-1 in the month of February. USC Aiken bested rival Augusta State, 56-50, at the Convocation Center on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 to obtain the championship outright and acquire the first back-to-back regular-season titles in program history. USC Aiken would close the 2012-13 regular-season with a 15-4 mark in the Peach Belt Conference and a 19-7 record overall. The regular-season champion Pacers would go on to rattle off three straight wins in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament at the Lumpkin Center in Columbus, Ga. to obtain their second league tournament title in the last four years. USC Aiken downed Montevallo, 65-60, in the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game on Sunday, March 10, 2013. The regular-season and tournament league crowns would lead to USC Aiken earning the right to host the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Southeast Regional for the first time in program history. The Pacers would take advantage of their opportunity with three wins in the regional to advance to their first-ever Elite Eight. The top-seeded Pacers bested third-seeded Barton, 82-75, in the regional championship game on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. USC Aiken’s magical season would end in the national quarterfinals with the Pacers falling 84-75 to Drury at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Ky. on Thursday, March 28, 2013. A plethora of individual awards were bestowed upon the Pacers over the course of the 2012-13 season with senior guard Re’mon Nelson (Columbus, Ohio/Canal Winchester HS) leading the way. Nelson was chosen as the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year, the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player and the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Southeast Regional Most Outstanding Player. The First-Team All-Peach Belt Conference and All-District selection was also chosen as an AllAmerican. Joining Nelson on the Peach Belt Conference All-Conference Team were junior forward Paul Larsen (Mooresville, N.C./Mercer) and junior guard Ronald Zimmerman (Columbia, S.C./Spring Valley HS). Larsen was also an All-District and Honorable Mention All-American selection. Zimmerman, who ended the 2012-13 season as the national leader in 3-pointers made per game, joined Nelson on the Peach Belt Conference All-Tournament and All-Regional Teams. USC Aiken junior guard Jesse Seilern (Innsbruck, Austria/ Kapfenberg HS) was chosen to the the Capital One Academic NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball District Three First-Team and the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team. Alexander, for his efforts in guiding USC Aiken to its finest season in program history, was tabbed as the Peach Belt Conference Coach of the Year and the District Coach of the Year. He was also named a finalist for the 2013 Clarence “Big House” Gaines National Coach of the Year award.
