Over 80 percent of USD’s 408 faculty members have the highest degree in their field, but a 15:1 student-faculty ratio gives a great education a personal touch. But if you’re up for a road trip, you can make Sioux Falls or Sioux City in less than an hour, Omaha in about two and Minneapolis in five.

One of the finest competition and training facilities

in the region, the DakotaDome is home to all 17 Coyote teams. The complex serves USD’s 350 studentathletes on a daily basis and is one of the state’s most recognizable man-made landmarks.

Student-athletes at

South Dakota are given support in all areas of their college experience. Coyote staff members trained in academic support, strength training, sports medicine and more work on a oneon-one basis with each student-athlete.

In its third year of

transition to NCAA Division I status, South Dakota is a member of the up-and-coming Great West Conference. USD captured four team championships in the 10-member league during the 2009-10 season. The Coyotes also added 142 All-GWC honors in all sports, including four players of the year and three coaches of the year.

for all sports except football. The conference will renew South Dakota’s long standing rivalry with South Dakota State and North Dakota State. The league basketball championships have also been held in Sioux Falls in recent years and could find a permanent home there.

Chris Kassin (middle) and Eric Johnson (right) help coach Boots run all aspects of the Coyote basketball program from recruiting to travel arrangements. James and Kassin both completed their playing careers under Boots, while Johnson was an NCAA Division II student-athlete at Wayne State. With James entering his eighth coaching season and Kassin his sixth, the three combine with coach Boots to give the Coyotes more than 37 years of coaching experience.

facilities designed for them. The Coyotes have a private practice facility and hours of the weight room just to themselves. Several improvements have recently been made to the DakotaDome, including a new videoboard.

USD’s 350 student-athletes posted a collective grade-

point average of 3.16 at the conclusion of the 2009 spring semester. Of USD’s 17 NCAA sports, 14 had a team GPA greater than 3.0 at the conclusion of 200809. USD had a total of 213 Coyote athletes earn a 3.0 or above GPA, including 33 who posted a perfect 4.0 mark in the spring.
