CONCERTS 2021
THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN MISSISSIPPI SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Welcome back!
WELCOME! Dear School of Music Friends and Family, I am thrilled to present you with the Fall 2021 School of Music Concert Series! Since March of 2020, we have all curtailed our public outings and limited our interactions with colleagues, friends, and family. Your School of Music family couldn’t be more ready to move into the Fall of 2021 and share with you that which we treasure – live music performance. In this brochure you will find a listing of the main public music events which we will offer through December. You will see everything from solo recitals to chamber music, major ensemble events to special one-time signature events. Please browse these offerings and consider attending as many as your schedule might allow. All of the events that the School of Music produces are experiences of excellence in action. We have world-class faculty and guest performances coupled with student ensembles which are peerless throughout the country. They appear on stages throughout the world and I am proud to have them hosted on our Hattiesburg campus, their home base for projecting all that is excellent and good about our wonderful community into the world.
ABOUT THIS GUIDE We are happy to provide you a brief overview of this year’s fall events. They are part of more than 300 events that will take place this year. Events are subject to change. Please be sure to check our website at usm.edu/music and click on the “events” tab at the top right for more information and the latest updates. Please follow us on social media and stay connected to the latest news, behind-the-scenes information and special content just for you!
While these public-facing events are the most visible part of what the School of Music does, there are indispensable members of our faculty and staff who teach and support our students in their music theory, music history, music education, and a myriad of other academic offerings from which our students glean so much which is essential to their growth and preparation for life as a 21st Century musician. The work of these remarkable scholars and pedagogues is on display every time you see and hear our students perform. The School of Music family is proud to be part of this dedicated community of arts appreciators and participants. Hattiesburg is one of Mississippi’s premier arts centers. Music has been integral to our region’s artistic fabric for a very long time and I am delighted that The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music has been central to that musical contribution for, now, over 100 years and look forward to our continued work in contributing to that ongoing legacy. I hope to see you at these wonderful events throughout the Fall semester. Please make time to come and see what our students and faculty are up to. You will be amazed. Sincerely, Colin McKenzie Director | School of Music The University of Southern Mississippi
