USF @ San Diego Match #13 • Sun., Oct. 9 • 1:00 pm Torero Stadium San Diego, Calif.

USF Opens WCC Play With LMU and San Diego San Francisco fresh off of weekend of rest Dons use off week to give back to community GAME NOTES THIS WEEK: USF will open West Coast Conference action this week, splitting the weekend between Negoesco Stadium and Southern California. The Dons will open the eight-match conference schedule hosting Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m. before traveling to San Diego, Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. NEXT WEEK: The Dons will continue it’s road swing next week as they travel to Gonzaga, Thursday, Oct. 3 before returning to the Bay Area to face nationally-ranked Santa Clara Sunday, Oct. 16 in Santa Clara. The Broncos are currently ranked No. 14 in the national polls. LAST WEEK: The Dons had the weekend off, following an 0-2 week two weeks prior against Seattle and Washington. DONS USE TIME OFF TO GIVE BACK: On Thursday and Friday of last week, the University of San Francisco volunteered to serve free meals at Glide Memorial Church. The Glide Foundation is a highly visible and historically significant service organization in downtown San Francisco. As part of the life of the City, the program welcomed the chance to support Glide’s services. USF team values service and is committed to helping better the community that supports the team. A dozen members of the Women’s Soccer team and staff worked with the staff of Glide and other volunteers to serve over 700 meals in the course of two hours. Glide serves three meals a day to over 2,000 people. In the month of September alone, Glide has served over 59,000 meals. HALL RECORDS FIRST MULTI-GOAL GAME OF CAREER: Two weeks ago at Washington, senior Molly Hall tallied the first multi-goal match of her career. Hall struck early to give USF a 1-0 lead, netting the first goal of the afternoon at 14:31. The senior connected with a pass from freshman Jaciara Mello, before taking on the UW goalkeeper one-onone. After Washington came back to take the lead, Hall netted her second goal of the match, and season, at 63:57. The second Dons goal was unassisted as Hall nailed the ball into the top left corner from the right side. MOBERG AND KRIESER POSE OFFENSIVE THREAT: The duo of sophomore Christina Moberg and Mackenzie Krieser are an threat to opponents this year. The two currently account for 17 total points; half of the Dons’ 34 total points this season. Krieser leads the two with four goals and two assists, while Moberg is giving her a run for her money as the team leader in both categories. Moberg currently has tallied three goals and one assist. Two of Moberg’s assists and one of her goals came last weekend at home. KRIESER MAKES IMPACT IMMEDIATELY: Freshman forward Mackenzie Krieser has made an immediate impact for the Dons, starting all nine matches of her young career. The Medford, Ore. native has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, scoring four goals while adding two assists for 10 points. The 10 points marks the most for a Don in a single season, since Chelsea Hunt posted a dozen in 2006. In 2003, Shuree Hyatt posted 20 points marking the last time a newcomer led the team with double-digit points. ZABALA NAMED TO CAL ATHLETICS HOF: Maite Zabala returns to the HIlltop for her fifth season as an assistant this year, only with a new accolade and a new title. Over the summer, Zabala was named as one of the newest members of the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame. The former goalkeeper for the Bears will be enshrined into the Hall this fall. A two-time first-team All-Pac-10 performer, Zabala was an outstanding goalkeeper for the Bears from 19972000. She helped Cal to three NCAA Tournaments, including a school-record 17 wins in 2000, and finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in shutouts (26.5) and saves (277).
