The Coyotes have excelled, not only at the conference level, but also on a national scale and as professionals. One of the finest competition and training facilities in the region, the DakotaDome is home to all 17 Coyote teams. The complex serves South Dakota’s 350 student-athletes on a daily basis and is one of the state’s most recognizable man-made landmarks.

Student-athletes at South Dakota are given support in all areas of their college experience. Coyote staff members trained in academic support, strength training, sports medicine and more work on a oneon-one basis with each student-athlete.

Now entering its ffourth year of its ttransition to NCAA D Division I, South Dakota ccontinues to achieve ssuccess. In the first three yyears of the transition, tthe Coyotes have won e eight conference titles, iincluding sweeping tthe 2011 Great West IIndoor Track and Field Championships (top C aand bottom). 2010-11 ssaw 88 South Dakota aathletes earn allcconference honors, with ttwo earning player of tthe year honors. This aalso included two coach of the year honors. o

Coyote Volleyball - Growing in Division I Part of the South Dakota volleyball team’s transition to Division I has included an enhanced schedule. The Coyotes have played at major conference venues such as Wisconsin (below) and Kansas State. South Dakota has also faced major conference foes Duke, Wisconsin, Providence, Georgia and Marquette over the past two seasons, along with several highly competitive matches against quality mid-major opponents.

Coyote Volleyball - Growing in Division I
South Dakota is 50-40 under Houk. The 50 wins are the most in a coach’s first three seasons in school history. South Dakota is 21-6 ( .778) at the DakotaDome over the past three seasons. The Coyotes have had five players earn all-conference honors during the last two seasons, including Kristen Kritenbrink, who was named to the All-Great West Conference first team in 2010. Kritenbrink left South Dakota second all-time in kills with 1,395 and third in kills per set at 3.24.

South Dakota has enjoyed successes during its first two years of transitioning to Division I status under Coach Matt Houk (right). South Dakota opened 2008 -- its first year of the Division I transition -- with four straight wins over Division I competition, on its way to a 23-4 mark.
