Success for USD student-athletes is measured on the field and in the classroom. The Coyotes have excelled not only at the conference level, but also on a national scale and as professionals. One of the finest competition and training facilities in the region, the DakotaDome is home to all 17 Coyote teams. The complex serves USD’s 350 studentathletes on a daily basis and is one of the state’s most recognizable man-made landmarks.

Student-athletes at South Dakota are given support in all areas of their college experience. Coyote staff members trained in academic support, strength training, sports medicine and more work on a oneon-one basis with each student-athlete.

In its third year of ttransition to NCAA Division I status, South Dakota is a member o of the up-and-coming G Great West Conference. USD captured four team cchampionships in the 10-member league d during the 2009-10 sseason. The Coyotes aalso added 142 All-GWC honors in all sports, including four players o of the year and three ccoaches of the year.

The USD women’s basketball program strives for excellence on and off the court to help Coyote student-athletes be their best. 1. Coaching Staff: An experienced, knowledgeable coaching staff with nearly three decades of collegiate experience leads the way. 2. Strength/Conditioning/Facilities: USD has a full-time strength and conditioning coach along with weight room and practice facilities to help student-athletes reach their full potential. 3. Academics: USD provides the tools for athletes to not only prosper athletically but in the classroom as well as they prepare for their post-college future. 4. Tradition: A program with five conference titles that is closing in on the 600-win milestone continues to grow.

--His 33 wins at USD are the second-most in school history for a coach in his/her first two seasons. --Career record of 268-170 in 15 seasons as collegiate head coach, an average of 17.8 wins per season. --USD is 22-8 the DakotaDome under Williams. --USD teams each earned WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll awards in Williams’ first two seasons.

The Coyote coaching staff features two full-time assistants and a graduate assistant who help Head Coach Ryun Williams in all phases of running the USD women’s basketball program - from gameplanning to recruiting to travel to practice. Ryan Larsen, top right, is in his third year at USD and has more than a decade of college coaching experience. Mandy Koupal, bottom right, one of the greatest players in USD women’s basketball history and the program’s all-time leading scorer, is in her first year as a full-time assistant after spending two years as a graduate assistant. Former Coyote Maggie Youngberg, right, is in her first season as a graduate assistant coach on the USD staff.

emphasis on academics, and the efforts of the studentathletes are evident: --USD was named to Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll in both 2008-09 and 2009-10. --The USD women finished with a team GPA of 3.311 in 2008-09 and a GPA 3.381 in 2009-10. --Had 12 student-athletes earn Great West Academic All-Conference honors over past two seasons.

USD’s Athletic Academic Service’s mission is to provide student-athletes with the support necessary to reach their full academic potential. The university provides each student-athlete with a full-time Athletic Academic Advisor who coordinates the following and more for each of their assignees: Academic enhancement in the classroom Assistance with class scheduling and major selection Connections with faculty to track academic progress Arrangement of tutors and study assistance Access to supplemental instruction Monitoring of class attendance Coordination of the Coyote Athletic Study Center Academic Orientation Class Promotion of student-athlete academic success

The USD basketball teams are supported loyally by their fans (pictured below) throughout the season, including the student section known as the “Coyote Crazies,� pictured above, where students clad in red cheer on their Yotes. The fans create a great homecourt advantage for USD, which is 295138 (.582) all-time at the DakotaDome.
